Real sailors grog was just water mixed with rum, the alcohol content was way lower then an american beer. Just enough to slightly inebriated a sailor so he could still walk the rigging but be more "brave". The ratio was something like 4:1 or 6:1.

My favorite hot toddy recipe involves a really devisive tea. I start mine out with Lapsang Souchong and add in some Irish whiskey, a lemon wheel and some honey. It's not bad.

What I grew up with as a toddy (well, what my mother drank in winter and I had a virgin version of, and which I now think of as a toddy) used spiced Martinelli’s cider as both base and sweetener (spiced with all spice, cloves, cinnamon and sometimes orange peel), with bourbon or rye as the liquor and a lemon slice.

Take the remaining vanilla husks and put them in a jar. Add something like a white rum and let sit for at least a week stirring around daily. You now have your own vanilla extract. For larger batches you can buy b grade split vanilla beans for not too much money. 10 will make a 750s worth of extract.

My hot toddy recipe is similar to your second once, but I instead use Earl Grey tea with a bit of lemon juice: + Simmer 5 oz of water, 1 Earl Grey tea bag, juice from half of a lemon, and one cinnamon stick + Transfer mix to glass (including the cinnamon stick) and mix in 3/4 oz of honey (or sweeten to your liking) + Finish with 2 oz of bourbon (I like Buffalo Trace), express a lemon peel and toss it in, and then stir Edit: I add the bourbon last as I like my alcohol and don't want any to boil off in the process.

you should do a "Hot Scotchie", which is scotch (or bourbon, I'm not judging) and some fresh, warm wort, the liquid you get from mashing the grain during the beer brewing process Tastes a bit like whole grains and is *very* sweet and sugary.

This reminds me about that one time i had a glass of watermelon juice at a restaurant. I was curious about how it would taste. It was WAYYYY too sweet. I didnt know anything about drinks at all. But i remembered that when i entered the restaurant, i saw a bowl of fruit. Mostly citrics. That gave me the same idea that you had in the video ( 1:48 ) I wasn’t able to drink more than a little sip of the drink at a time, until i asked for a lemon and added some of its juice to the drink. It didn’t make the flavor better, it was still very sweet. But at least i was able to drink some more of it now that it was more “balanced”. 2/10 Would not drink again, though. That was way too much sweetness for me.
