Moist hide to assist in shedding should be in the tank as well. Usual method is small tupperware container with moist sphagnum moss or paper towel. You can also buy decorative hides that are designed for this purpose for a nicer look. :)
@JoeyFYS10 жыл бұрын
Ohhh could you possibly link me to one of these decorative moist hides? Cause I'd love to eventually make my tank look cooler! :) Got so many animals though it's expensive to keep them all looking awesome haha!

You don't need a heat lamp because they absorb heat from their belly
@DragonDude69810 жыл бұрын
Exactly I see so many people doing that
@JoeyFYS10 жыл бұрын
Is a reasonable sized heat mat on the bottom suitable? I've got one that isn't quite the same size as the tank, but would that offer a gradient for them? :)
@DragonDude69810 жыл бұрын
It should NOT cover the whole bottom only a small part zoo med has heat mats that say what they can be used for . I think leopard geckos should have like a 7 watt heat mat I forget but double check with the petstore or ask online

I already have birds to feed in the morning plus I have school. Would it be okay to feed them at around 5-6 o'clock?
@piscespet18 жыл бұрын
+Sandi Jennings They are nocturnal so it's usually a better idea to feed them in the evening; so that shouldn't be a problem.

@T4CO17769 жыл бұрын
A bit of a tip leopard geckos, like he says in the vid are nocturnal so therefor when they come out during the night there is no heat coming from above like a heat lamp does. the heat is coming from the sand that has been in the sun all day, i suggest both the heat pad and a heat lamp BUT at night make sure to turn off the lamp or put a timer on. (aka what he says in the vid)
@andiejones40405 жыл бұрын
The video is wrong they are not nocturnal. They are crepuscular.

I was wondering, how do you feed them calcium? Do you dust it on the crickets, or?...
@piscespet19 жыл бұрын
Marcel Vhante Dusting insects is usually the best way to supplement calcium. Every feeding for juveniles and every other feeding for adults. It is also a good idea to supplement with a reptile multi-vitamin once a week instead of calcium.
@Orzule7 жыл бұрын
Em BC no just buy a calcium rock, then they can just lick it when they want to, it does more work than just dusting a case of crickets
@fionashepley4786 жыл бұрын
I'd dust the insects every other feeding instead of using a rock, they could overdose on the calcium. Before you say that's impossible: it's possible to overdose on anything. Look up calcium overdose in leopard geckos, click on the website, and scroll down to calcium overdose. Too much calcium in the bloodstream can be fatal.
@oakley45186 жыл бұрын
Leave a small bowl of calcium in their enclosure and they'll lick it when they need it.

are heat mats a fire hazard? cause i have my tank on a wood drawer...
@piscespet18 жыл бұрын
+Vida Bozzi Well technically any heating device could be considered a fire hazard. If your tank is on a wood stand, it shouldn't get hot enough to ignite it but always make sure your wires are in good shape. Any time you are using heating equipment for reptiles, it's a good idea to have a smoke detector nearby. I wouldn't worry about using a heating pad on a wood drawer though.
@vidalifevita82598 жыл бұрын

@gexx97908 жыл бұрын

@marybartlett47298 жыл бұрын
You are supposed to upgrade the cage when the gecko gets bigger. After a year, to have to go from a 10 gallon to a 20 gallon, or else the gecko won't have enough space.
@piscespet18 жыл бұрын
+Mary B. The more space you can provide, the better it usually is. 10-gallon tanks are a bare minimum, we always recommend to upgrade to a larger size.

He lied geckos don't use heat lamps they only get their heat from their stomachs therefore they don't need a heatlamp but they need a heat Matt
@MrNateMCM8 жыл бұрын
Its debatable, there are many different bulbs that are used. Most out there should not be used. For example a red bulb (not entirely visible to them) are used for nocturnal purposes. A 75 watt red bulb keeps the warm side of a 10 gallon between 85-90. Even right near the surface. They tend to lay out in spots that are warmed up. Infrared bulbs (also red) are the best option. (Bulb wise) They are a more dimmed version and direct the heat to a more specific area rather than spread it thus heating the surface even more so. I have a 75 watt infrared bulb and my Leo is very active, eats daily, sheds normally etc. no signs of insufficient heat.

Heat lamps can work because they heat up the substrate but a heat mat is better.

how is a carpet or paper towel in any way natural? also mealworms are horrible for their digestive system. oh and stay away from overhead lights
@piscespet18 жыл бұрын
+Primo Supremo Reptile carpet or paper towel are generally the safest option for substrate as there is no risk of impaction. This can be especially important with juveniles. Almost all leopard geckos sold as pets are captive-bred and have likely never been on sand. It's true that the exo-skeleton of mealworms can be hard to digest, that's why they're only recommended as an occasional treat and not a staple diet.
@KILLER-ug1oj8 жыл бұрын
It's okay but try Eco earth
@andiejones40405 жыл бұрын
Repti carpet and paper towel are not ": natural" but they are SO efficient and are easy to clean. They also don't kill your gecko-like calcium sand can.
