Really pleased that this video has been produced because I was going to ask if you could produce a video (or better still a series) for those of us coming to eMTBs without really having a background in regular mountain biking.

Yep, I’d say so. Even for a person who has raced a regular bike, learning how to climb an E-MTB is a learning curve, and what most people get wrong when first starting out.

I like this channel and how far it has come but EMBN and GMBN desperately need some diversity. From viewers segments, guest presenters, people they interview, those they ride with and those they interact with during events the presenters travel to (post COVID-19). It’s 2020, you say family is what e-mountain biking is all about. Well, the worlds riding bikes and the kids are watching! Let’s have some diversity guys and truly make it one big family community.

Yes, very helpful, thank you, Have a Levo on order so this was good info. Would appreciate a video geared toward senior riders as many other channels feature younger riders swooping down rocky trails on $7,000 bikes. Our group ranges from 62 to 73 and the battery boost got us back out on the trails. Very grateful for all your efforts to educate us, thank you.

Timely video; just bought my first e bike and am waiting for delivery next month. I actually started out riding roads and trails when I was a kid, with some pretty challenging jumps, then went to marathons and tours. All was well until my knees wore out, hence my first e bike. Thanks for all the tips, and I'm sure I'll be using a few of them!

Thank you for all the tips I appreciate you're video. I just bought myself a Giant Stance E+2 Power bike and I can use all the tips . This is my 1st E bike I ever bought and I'm enjoying it and it's so much fun to ride on trails and up hills. The Yamaha motor that this e-bike has is awesome with lots of power and torque.. Once again thank you for all the tips.

My Wife and I just took our first demo ride on a Specialized Turbo Levo Expert. We are all in and fully committed to riding E-MTB. I've been riding over 30 years and she has been riding about 20 years and it's the most fun either of us has had. We had so much fun riding them that the climbs we used to dread, are now fun and I loved them. I was using my brakes on the climbs that's how great it was. Now I just gotta figure out how i'm going to pay $20000 for two of them.

Thanks… lots of good tips. Could you spend more time on going downhill. I learned the hard way that my Giant ETrance (26 kg) is a lot heavier than my Specialized Epic Carbon (11 kg) and that going down the trails requires a significant amount of focus and skill to control that increased weight! Even with the bigger brake rotors slowing the Giant to a comfortable and safe pace while going downhill is difficult without the feeling of loss of control. In the meantime I’ll continue practicing and walking my bike down any trails that unnerve me - better to be safe than sorry👍

Cadence and easing off the power when changing gear are by far the best e-specific tips any beginner needs. And don't rely on turbo.

Great informative video.. I switch to a EMTB a few months ago ... and it is easy not to realise, and to change gears as you would on a standard bike. But as you rightly mentioned the torque on a ebike is the thing to take in to consideration. ..I found that keep spinning those wheels is the key and gently does it on all gear changes. Great point is be aware of what gear you need to be in (and always be prepared )

Great video. I've forwarded the link to my wife since she'll be home when my new Haibike All-Mountain 2.0 arrives. I'm stuck oversees due to air travel restrictions so she's going to be the one to break the bike in until I can get home in September. This should really help her get familiar with all of the new stuff since both our current bikes are vintage Gary Fischer Hoo Koo E Koos.

Try XX1 or XO1 cassette and you will then realize what perfect shifting will be like. Although the shifter itself is more important haha

I just bought my first E-bike! It's a fat tire bike. It's cool looking. But I didn't realize how heavy it is. 60lb. I'm old and have an internal injury which makes heavy things tuff. So I'm slowly going to put this thing on a diet. I think I can get it to 35lb maybe........ Will be an adventure!

New Subscriber... Riding in inclement weather. My bike manual says to not do so as it can cause damage to the electronics/electrical components. Any way around this bit of an inconvenience? Leave for work its nice out, come time to leave work for the day and its raining, so now what? How do you Ebike riders cope with bad weather scenarios? This is my first E-Bike so its all new to me. I've ridden bikes for years just never anything electric. Had a gas bike for a while but wasn't worth the money with all the issues it had. Another thing, what about tires? Seems the stock tires that came on my Ebike are the thinnest you could possibly find, already had a flat from a burr, and had to replace the inner tube. So, tire type & recommendations for inner tubes would be a great video too.

This was helpful. I just got my first Ebike but am a long time MTBer. As far as shifting goes, do we shift like Analog bikes? In other words, the shifting doesn't change with Ebikes?
@embn

Great to hear! Chuck us a subscribe for more helpful videos 🤝 No change in shifting, just the same as on analogue, although, in practice, lower gears especially when climbing work better as if you're constantly spinning then you're getting good drive through the motor 👍

A bit ott on riding gear, I have most of that but rarely use any of it, it all interferes with my riding experience, especially goggles and gloves, I like to feel the air in my face and see first hand not through a lens what’s in front of me, I need the dexterity of gloveless hands to use the controls and feel what’s underneath me. I do wear a helmet but only after cracking my skull one to many times but that’s the only essential thing you need in my opinion. T shirt, jeans, helmet, manky old trainers and I’m ready to rip 👍

"Might want to think about" protecting your eyes. Jeeze guys. How much time did you give eye protection? In my experience, flys and bees, never mind mud, have this alarming tendency to go for the eyes. There are few things more distracting to an intrepid cyclist than being impact stung by a bee attempting to fly into his eye. Branch tips are a similar problem. This is as important as anything else. I ride without a helmet routienly. Don't feel bad about it. But seldom go without at least sunglasses and gloves. "Firm-Grip" lightweight utility gloves without the wrist strap. Three pair for $10. This is my sage counsel.
