Thank you. I am autistic and have severe anxiety, and I find it very hard to communicate verbally sometimes. This is very useful to me because a few of my friends and my physics teacher know BSL- so now if I know it and I have a non-verbal episode, I can communicate without writing everything out.

I love your videos. I work in retail & I think BSL should be on the National Curriculum along with First Aid. Thank you so much. Today at work, the alarms went off & thanks to an amazing mum and your videos! We were both able to reassure her son that everything was ok. I didn't realise how essential BSL is till today. I don't know why it isn't taught in schools.

I am a primary teacher and find your videos really useful! We have many children that benefit from this. In reference to the comment above, this is something I've always said and feel strngly about- first aid and BSL should be part of the national curriculum! I would love to get to a confident stage of using BSL and start a school club, gradually building up to a signing choir!

I was in doing my food shopping yesterday and was in a corner part of the shop next to an employee and another male. All of sudden, the fire alarm went off. I left my basket and did the step to leave but overheard male saying to the lady still working: "come, come". When I turned around, I was him pulling her by her arm (bless him, he was just trying to help) and very confused lady touching/pointing to her ear. I step back and asked her in BSL if she was ok. She showed me again that she was deaf. I showed her that "fire". God, this was my very first time. She said "thank you" and her smile touched me. Thank you for those clips. I promise to learn more x

I've been wanting to learn sign language for a while now due to my autism (Sadly, most of the time that I go non-verbal, I either force myself to speak or just write notes because I didnt know it) but it stopped me from processing the information due to most videos not breaking it down enough, but! your videos do just that. They break it down in a way that's easy for me to understand, and easy for me to pick up on words like please and good which are the same no matter what you're signing. It makes this so much easier for me. Thank you, Dan!!

Thanks for all the good videos, keep it up! I've been learning BSL in VR for a few months now. There is a large Deaf community in VRChat, and I've made a lot of friends that I want to get better at communicating with. The signs can be a bit different due to the hand gesture limitations, but your content is still really helpful.

Hi Dan, I really appreciate your videos! My parents in law is deaf but I’m Japanese and currently living in Japan so a chance to learn BSL was very limited until I found your channel. I watched all the videos and wrote down all signs in my note! It’s only a week to go to finally see my parents in law face to face for the first time in almost 4 years so I’m really excited to use signs-- it’s a surprise that I’m learning BSL :) One thing in my mind is there are Scottish so some of sings might be different which is fun to discover! BSL is so interesting!

When I became interested in sign language many years ago, the classes then were based on SSE (Sign Supported English), following English language syntax. The basic signs as shown here are still relevant - it is how they are used in the context of BSL with its own grammatical structure and means to express something, quite different to SSE. I remain fascinated since the day so long ago passing by three people who were signing to each other in the street and felt a thrill of wonderment. Robert, UK.

It's such a shame that as with most BSL KZbin videos Dan seems to have stopped producing content. No others make weekly or even monthly content anymore, maybe its not profitable to them but at least I learnt a lot of BSL before it ended. I was making such great progress too. No one else posts BSL videos anymore these days. Thank you for your past work though Dan.

A really helpful video would be one with useful words for people with nonverbal episodes! Thank you for these videos, my husband and I just decided to take it up as a hobby, but I hope to start using it in my classroom eventually to help learners who struggle with just verbal instructions. In particular thank you for making them so slow and clear, every other video we've tried seems to sign at natural speed, but it's hard for newbies to catch up! Would love to see a few more videos about BSL grammar, we're not sure how to switch the order of words when making full sentences :)

I am just starting to learn BSL well I am hoping too. I am a volunteer for the ambulance service and I also work for a private ambulance company covering events and some really big events. And we have had a call over the radio a few times does anyone know BSL? And the answer has always been no. So I thought well it's about time that changed as when someone needs something special when there are not very well, having someone that can understand BSL am sure would help comfort them in some small way.. So it would be great if you could do a video with the Q that we would ask? Which are just very simple ones really. IE what is the problem? Are you in pain? If so were is it? And what are the symptoms the list goes on..thank you..

This was a while ago and I’m not sure if this channel will even make videos anymore but as a radiographer i second this. this is very useful, i am autistic and semiverbal and speaking less has massively reduced my anxiety, but it does leave me unable to communicate quickly and it is very inconvenient to write or pull out my text-to-speech just to say short phrases. even if people don’t understand what im signing i think they can get an idea from context. this is a very good video for teaching i think.

Hiya - hope there are plenty more videos coming! Really, really enjoying them! My request: could we please have a series where it's just someone telling an anecdote or similar in BSL, first without subtitles, and then the clip again with subtitles, and maybe some annotations for literal translation, commentary on a grammar rule revealing itself etc., all done at a slower-than-native pace, for receptive stream practice for learners?

Thank you soo much for this. I love how you do the sign language nice and slow for beginners and from different angles so it's easy to know which hand to use. Thank you.

I’m just a bit confused why you just sign See later when your saying see you later, why don’t you sign see you later? How does the person your signing know that it’s them you’ll see later, it could be anything you see later like fireworks. :) I love your videos Dan! ❤️❤️❤️

Hey, thanks for watching and great question. The V shape formed with the index and middle fingers are representative of the eyes. By holding this V shape up near my eyes and then pointing the tips of the fingers forwards, this means "see you". If you were to point your fingers directly at your eyes and then twist away to look at someone, this would usually have a more intense meaning. For example, you could use this if you were telling someone off and signing "I'm watching you!". This V shape can be used directionally and is very useful. For example, to sign look over there simply use the V shape and point to where you want them to look. It can be used to sign "watch me", you may notice that I used it at 9:04 to sign thanks for watching (me). I hope this makes sense! Thanks again :)

My sister (I call there that even though we are not related) has a hearing disability but she can speak and somewhat hear, and I understand her very well. My grandma adopted her when I was 7 and she was 9. I only learnt a few signs because we could communicate fairly enough. She married a husband from UK who cannot hear at all and now that I am a grown up I feel so horrible for never learning the sign language- I should have just asked her to teach me (it was back in 90ies). I am doing it now to show her and her family I love them. Thank you for this super nice video, it is very helpful!

I've wanted to learn BSL for a long time so I can be more inclusive to the deaf community and vice versa when communicating (and I've long been of the opinion that it should be taught in school). But as I've built up a small BSL vocabulary I've noticed that as an autistic person with an auditory processing disorder and a partner who is quite hard of hearing, I've found using sign language to be very helpful in spaces with background noise.

It's abysmal that Big Man Dan has to the job that our educational system should be doing. I wasn't taught how to use a much more universal form of communication that is also hugely beneficial for disable members of our society and those headed in that direction (slowly going deaf with no real, affordable options on how to effectively and practically learn sign language) but thank god I was taught French cause god knows I have to speak a lot of French in my day to day life 😂😂 it's abhorrent that 10 minutes on KZbin is a higher and more practical form of education than what we were all forced to do for a decade and a half. The educational system is now just a glorified system of baby sitting

I've been able to sign but very basic signs since I was a child, I grew up with deaf grandparents and other relatives, I wished I'd learned to sign better so I was able to sign a full conversation with them before they passed away. BSL is a wonderful language to learn.

Hi, I have been look at all of the website and still going to look around. I think this is so wonderful for the BSL to hearing people who can see and learn. Anyway, I am looking for any new video as I have noticed that the video are all last for one year ago. Nothing for 2021 or 2022? Thanks.
