Solo Overnighter anyone? Ive been asked numerous times about solo over night an setting up and breaking own camp videos. I cover all three here and I test out a prototype backpack I created about three years ago. I also lost that backpack three years ago under a pile of junk. Lol. Heres a link to my friends channel that made the knife / @maccaknives Enjoy the video my friends!

I always see these videos as "Spending time with my friend Dave". We get snippets of what's happening in his life, tips to make our time in the woods easier and sometimes get coffee and a bite to eat. Having to go without these virtual coffee and snacks is no real hardship so don't worry Dave. Incidentally, I don't think I can go for very long without burping, farting or picking my nose so don't worry about that either. On another topic, I've got my Red's Rings finished here so they're now officially adopted here on the east coast of the UK!

Thanks David for taking the time after work to make this video. I know how you feel. I work 12 hour shifts, I got off at 6:00 pm. and had my wife drop me off up River, for a quick over night Kayak trip. I was tried and did not feel too good. But I needed to get out. I set up camp as the sun was going down, strung up a tarp, and my hammock, made a fire with flint&Steel, and relaxed in my hammock watching the fire die-down as I fell asleep listening the the sounds of the river slow moving rapids. Made oatmeal for breakfast and then floated silently down river listening to the morning birds. Thanks again David for all you do. your a talented man with great ideas. Take care.

Dave, Thanks again for another great video. Don’t worry about doing the overnighters. Overnighters are good if you are out to prove a point about a particular topic, but out of all of the other KZbin videos that I watch that do overnighters, the knowledge transfer does not take place when it is time to hit the sack or in the morning. The knowledge is transferred when you show how to setup and build the camp/shelter and verbally describe your plans for sleeping. You do not have to actually spend the time sleeping in the shelter overnight to prove a point. It would be different if you built igloos. 😊 (Thank you Mors Kochanski) I have learned more about bushcrafting in your basement than I have learned from all of the other KZbin videos and their overnight excursions combined, even Primitive Technologies! Keep doing what you do best, Teach and Entertain!! … p.s. I enjoy the long videos!

As always, informative, excellently filmed and always honest with everything you do and say. Leaving in the bits most others would leave out, has always set you apart with your videos. We don't have the mosquitoes you do but the moorland midges can drive one mad so a bug net is essential. That little knife was beautiful to say the least, and I don't think I could try to break it on purpose either 😀. It's always good watching you make fire and coffee but in this case it was better to cut and run.... Hope you made it back in time! Many thanks as always for the time and effort you put into your videos for all of your followers 😀. Regards. Spencer!

Thanks for the video, my friend. Always still learn something new. Did not have a lot of these things back in the early 1960's when I was doing a lot of camping in a area about like that , up our small river. The wife and I use to camp in our little 14' alum. boat, while fishing for catfish or any thing biting really :-) Never had heard about bug nets, until I got drafted 2 years after we were married and then a year later when sent to Vietnam, in the infantry :-( After digging a prone to sleep in and setting up bug net, was the only time we didn't have mosquitoes buzzing in your ears. Even then you could hear them buzzing, trying to find a way in.

Apple cider vinegar will neutralize the sap from poison oak, and ivy. Or at least it does on me. I used a double ridge line on a home made tube tent, in case one came loose or broke, It actually made the tube tent seem larger. I made the tent out of a 10 ft x 10 ft. piece of heavy clear plastic, covered with camo netting. To connect the two ends of the plastic, I folded it over, stapled all the way down, and then sealed with duck tape. I still have and use that tent. My next outing will be #11( I think). Stay well!!

David ... I can identify with “tired”. I’m about to click 66, the age number and not the Route number!!!! I’m preparing to sell the family ranch, and I can tell you about tired and sore. I worked industrial construction three summers plus twelve months, so I am familiar with metal fabrication in general and industrial metal lathe work in particular. Metal work is demanding and at times just plain tough on the body. I know. That’s why getting away is so important!!!!! Shucks, I love the outdoors, but life sometimes life gets in the way. I haven’t camped, fished, hunted or traveled in decades, but with the sale of the ranch, I plan on getting back into it. I will be traveling, catching up on things rod & gun and starting my own KZbin channel. Anyways, channels like yours keep the juices flowing and the spirits high. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!!! Persevere!!!! Keep on keeping on, brother. God bless!!!!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 🤠🐩🖖

for dealing with wet cordage, or any cordage that does not want to untie, I use a Maxim sailor's tool, basically a small folding knife, that has a marlin spike ( also has a shackle key that can be useful) they only run around $10 on Amazon, right now, I have had some version of this since I was a kid, my dad taught me to use them instead of being frustrated over unruly knots.

Hi Dave, another great video. I have been doing a similar shelter for years with my (insect bar) big bug net. Great idea about two ridge lines. That gap does make it easier to get the net bug proof on top. We just got back from a week in Florida's Ocala Forest. It is finally open to bushcrafters, not just campers in the formal campgrounds. Have to say we gave the HLKC Dave Pearson knife a real workout. Makes great feather sticks. Is a beast batoning. That sharp, square back throws sparks off a ferro rod like nothing else. This is now definitely my "go to" knife, and Mora Companion is the bottom of the pack backup.

Good morning, Dave. It's good to see you again. Your location for this video is lovely. I really like your new gear. I've sometimes wondered if you ever patent any of your creations, especially things like your Shovax and these bushcraft items, stoves, and such. Have you? I''m a ReallyCuriousMonkey. Best, fastest, most effective poison ivy treatment which is never too late to apply: Equal parts (1:1:1) and mix thoroughly. Apply with fresh, clean cotton ball each time. Don't dip contaminated cotton back into mixture. Ingredients are: White vinegar Baking soda Salt We started using this recipe in 1998. A friend of mine, Richard, who is a hunter, gave it o me. I never had a reaction to poison ivy before when exposed to it until one day when I got a spider bite on the back of my knee and kept scratching it. According to my doctor, that's how the poison ivy got into my system. Over-the-counter drugs and prescription drugs were ineffective. For two weeks, the poison kept spreading and I was miserable. But Richard's recipe worked. It's been our experience that this recipe, once applied, stops the poison in its tracks and eliminates the itch as well. Continued applications heal the poison wounds completely within a few days. It's a good idea to carry this mixture in a sealed container plus a baggy full of cotton balls with you on your treks. Wash your poison ivy contaminated clothing and gear in as many gallons of white vinegar, a box of salt, and a box of baking soda as it takes to saturate the fabric. Never wash your regular clothes with contaminated clothes. I'm sure you knew that already. 😊 I hope you'll be feeling better very soon. God bless and heal you. Lots of love and big hugs, Linda Lee
@Reallybigmonkey1
@Reallybigmonkey1 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Linda and I'm glad you liked it. Nope, never patented anything. Ive learned that a patent doesn't protect you from someone stealing your ideas. Al it does is protect you AFTER you haul them into a court of law. Which is impossible if the rip offs are some overseas corporation. The only use it is if you plan on producing the product yourself which I doubt I ever will. I never heard of your poison ivy recipe but Ill certainly write it down. Thanks for watching and may God bless you too

@@Reallybigmonkey1 Hmm... I didn't know that about patents. Sad. You are very welcome for the recipe, honey. As I said, it's never too late to use it. Be sure to not use medications anymore once you start using the recipe. God's healing is in what He makes -- all natural. I go to Bing.com and look up natural remedies. I have so many videos on natural remedies. You can do a search on KZbin also for natural bug repellent or mosquito repellent, too. I hope you feel better soon, Dave. Thank you, too, for the blessing.

Hey Dave! As a general precaution I'd still boil or disinfect collected rain water simply because you don't know what bacteria or crap - as in bird crap - that it might have collected as it filtered down through the canopy. Yes, in a survival situation, rain water is reasonably safe to drink but if you can by all means purify it. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for sharing Dave. I love the pillow pack. I’m thinking about making one, but longer so I could use it as a raised sleeping platform kind of like some of your tarp hammocks from awhile back. I think if I doubled it in the pack configuration I could put the Z-rest in the section close to my back which would give it more of a frame and keep all of my gear from poking me in the back. Sewing project in my near future. Thanks again for the inspiration.

I have never liked tents they leak water, so I always use cheap common poly tarps and they work great. I just learned a new fast way to deploy a quick ridgeline with three prussic knots. The third prussic takes the place of the trucker's hitch. You just need one bowline knot at one end to run the ridgeline through and then go to your other tree and go around it one time and back through the prussic twice and pull it tight then make a security knot and your done. The other two prussic knots are for your tarp. Will will love it and it rain comes in fast this is a quick set up.
