Bash Ali was ALWAYS matched tough throughout his career. 66 wins & 14 losses at the end of his fighting days in, I believe, 2003 or 4, Bash won his last 20 matches (including the VERY minor WBF title) all back in Nigeria. More impressive to me is the fact that he was 5-5 in his first ten bouts in two years & actually fought the great veteran, Yaqui Lopez, in only his tenth fight going the distance! (Bash did defeat Lopez 8 years later in 1984 on a close split decision.) What made him fight on after that for another 20+ years fighting & challenging for the WBC, WBA, & WBO Titles is anyone's guess! By comparison, Champion Bobby Czyz seems to have gone the easy route!

Followed as much of Bobby's career as I could, he was my favorite of maybe 3 fighters. No tv in those days or at least enough to catch his fights as much as I wanted to. He was such a smart man and it made him a very good fighter and champion. Boy was he tough fighting from middleweight to heavyweight. He never ducked anyone and fought the best of his day. Bobby, I'm sure he was a star athlete in school in anything he played or did. He reminds me of J. Quarry, a good all-around athlete. Like a California athlete.
