The 8 parts of grammar: Nouns: Definition: A person, place, thing, or idea Examples: Obama, field, pencil, or fear Verbs: Definition: an action or a state of being Examples: Run, jump, am, was, or were Pronouns: Definition: a word that can replace a noun (for instance instead of saying James, one might say he) Examples: Definite pronouns: Him, he, his, she, etc. Indefinite pronouns: many, few, all, everyone, nobody, etc. These address more than one thing Adjectives: Definition: a word or phrase that describes a noun Examples: Blue, slow, weird, etc. Adverbs: Definition: a word or phrase that modifies a verb, and adjective, or another adverb. Examples: quickly, beautifully, etc. Conjunctions: Definition: words that join words or groups of words Three categories: Coordinating: For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so (FANBOYS) Correlative: (ones that have multiple parts) either /or, neither/nor, both/and Subordination: Before, after, during, until, whereas Prepositions: Definition: words that show the relationship between two things (in space, time, and logic) Interjections: Definition: words used to convey emotion through some kind of exclamation Examples: Oh! English is my second language. Went to University graduated with two degrees. I am not well versed in the structure of the English language. Still learning. This is a great channel to start with the basic. I speak the language daily but i don't know why we say what we say or the structure/grammar & their definitions. This is what i wanted to know, learn the basic English Grammar so Thank you James for your lessons.

James, I think you are one of the best english teachers out there. I left school 30 yrs ago and still learning the proper way to use english correctly. It was the most complex subject out of all my classes at school. I think it has a lot to do with the way it is explained and the tone in which it is delivered. I think he has the best tone and patiences.

@@humaali4543, do you live outside of an English speaking country? If so, I would recommend that you find a pen-pal who is a native English speaker. In my opinion, immersion can be more effective than grammar. Atleast for basic daily conversation.

Im not sure who this video is for. Regardless, I'm an adult who grew up homeschooled. I was exposed to this at a very young age, did not stick with me or was not described well enough and weirdly throughout my adult life I have had to fake understanding these haha. I normally just avoided anything related and got out of it by diverting, or god forbid, sneaking away long enough to look it up on my phone. Sounds made up but I like many have lived with educational gaps like this for years. Dudes like this have been catching me up. Means a lot

I wrote essays in undergrad and in grad school with no major issues with grammar but now as an executive, I just want to be sure I am retaining stuff, and so far so good!! I remember the rules!! Awesome teaching!!

I was put in a learning disability class for stupid reasons but since I had never gotten a great english teacher because it was all about the same romeo and juliet it was never about these sort of english or subjects to learn proper grammar, vocabulary, and pronouns, thank you honestly I hope I ccn improve my sentences and the way I speak to people :) I was born in america but they've never taught me these sort of subjects.

I know that i am a bit late but thank you so much for this video. It is actually quite shocking that you don't learn the adjective order at school so as a naitive speaker i can confirm that this will shock most of the brits out there.
