Find a blacksmith club local to you. They have live demos on a regular basis. Here in Ohio, we have Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil blacksmith club. Also there is a lot of great blacksmithing classes out there!

If you're looking for blacksmith tooling, you've got to make it to Quadstate! Every year they host it at the Miami County Fairgrounds in Troy, Ohio in September. It's the largest blacksmith gathering and tool tailgate sales in the US!

Does bending it around as opposed to hammering the bend make any difference to the piece?

Adam Pacheco not really. Jigs are for repetition.

Couldn't you angle the tongue of the jig into a "V" so that it could take a wider range of stock?
