Aikido is basically for getting out of threathening situations to protect yourself and if possible get out of the situation immediately

A lot of people who put down Aikido don't understand its based from Kenjutsu (sword fighting essentially). They're locks and throws to fight against someone with a sword if you didn't have one. Its sole purpose is for disarming / disabling an attacker instead of progressing to a (sword) fight. In that way it works great against someone with a weapon in their hands. In these moves, picture a sword being in the attackers hand, and realize the attacker's main focus is the weapon in their hand for fighting, not their actual hands. When you realize that it makes perfect sense as a martial art. It's not supposed to replace a martial art more based in striking, or typical hand to hand fighting. It's more traditional and has its roots in a time where swords were the primary weapons carried - not guns or fists. Imagine the power such a martial art had back in that time. If you were good, you denied your enemy any method of harming you, and essentially embarrassed and shamed them if they couldn't strike you. That's huge in Japanese culture.

Many thanks for this video 👍As a jiu jitsu sensei who just began Aikido I can see how many of the finishes / throws can be adapted to 'finish' the uke (attacker). For example in the last throw instead of just moving the head gently down with a circular forearm motion it could be a throat strike to disable or even kill

Looks cool and effective but will be hard to initiate in a fight that’s why I don’t really practice aikido too much and focus on grappling and shrinking martial arts more.

A lot of people it seems don't understand why aikido throws seems so "effortless" if you will, I don't do aikido myself, however I understand how it works because I train in traditional Korean martial arts that has a lot of joint locks. The reason they flip a lot of times is actually to keep their arms/wrists whatever from being broken like a chicken wing. And while aikido might not be the world's greatest striking martial art, if somebody had like a machete and was going to try to hack me to death with it, you best believe I would rather know aikido than jui jitsu or kickboxing or something
@guriguri6563
@guriguri6563 3 жыл бұрын
That would explain the motion the student has in the video (straight arm falling forwardly extended), the way he fights is the way a person with a machete would handle himself.

This is bullshido. One, no one is going to ever attack you that way, with a huge, telegraphed, slow motion overhand Karate chop. They're going to be throwing lightning fast punches and kicks and shooting takedowns. Two, that guy is literally throwing himself on the ground, hes not being flipped by your little wrist lock. I guarantee if you try that move against a strong, sturdy opponent who is RESISTING, you will not be able to throw him or make him do those ridiculous flips and rolls hes doing. This is just complete nonsense. Don't believe me? Search for videos of an Aikido Practitioner versus an MMA fighter. The Aikido guys cant get one single technique to work in the fight. Completely useless moves.

No Josh, it's not. You see, at least some of these technnique can be easily adapted for common types of attacks. If you oppose any of those techniques you can end up with something broken. Oh...so some MMA guy likes to brag and post stuff on the net and you think that's the real world. MMA is bullshit mate. You might win a few fights but when you lose...you lose big time. To be honest though, Aikido, Karate and many styles have been watered down.

@Suyamu

@@zaco-km3su Some of these techniques may have worked fine when fighting off a sword, but if you constantly train for attacks that are not likely to occur, you build muscle memory towards something you'll never need in a self defense situation. Also many of the techniques - at least as shown here - only work if your "partner" plays along. Put even a little bit of resistance into this and at the whole thing crumbles.

@@zaco-km3su "So some MMA guy likes to brag and post?" You have no idea what you're talking about. No, the video I was referring to was posted by an AIKIDO expert, not "some mma guy." He wanted to see the real world effectiveness of Aikido in a real fight. So he sparred with "some mma guy" and he couldn't get one single Aikido technique to work. See for yourself.
@zaco-km3su
@zaco-km3su 5 жыл бұрын
@@Momsspaghetti777 Why do you lose big time? Because you get something broken or might end up paralised. MMA fighters fight by the rules because that's how they've trained (unless they also do martial arts) but in real life there are no rules. Besides, if you've had an official fight your rights to self defence are more limite than those of someone that hasn't because "you're a killing machi" or something. It doesn't matter if you learn to avoid punches. You learn to avoid punches in Aikido too. You only learn to "techniques in" on people that fight by the rules. You're exposing yourself when you don't have to.
