Personally, I don't want to run out of battery on a long ride, so on those long rides, power management is a factor. On a recent ride in Colorado I rode a little over 36 miles (just under 60K) on my Canyon Spectral: ON (900 wh battery) with 4,475 feet of climbing. I did most of the ride in Eco, but did use the Trail and Turbo modes when needed. I finished with a little less than 20% left on the battery. The E-MTB lets me range further and go faster that I otherwise could, but I still like to put in a fair amount of effort myself.

Dont know if many people actually do this and wether there is sort of name for that type of ebike riding already , but im trying to use the motor assistance on my Levo only when its really necessary. That means steep and technical climbs of course, but for riding beside that, ive noticed that even Eco often is actually kind of overkill and went to "idle" and rode my bike like a normal MTB for most of the time. The weight of the bike is actually much less of an issue than one might think, actually you barely notice the difference to a MTB after a while. I find it incredibly satisfying to ride an EMTB like an MTB , knowing that if things get really tough, or im just totally spent after a few hours, i still have the full power of the motor and a battery with plenty of charge left, at my disposal to get me up that climb or just home.

Really? My E Mt bike weighs 53+ lbs. Riding it with the motor off is not a good time. My Amish XC bike weighs 24lbs. There is a difference. So you buy an E bike, and its satisfying to not use the E. I ride my manual roadbikes 160 miles a week which is very satisfying. The E is for fun, for me.

I have a 2022 Orbea Wild with a 625wh battery and a 500wh OEM range extender, last weekend I did 1700m vertical, 66km, and I still had a 40% battery left. I agree with the comment about that riding an ebike (or any bike) has to be done without battery savings but smart.

This full power ebike is the way to go. A few of my friend got SL ebikes but they would almost always bring an 2kg external battery(range extender) which kinda defeat the SL bikes key feature as being lighter not a little bit lighter to a full power ebike.
@olik136
@olik136 9 ай бұрын
I would generally say the same- and I have a full power 750wh eMTB. But it really depends on what you use it for. I personally never do tours that take more than half of my battery and I tend to stay in the tour mode- so an SL bike would be fine for me.. but I wouldn't buy one because they are only a bit lighter while being annoyingly more expensive..

I own a Brazilian ebike, Caloi is the brand, with a Shimano motor, E6100, 504 W battery. The longest I rode was 135 km with 2300 meters of elevation. I had to pedal without power some kilometers, and arrived at home with 1 km left, meaning, no battery at all. Last weekend I did 97 km with 1680 meters of elevation, and arrived with 40 km left in the battery.

When I ride "forest" it's usually about 1700 - 2000 m of climbing on however long or short distance... I have the feeling that climbed meters are much more precise measurement for ebike than distance...

Pretty much, if your going for max distance and dont want to hit limp mode in the middle of no where, ECO mode has to be used a lot. As an experiment I did a 55 mile ride with 4K of climbing on my Canyon with 900WH battery. I barely used Trail mode at all, ECO was it. The pedals really have to be kept spinning for ECO mode to work well. I did it, and still had 3 full bars on battery meter when I got home. But man was I worked, really worked. Which makes me think I can get 80 miles out of the thing. -------------------------------------- Next week 6 of us drove the e bikes to a great trail system, and trail mode was used all day, another 4000' of climbing almost. Only 1.5 bars was used but really kept the bike moving all day. Guess who didnt make it 16 miles? The guy with the TREK small battery/small motor bike. And the thing was slow on climbs with never ending switchbacks. But its a lighter bike. And hes not in the best of shape.

I just got back from a 56k ride with 1600m elevation and 40% battery left on my Eeb, and it too was 'only' £4k. Plus, I've got 180mm travel so can send it on the downhills. You also had 155wh more than my bike has. Try a Haibike Nduro6 next time Rich, cheap and cheerful (and heavy) they may well be but give a lot of bang for the buck.

Range all depends on hills tackled and how long you can stay in ECO. I just did 43.5 miles / 70km on hilly isle if wight with my Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 625. I also suspect hard tails will go further as the efficiency will translate, although 40 miles on a hard tail won’t be for everyone (the PNW Coast dropper post with suspension is the best thing I’ve done to this bike.

Well okay, in reality it's more how much effort you put in versus the battery, which ECO mode caps on the bike end, but it's up to the human to put in more relative effort over the journey. I know it's taken my typical reference point of being at 50% battery and now I reach the same point at 73% battery after having ECO mode added to my options. Staying above the speed where the bike can provide any assist is actually the key to ultimate range ;-)

Finally... finally I am going to start my E bike mountain explorations ( in Snowdonia ). I was very interested to see how far / how long and how difficult an outing your bike was capable of doing BUT surely using the range extender just complicated the matter. I'm assuming your figures at the end included the range extender? If so, what did the standard attached 625wh battery manage? Isn't this the figure that would interest people the most? Anyway, keep up the good work. I look forward to watching more content when I know what I'm talking about.

Some guys I ride with are scared to use anything but ECO , they get back to the truck with 75% of battery left. I figure might as well use the power some if I paid for it. I already have Amish/Manual bikes I ride more than my E mt bike.

I got my 1st E bike an basic giant phantom E29+2 has a 500wh battery (70 NM) ( Have been doing loads of upgrades, to make it a lot better bike for me ) £££££££££££ left to upgrade is the forks to Rockshox or Fox / Brakes to Hope, and as not riding hard MTB routes, fit a Redshift seat post for better comfort. I road it the other day on a very basic gravel route and started out with 75% battery charge. Done about 41k and still had a couple of bars left after the ride. Mainly road in mode 2 and 3. ( Which is not a bad distance tbf ) Considering I am 89k and the bike is quite a heavy old lump ) I agree in your comment why ride an Ebike in eco all the time, as it is defeating the reason you got an Ebike in the first place ?

Hm, he has driven 44 km and 76% of the battery capacity is gone, and now the computer is telling you that 24% battery capacity is enough for 54 km - who will find the error?🤔 If I think of my eMTB with 500W/h battery, I almost always stay in eco mode (and turned off when ever possible), a little trail mode and never trurbo mode and with 1.100m of climbing my max distance I can reach is about 50 km. To have an eMTB which is capable of 120 km and 2.500m of climbing would be perfect 🥰 For now I have to use my trusty old Vertex Rocky for those kind of tours. One thing I do not like about an eMTB is the weight (and sometimes the low ground clearance), in challenging terrain 25kg is way too much, if the bike slips or breaks out, you have to be very lucky not to crash. On a normal 9kg MTB it is totally different - it was one point for me to use flat paddles on my eMTB.

What % was Rich at by the end? And how far round would Rich on his own with a hardtail make it? And.... can you do a video where you ride it sparingly and see if you can go the full distance?

Think I can reasonably get 40 miles out of my trance with the 800w battery but I’m around 115kg so if you were being careful and smaller than me I’d think 60 miles would be doable.

Rich....what is the bike weight with the extender mounted? My Luna Cycle Apollo eBike weighs 54 lbs but has 160Nm of torque and an 1100Wh Battery....it's only sketchy on step rock gardens without a visible run-out. It's great watching you wring out an eBike to it's limit!!!

I think those 160Nm motors are 1000W and therefore don't fall under the category that is shown on this channel- you would need a licence plate for it and so on.. the limit in EU/GB is mostly 250W (also no throttle and max. 25km/h)

I think it's a little bit to much battery drain.I drove with my Husqvarna AM4 LE Shimano EP8 and a 630wh battery over 44 km 1300m altitude and had 13% battery left.I Ride all with trail mode 60nm.

knowing how unreliable it can be I think I will look at my battery health and stay with a 60 % rule ! with a 60% battery life left on my trip giving me a better chance getting home under electric power .

Such videos are useless in my opinion. Nice to look at, but without meaning. It would be more beneficial to look at it physically and measure the current in different situations. There are so many factors that determine how long the battery lasts. Above all, the person determines differences of up to 300% and everyone drives differently. For example, I can easily travel 160km with 1200 meters of altitude on my bike, while others have had the battery empty after just 90km on the same route/ride. Why? Because I made better use of the gears and support levels.
