Yeah, I didn't get a good feeling from anything they were making so I avoided them all, but yeah, there's a market for some more modular options. Yeah, a video covering instrumentation is probably not a bad idea. I've tried covering it in pieces of videos but like here, if I did, it would get skipped, so maybe dedicated pieces may do better (they'll be very low performing videos but help the people who do want to learn a little more). I am mostly pointing to voltage for modes of operation, or power consumption / power being supplied. Units change on the displays also so, it's a lot to pick up on. I've been reading instruments like this for so long I just move quickly through it.

Yeah, the Anker 240w is a heavy job, it's a decent power supply though. The 150W 747 (again 'older'), which is just out of frame in having to pick the best of is probably worth looking at. Yeah, so both Apple adapters are grounded if you use the extension cable. UGREEN has some (zero-ish ohms though), but the high wattage chargers aren't great. @@AllThingsOnePlace If it helps add to your research, another grounded multi-port charger I found was the Lenovo Go 130W G0A6130W, which uses an IEC C5 port. Not sure how "GaN" it is, and it doesn't have PPS. It seems to be out of production so I've bought one for travel, and will switch out the C5 cables as needed. The apple ones are good but 1 port is too few for a travel charger for me. Any theories on why don't the Anker ones purposefully exclude ground?

@@AllThingsOnePlace ICYWI, I ended up purchasing the Lenovo G0A6130W GAN charger, that's grounded, has 3x USB-C and 1x USB-A port, and has a total of you guessed it... 130W. It doesn't have PPS or all the voltage & current steps as some of the newer chargers, but it's grounded, and uses a IEC-C5 plug, so I'll just take a different one whenever I travel to a different country. Belkin is always an option, the Anker 737,747, or 240W have plenty of power but you'd need two, or one big one and an Ikea adapter or something. At 5 devices, you probably will end up with two chargers still for maximum efficiency. If you want to sacrifice some efficiency, ie make more heat, less lifetime of the device, the Anker 200W has 6 ports and is on sale a lot.

The 3 reasons I got the Anker 65 Watt 765 were: it can fast charge my tablet, phone and headphone simultaneously; the plugs fold; and it's the Optimus Prime Edition. Having said that, if it were just the normal version, I'd get the 100 Watt today. I just saw it on Amazon for $50, down from the normal $80. However, I have no complaints about my 65 Watt charger. It provides enough power for 25 Watt+ charging for 2 Samsung devices and my headphones all at once.

@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace Ай бұрын
65W out, and 100W available is a good size bump to keep things cooler and longer lasting. For power banks, they can suffer early failure because of overheating electronics too, most of the time that's what breaks not the battery (baring dropping or abuse conditions, charging it when it's frozen or been in the sun, those kill the battery), the Anker 250W power bank is an example, in reality no ones going to push it to 250 watts. Under a normal workload it might see 150 watts continuously, which is still a lot but it can handle that. At 250 it overheats quickly and shuts down.

Hi! I want to say that you make very important and useful videos. I have a couple of questions for you. Tell me, do big voltage ripple of chargers affect the quality of charging? I would also like to know what during charging what kills the the charge controller in smartphones and laptops? I am also interested in whether there are models of chargers from Anker that are unsafe for smartphones?
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace 18 күн бұрын
For the most part the phone can deal with the ripple, if it is very large it can create an issue (stress on components), but it has to be substantially large to create a problem, the phone just wants energy so as long as there is enough potential to create current flow it's going to function. Components fail, for example, the tiny capacitors they use fail short circuit a lot and in phones there isn't enough room to use two of them, or it's too expensive to use a high reliability part. The controllers can overheat, static can kill them, plus a lot of failure modes are possible. Of course it's an exercise in balance, you accept a failure rate and move on, because designing for no failures is impossible. Generally, batteries fail before the controller.

I want it to be as small as possible what would you recommend? I'm also open to something bigger than the anker 2343 if it is way thermally better but I do want it to be small and I'm unsure how quickly it throttles. You said the new one throttles in 30 mins but the old one you didn't do the same type of thermal testing in the old video from what I saw.
@AllThingsOnePlace
@AllThingsOnePlace 18 күн бұрын
Visually added thermal testing later on. It ran for an hour. If you need a 100 watt sustained output though I would upsize the power adapter, so at least 1.5 times preferably 2 times. Kind of like you do for PC power supplies. Total components are 500W you buy a 800W or 1000W power supply. From this video the Anker 240W is probably it. The Satechi 165W is the runner up in the group 5, but out for it's higher idle power usage which is of course more complicated than a single number metric.

yeah, it's only out for one reason, the high idle power consumption, which if you leave any apple cable plugged in is a moot point anyway, which I do... leave multiple cables plugged in. I should've presented the runners up too. It's the only real down side it had in the review, but I've kind of pushed things in the direction of following the published standards for evaluation and technically, the 165w falls outside of the idle requirement. It has a lot of positives still. Active efficiency is still class leading. The leakage current is borderline, so could cause some user issues for 240V use. It and the Anker 150W are really up there for next in line devices within that category.

With the USB negotiation, it should be perfectly okay to charge a small device from even a large charger. The charger doesn't decide how much power to supply, the device does, as long as it's not a bad actor. Example, directly connecting the battery to the USB port or something and relying on a bad USB charging cable to be the 'resistor', they exist, see USB cables video where one catches on fire. But even the cheap junk box earbuds I tore down the batteries had protection chips. I have no issues using my 165W satechi charger to charge my earbud case or my watch.
