Now we are sucking diesel, 73 years young, retired long haul truck driver. Finding this amazing FreeCAD program to use off-line, then finding MangoJelly Solutions has been an absolute GOD send to me. I spend 2 hrs a day experimenting and following all your tutorials and I love it. Every day is a school day, thank you so much. WJL.

Thank you. I really needed this lesson. I figured out that the program I used before had different order of operation and it got me confused. Great beginner lesson. Thanks.

Thanks for the new series! I went through the old one some time ago since I needed to manage the basic fast (there was a time sensitive need), and now, since I have more time, I can do the lessons more systematically and with no rush. So it is great it is now based on the newest version of Freecad. Can't wait for the next lessons. I think I will join your patrons community pretty soon.

Ah great to hear you have circled back and enjoying the new series. A bit of a different approach this one. More of a theory then practice and explaining how to go about getting something modelled as well as learning the basics. Sometimes it so hard to figure out where to start when tackling a modeling project. Thank you so much for the consideration of becoming a patreon, much appreciated.

Thank you for your the excellent series of tutorial videos. The "Constraint point on object (O) [14:24] is missing in Version: 0.22.0dev. Revision 38375 (Git) 2024/07/29 16:26:58 Window 11 build 22631

Glad your enjoying. Looking at the newer build the on object constraint and the coincident constraint has been combine together as one. I am looking to add an amendment to the videos to cover this change. Future videos will be on the latest builds. FreeCAD has gone through a UI freeze so we shouldn't see anymore button changes before the new release.

I noticed you added 5mm from the left, 5mm from the top, 5mm from the right, 5mm from the bottom for the hole placement. it would be good to understand how you could constrain it without having to manage 4 separate distance constraints? I'm sure iv seen something before where you can do some sort of = constraint or mirror constraint or something? maybe something for future videos!?

I was wondering if you could add a verbal cue for the shortcuts. Something like " Select the horizontal constraint here or L on they keyboard". Back in the dark side days when learning Photo$hop, the instructor would add in the shortcut keys. Sometimes it was a bit clumsy because most of the shortcuts had modifier keys. Mac and Windows different modifiers with the same names (alt for Mac ctrl for Windows ). Halfway through the class you were thinking the shortcuts and by the end you were using them. Note: Some of the shortcuts started with the joke "Hold down the right side of the keyboard and press...."

In v1 RC1. Constrain point on object does not appear in either the tool bar or the " Sketch / sketcher constraints" menu. Constrain coincident achieved the same result

Hey Guys, brand new to Freecad and design in general. Mine isn't showing dimensions like at 8:28? I have tried a quick google search but everthing refers me to the Draft section not the sketch section? Please help

same, also confused

What worked for me is that after I create the shape, I click the constrain distance button that looks like a diagonal red double sided arrow and then click the side to enter the value.

*** "Danger Will Robinson" *** MangoJelly - please download the latest weekly build of 0.22 of the last 4 weeks they have added a new measure caliper feature that has replaced all the measurement tools, could be a game changer especially for adding 'measurements', works well on parts but at this early stage does not work on imported pic measurements and is buggy. Suggest looking at this urgently test your tuts with this new build, may make some of your tuts going forward unusable for newbies to follow if the download the latest weekly builds. Could be wrong?

Thank you so much for the heads up, I was thinking about using the new caliper for the next video (I am about 4 ahead at the moment). Really appreciate that.

+1 on this comment. I poked around for quite a while trying to find my trusty old measurement tools! Finally, a web search revealed that the old tools have all been replaced by the new measurement calipers tool. I am currently using FreeCAD-38314. It would be great to have a tutorial on how to make basic measurements and how to place some dimensions on the model. Thanks again for all that you do! :)
