Hook bending jig - review

Steve from Foxwood Forge Sent me this cool hook bending jig. So I thought I would give it a try and share my thoughts on this jig as I make a few S hooks.

Another option is to use 1/2 inch square welded to the angle iron. 1/2 inch drive sockets are placed on the 1/2 inch square to provide an easy swap of “dies” of different diameters using different size sockets.

I don't know why i have always been so fascinated with Blacksmithing. One of my uncles used to do it on the farm and I have been to some shows. I guess it just fascinates me because it is one of the earliest powerful metal working trades. Thank you for sharing.

Great review John! Steve is a wonderful guy! I was looking for tongs when I first started out about 4 years ago, I found his Etsy shop and realized that he is just one town over from me. I went over to his shop to pick up a few sets of tongs and Steve spent well over two hours with me, very generously sharing his time and knowledge answering a bunch of my noob questions. He showed me some neat tricks for making, shaping and finishing leaves and we made a bending tool from a single piece of stock which I also got to keep. He also introduced me to this jig and I use it regularly (and now have it in several sizes). By the way that was very nice of you to give him a shout out. I hope your viewers go check out his shop and show him some ❤ ✌

I made on of these last night. I'm new to this blacksmithing thing and it helped me make couple of hooks for my mother in law for mother's day. Good design.

I was honestly thinking about taking a piece of Plate steel and drilling rows of holes and Building stems with bearings on top or something to sit in them so I would have an adjustable jig. This seems like a much better option

That little jig is an awesome idea, it almost puts me off learning how to make hooks on the anvil 😋 I might put in a REALLY early order for my birthday, in the summer, or next Christmas! LOL 😆 Thanks for showing it, it has got me thinking about what else could be done in a vice jig 👍👍👍👍👍

You got me interested in your Portable band saw...That is a game changer....cuts faster than cut off wheel ...much clearer in my shop... I made a saw holder that best yours but don't cry... Mine is the BEST...aaI hope to send you one.... only hope it helps...and help others after you show them.

Great idea. I will make a set of these tomorrow. A small pin is nice to make the bend start sooner and pipe will work well to get an assist from the scrolling tongs if needed, plus help with a back bend.

Neat tool there. Pretty handy. I made a lil bending jig for my 1st project a couple of weeks ago, its 2 pieces of 1in welded to a 1in plate...not nearly as versatile as the one you just got. He had a better idea and I like that. Blessed days sirSir, Crawford out

Hi John, I use a jig of a different style but it does pretty much the same thing, preset jig to material, forge, wrap it around so it looks like the letter "P" quickly flip jig upright snug vise and use the built in bending fork to back bend and Voila! hook end for a fireplace tool!
