Taper is a ear stretching object? I haven't heard that word used to describing a hair cut?

Taper means that something is diminishing, or going from long to short, wide to narrow, etc. So in the case of an ear taper, you are stretching your earlobes to fit a certain size gauge by using a metal rod that is wide at the front but narrows as it goes to the back. In hair cutting it means essentially the same thing, i.e. you cut into the hair making it go from long at a designated point to short at another. Hope this helps :)

When trimming the bottom of the hair, no it's not. I do very slightly angle down (to keep more length) once I pass the ears going towards the face. This trick helps the hair look the same length when the head is straight.
