Danish has different variations of the German R that are way softer, whereas French has the thrilled versions that are very sharp and harsh and can sound like a scream at the beginning of the French word, and some accents of German also use the thrilled versions of this HR sound, but I recommend using the softer variations from most Danish accents, and, a good way to start practicing it is, by saying the German word anderen with H sound instead of R (andehen / and-uh-h-uhn) and then adding more and more R sound to the H sound, while maintaining the same technique, until the R takes over the H sound and the H sound becomes almost inaudible, though getting that clean R sound of the HR sound that one hears in most Danish accents (where the H sound is almost inaudible, and the R part is what one hears) can take some practice, but it shouldn’t be too complicated to get this sound right - however, the ar / er / ir / or / ur / ør are R-controlled vowels and vowel-controlled soft Rs, not regular schwa (uh) sounds, so there is still some R sound in there that’s very subtle, depending on the word, but in the word er the R sound is more pronounced and it sounds like ear with soft R nuance under the ea vowel sound, kinda like in the German word der which is pronounced dear / dea + soft R nuances in the R-controlled vowel sound and maybe sometimes pronounced deuhr with schwa sound and soft R nuance under the schwa sound, and these vowel-controlled Rs and R-controlled vowels are also used in German and in many English words in different variations, but still, the pronunciation can be slightly different, depending on the accent, not only in German and English, but also in Danish and other languages, as I have heard Danish accents with more pronounced R sounds and with e sound instead of schwa sound at the end in words ending in e, and also Danish accents that have very subtle Rs that are almost inaudible, and there might even be accents that do a normal / flat schwa without R sound, but usually I hear some R sound in those R-controlled vowels, even when very subtle, and this occurs many times even when one tries to do a flat vowel sound, because one naturally tenses the muscles involved in speaking when one has to pronounce the words, even without realizing, which create that subtle R nuance, as one is naturally going to make the sounds that one has always been imitating, since childhood, and many of those things are done subconsciously, so many times natives don’t realize that they are pronouncing certain sounds, same as speakers of Icelandic don’t usually realize that they are pronouncing a P sound in words like Keflavik (Keplavik) and not a B sound, even though most speakers think they are saying a B, but one can hear that it’s a P sound when listening to the vocal samples, so it’s like a subconscious thing!

I want to learn how to say 'redberry porridge' in danish like a fluent Danish speaker. This video will surely get me closer to that goal. In future it will be a great party trick, or at least I'll make myself laugh uncontrollably.

@@camilatavares5805 Yes, I've been thinking about that, and I thought I would just make this short lesson real quick, but there are way more sounds than letters in Danish, especially when it comes to vowels, so, atm, I'm doing my best to organise all this information...

Hej !! I've just found out your channel and I love it !! I'm from Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and I've been trying to learn danish by myself since last year, but the pronunciation is quite tricky. Currently I'm able to pronounce almost all the sounds, but my issue at the moment is the combination ''ø+r '' [ ɶ ] in the words ''Børn'' and ''Dør'' for example. Could you please explain it ? Or you could make a video about tricky sounds including that combination. Thanks in advance :)
@InDanish
@InDanish 4 жыл бұрын
In both of those words you substitute the ‘r’ with an ‘ah’. Bøan, døa. Try it! Or do you have trouble with the ‘ø’ itself?

More like the German R, which is shorter, but the French one should work too. You'll have a more noticeable accent with it, though.
