I've had this power bank for the last two years. I've been using it primarily as a backup for my mountain bike lights, which eat through their batteries in a little over 2 hours and need something to piggy back off of. It's been solid in charging my other devices, too. It hasn't let me down yet, though it can be finicky and temperamental when there are several devices attached . As you said, there are probably more efficient power banks out there now, but for raw capacity, I think this is still king - at least in its price range.

5:37 There is an always on output voltage. You need to keep holding the power up button for few seconds until a letter L appears on the display. That means the output is locked and allows to power up even low powered devices. You need to turn it off manually by holding the power button again. I bought this powerbank couple of weeks ago and I can confirm that this works as expected. Some people already mentioned this in the comments.

I remember 3 years ago now I’ve first heard about GaN chargers on kickstarter (hyperjuice 100w) and got so excited and pledge (paid on kickstarter) for them! Heard bad reviews so I removed the pledge. A few months later I heard about the Baseus 120W! Immediately pledge for them and received it 4months later. Back then there weren’t many GaN chargers on the market. When I received the 120W, I coil whine was definitely making me angry lol but I still used it daily for almost 3 years. Now I was going to get the Baseus 100W as you recommend but I felt like I wanted portability and I now don’t need more than 65W at a time (went from xp15 to macbook air m2) so I went with their new 65W “GaN pro 5” (which you haven’t reviewed yet I believe) According to the reviews, the size of the pro 5 is different from the prior models, but I don’t know about their performance, but it shouldnt be amazingly better. Anyways, story aside, I’ve looked and researched many GaN chargers these past 3 years I felt like I was crazy to be so interested in power adapters… but glad to see that I’m not alone 😅 Thank you for your videos keep it up! I’m learning new things about them and it’s super interesting.

Thanks for watching and for sharing. Also, I don’t think you are alone with that story, the marketing is confusing and no one states efficiency or features clearly enough or at all. I’ve heard of the gan5 devices but I haven’t been able to buy one yet. Mostly they improved power sharing when using multiple ports. I think the power converters are identical. When I looked at the gan3 versus gan2 65w the gan3 actually got a bit worse efficiency wise. I will have to check out if that improved for the gan5 stuff

This size covers the larger after-market extended-life laptop computer batteries and some larger batteries used in professional audio/visual equipment. I watched this and the 100w Baseus Power bank video you did. Which would you suggest for laptop charging? My use case is just to get that bit of extra life when I’m on the go cause my laptop only last 3-4hours. I’m assuming the 100w charges much faster but the trade off is less # of device recharges. Is there a big difference in device (laptop) charging between the 65w and 100w model?
@arizonawatermelon123 Жыл бұрын
From what I understand the trade off is: quicker device charge time but less # of charges OR slower device charge time but less # of charges. I’d be using the powerbank while actively using the laptop so it might make more sense to go for the 100w model.
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
The 65W power bank here is a much bigger battery versus something like the blade so in either case it will offer more charges. The blade offers 100w charging if you really need it for a quick top up, those 100W packs won't hold that power output for the a full discharge. It all comes down to the device. My laptop is 65W rated and it is perfectly happy on any port 65W or more. It won't use more than that though so any of these larger power banks work fine for some extended run time.

I've been using this charger for a couple years now. The very first one I had developed a bulge from normal use after 8 months but worked perfectly. After tearing it down I could see that one of the three cells was swollen. They sent me a replacement under their warranty and the replacement seems to be showing the exact same symptoms. The bulge is almost unnoticeable by eye. I have to out it on a flat surface to see the gaps. While they seem to keep working fine I'm concerned about two in a row showing swollen cells in under a year.

This might be a dumb question but why cannot we charge phones through 65W type-c output (or Baseus Blade's 100W type-c output)? I mean, some phones are capable of juicing 100-120W out of wall chargers. Why this is not the case for these powerbanks?
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
It is partially in the electronics and then partially in the capacity of the battery, but these larger banks can be pushed to high wattages, the Anker 737 can do 140w continuously but it comes with a price also. Phones aren't going to implement that technology reasonably for a long time though. The phones that charge at 100 or 120W use proprietary technology. It is difficult for Anker or Baseus to implement one plus's technology for charging for example. This also means the chargers from the proprietary brands don't work with other devices. 100W into a phone battery will only be for a limited amounts of time, basically it'll overheat, then drop down to sane charging speeds.

The blade is very thin. I thought the same thing when I got it but I actually find it to be pretty useful, powers my laptop, fits in my laptop bag with the laptop easily. I think these larger power banks are excessive if you are only powering a phone, but it depends on how long you need power for.
@TommyThousandFaces Жыл бұрын
I have one similar to that (the 20Ah one) and I'm not really liking it either because of inconsistencies with the PD charging negotiation with my Motorola phone. I might be using a picky device, but it's not charging as fast as it could and the reported charging values match the ones written on the original charger. But it charges my laptop at 65W so it's alright. Next one is gonna be from another brand for sure.
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the 'latest' generation of chips are working out the negotiation issues for all of these manufacturers. It seems like everyone rushed larger mutli-port power banks and power adapters onto the market and never ever thought anyone would plug in more than one thing... I want to make a distribution adapter so all these 'worse negotiation' devices don't have to go into the bin when they have years left on the life just because they don't play nice with three or four things at a time.

Hello friend, firstly let me tell you that I love your reviews. Tomorrow I'm getting my baseus 65W unit, and I thought I'd ask you how can I test it and produce a constant 65W charge (without buying any expensive fancy equipment) and measure its actually capacity to see whether I received a good unit?
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
The most accurate one is probably the Power Z (charger lab) power meter. You can plug it into a computer to log the energy transfer and power level. That is around $100. There are heaps of less expensive options, search for "USB energy meter", then you need a PD trigger board ,search for "USB PD Decoy", then some kind of "DC electronic load" that can cover the wattage you need. Note the AC-DC power supplies that come with the cheap load testers are dangerous and really bad, I usually swap that out right away. Then a good USB cable (short and low resistance). So, 4 pieces.

I have this powerbank, when plug into my laptop over usb-c its only outputting 20v 2amp. Any idea why? The laptop is capable of charging at 100w over the usb-c, as confirmed by using a 100w usb-c wall charger. For some reason the powerbank is hardcapping at 2.0 amps. The digital screen on powerbank stays pegged at 2.0amp outputting. It should be able to go up to 3.25amp though, any idea if this is a laptop fault for only 'requesting 2amp' from the powerbank in the first place, or a powerbank issue that its only outputting a max of 2.0 for some reason?
@AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
Yeah, not sure. I had no issue getting the full 65W out of the power bank on the USB C port. I could ONLY be using the USB C port though. Nothing else plugged in.

I wish Dell, HP, Lenovo would set a better example by just telling people what charging protocol their products use, even the user manuals just says use supplied charger... there are so many XPS models. @AllThingsOnePlace Жыл бұрын
The 30,000 mah packs are going to last longer when being used because they have more energy stored in them. The Blade honestly won't do 100 watts all the time anyway so really considering that the 30k mah packs are going to give the longest life for each charge. I haven't tested the Pisen so not sure how much it actually provides for an output. The Baseus I tested was an older model, but, guessing the newer version isn't that much different.
