I’m very new to fly fishing and my fly line does not have that marking to indicate how much line I should have out. Is there anything I can do to tell how much line I should have out

Good question. What you're trying to determine is where the "head" or thick part of the fly line is and where it transitions to the running line. This where the marker is. Check the fly line box as it should tell you the length fo the tapered head, then measure that off and use a Sharpie or other permanent marker to make that indicator on your line. If you don't have that package or info, then just follow your fly line from the start (where you attach the leader) and feel the thickness until it becomes "thin" which is the running line. Mark that spot which should help you cast and load the rod. Failing that, go to a local fly shop for help. Good luck learning to cast and fly fish!

Dude you dont need a indicator for how much line you have out, Master casting great short casts accurately. Then medium then long then longer, Using the rod the equipment, feel and time will make you better, You dont need a pre measured mark, that is marketing bull squat ! Have fun , it is all feel when you master it, turn and watch your back cast till it becomes a feeling, hauling and loading the rod is key. Remember you are casting the fly line not the fly, sounds crazy but it is true the line carries the fly, unlike spin fishing where the lure carries the line.

Im right handed and I am having huge difficulty casting when the wind is coming from my right side and the current is taking the line to my left side. I end up doing roll casts with my right arm pointing across my body so that the wind wont send the fly on my neck. any tricks for this situation ? Doing roll casts from the opposite side makes me want to cry :'(

Bring your back cast over your left shoulder , Yes left shoulder, then after rod has loaded behind you, bring the forward cast forward on your right side for presentation. What you did was defeat the wind blowing your line back into you, center if you will. When you make the forward cast you will see how effective this is. If you ever fish big rivers or Atlantic Salmon you will need this cast, way better then roll casting. I only roll cast when their is no room for a back cast.
