Have seen this comment a lot when it comes to deadlift bars. In this video I discuss why I feel the Rogue Ohio Deadlift bar may not be the best actual bar, but still might be the best buy.

After having and using all three Rogue, Texas, and Kabuki I am in camp sell. Texas seems like the best for most powerlifters because it’s used in the most meets currently. Kabuki is the bougie nice to have one especially if you can get it in Nickel.

Great comparison. I had the Rogue DL bar in bare steel, but after using the Texas DL bar in cerakote I sold the Rogue and bought the Texas in OD green. Preferred the whip and the knurling.

Just got a Rogue boneyard deadlift bar in cerakote. Barely any blemishes for much cheaper. Really happy with it. It's my first deadlift bar, so I didnt realize how the same aggresive knurling as the powerbar would feel much sharper in a smaller diameter bar. Would love to see a stainless steel deadlift bar from rogue with either a stainless sleeve or the new sleeve finish that wont blemish from use as in their Rogue Ohio Bar 2.0S bar.

I know some people have been talking about it, but haven't seen any SS bars in production. I wonder if there's some fear with a softer metal like SS that it might not work so well.

Tip for anyone in Canada looking for a poor man's deadlift bar - the fitnessdepot Northern Lights Black Oxide Olympic Bar is 28 mm and 44 lbs. I have no affiliation but have used it for the past 8 years and it still holds up. It's not quite as whippy as a genuine deadlift bar but is reasonably close if you put a hexlock collar on before the 1st plate to push the plates out further from the center. It'll take 600 lbs no problem (I can't comment on anything over that but I'd be confident it could handle more). And it's currently only $130 Canadian Dollars! Highly recommend for a garage gym user.

I wonder if there is a market out there for a "spacer" system of sorts that pushes your plates further out so that you can get the feeling of a longer deadlift bar with a regular powerlifting bar. Hello Brandon. Now that you've had the Kabuki DL bar for 9 months or so do you still think that the Texas DL bar is the best one? Do you still feel a bit unstable at the top of a deadlift with the Kabuki due to whip or have you gotten used to it? If money was not an issue which deadlift bar would you recommend? I really trust your opinion and I need your help here. I just can't decide between these two. I'm not sure if the Kabuki length and distance between the plates actually becomes a hindrance if you are doing anything other than singles or PR's. Thanks buddy. Oh, and please no dithering here. I'm counting on an affirmative answer from you on this. And remember that money is not a concern here for me. Thanks Brandon. No pressure but I'm counting on you to not leave me out here in the deadlift barless wilderness. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

If one wanted to buy the bar to get the most out of, it would be the kabuki IMO. That’s not to say Texas isn’t good, but kabuki will give you the most flex (and better knurl to me). The downside of this is however the rebound may cause you to miss at the top depending on how much weight you’re using.

@@CliftaFIT Usually most people say you can't "feel" much slack on it until the 400lbs range. However some feds (like USAPL or ones that tie into IPF) only use a power bar for all 3 lifts. I never had this with the texas bar and it was very consistent for over 3 yrs of using the ohio bar. I haven't maxed out in the 1 plus month since returning to the texas bar so well see. I definitely like the knurling better on the texas bar as well. I just don't see the point of the ohio bar. I've never seen it in contests and its inferior in basically every way. Hello! I have a question. Why are there two knurl marks on the bar: 81 cm and 91 cm?
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 9 ай бұрын
There are only one knurl mark per side for power bars and deadlift bars. You'll often times find dual ring marks on olympic weightlifting or cross training bars. The inner mark is powerlifting standard, the outer mark is weightlifting standard.

I use a power bar too. Less flex. A 27mm deadlift bar will flex a lot more making the bottom part of the deadlift easier. I’d rather train harder, and if competing using the easier more flexible bar.

The answer is, it depends. If you compete in a fed that uses a DL it's nice to be able to practice with one. Usually most people can pull more on a DL bar. If you compete in a fed that uses a stiff bar, using a DL bar in training and then having to go stiff usually throws people off and they can't lift as much.

barely whips at all, not much more flex than a regular power bar, only good thing about it is the 28mm shaft diameter. I really don't recommend it, get a texas or kabuki dl bar.
