leopard gecko care from petco view: use sand because it definently wont cause impaction use a light or uvb bulb because it totally dosent hurt your geckos eyes and always feed them pinky mice because they are definintly not considered a once a month treat for a leopard gecko and there you go thats how you care for a leopard gecko 🐊

Not to good for juveniles though, their tiny teeth are getting caught in the carpet. Paper towels are absolutely best way to go in my opinion. They are cheap and you can place a folded bit in their usual toilet spot so it easy to get rid of on daily basis without taking everything out. Found it extremely easy to keep their enclosures clean and tidy when I use paper towels and they seem to be happy on it so yeah - 100% recommended :D

The staple diet for my 3 leopard geckos are mealworms dusted with Fluker's calcium with D3. I also keep a small dish with some calcium with D3 powder in their enclosure so if they need it, they have it. I have only seen one gecko eat some once. About once a week I take the geckos out of their main enclosure and into a plastic pet carrier and i feed them the crickets in there. They are doing great and growing and their rails are starting to fatten up along with their bodies. I also use a low wattage infrared lamp to regulate the temperature since it is getting colder and my room doesn't have a heater. My lamp is set on a timer to turn on for 30 minutes at a time throughout the cold part of the night. So they warm side with heating pad says around 86-90 F and the cool side is around 70-76 F.

Is it weird that one of my leopard geckos likes to bask? I put an infrared basking lamp on one side of his cage for an experiment, and he actually will sit directly under it even though he has a heat pad and a hot hide. My other leopard gecko doesn’t do this.

Wow your gecko loves crickets! My gecko looks at crickets as friends or something, he just looks at them and follows them around? I feed him meal worms but want to feed him crickets every once in awhile, any tips? And at day I keep a window open so will the natural light bother him? and it gets cold in my house at night, what if the cool side gets to cool how would I warm it up? This is a great vid and u earned a sub!

I have a 10 gallon tank almost one year old albino bell leopard gecko named rotten. He loves his tank. I use newspaper more convenient for my lifestyle. I've heard that coconut fiber eco earth is good but hold way too much moisture for geckos. The heat I use is a heat pad and light and he does bask in the light. He also eats freeze-dried mealworms so that's a load of crap he does eat dead bugs and live.
@fionashepley478

I recommend dry eco earth. Dead insects don’t provide any stimulation and have hardly any nutrition. I’d also ditch the lamp :)

How is your gecko so aggressive with the crickets? I mean he quickly turns his head and properly strikes but when I feed mine cockroaches he usually picks them up like an egg, very gently. He rarely strikes properly but he is a healthy weight at 78g I just want to know how to make him strike if that's even possible.

About 4 Months later I decided to get another one and with my experience from my first one I kinda learned what to do and what not to do. 2 years later my 2nd gecko is still alive and healthy. Hey Mike , love ur channel and videos, just a question, my leopard ( I think ) puked. This is the second time i've woken up to what looks like crushed up cricket kinda thing. No idea what it is, some people have said it's because the crickets are too big (He's a juvenile, and i feed him medium sized crickets(when i feed him crickets, i usually hand feed mealworms)) or because its not hot enough in his cage (25-30 degrees celcius). Any tips on what I should do? Thanks

I'm at $300. And it's been $8 in crickets in 14 days. $20 a month when I add mealworms. I would have nothing as far as necessity if I spent $100. Calcium powder, and a lot of other things needed to keep them healthy. It can be fairly expensive. If done correctly.

I don't see how you guys spend so much money. I keep my geckos in exo terra vivariums that I have bought in special offer for 120 each (plus I get some additional discount with all other stuff I bought). They are 45x60x45cm vivariums and its absolutely perfect size for them. Hides are ridiculously cheap, like 6 or 8 euros I have paid for them, heating matt 30 euros and some decorations 20e and dishes maybe 15e so that's less than 200e for everything brand new and that's a one time purchase. Feeders are cheap enough for 10 euros I can get 2 packs of crickets one pack of mealworms and pack of waxworms for treats. That's like 100 crickets in two packs or even more which last me for 2 weeks on 5 geckos. 20e worth of calcium and supplements last me for 3-4 months again on 5 geckos, you can reuse your calcium powder in which you dust your crickets for 2-3 dustings so its silly money as well. So for brand new setup I'm at 180e and maybe 10e a month maximum for feeders (that's per one gecko). But also I have bought recently two second hand vivariums, one for 70e with a stand and canopy with UVB lights in mint condition 3 foot by 1,5 foot and second one for a bargain of 60e but this one is more for beardie which I don't mind. It is 4,5 foot by 2,5 foot and over 3 foot high, came with ceramic bulb and holder, basking light, few exo terra dishes, hides and decorations, some rocks, logs and large heating matt. All of that for just 60 euros so I would say with a little bit of searching you can easily go for second hand setup which would cost you under 100$. So I'm at 250$ incuding month of food and 3 months of supplements - brand new. Or 100$ with month of food and 3 months of supplements - second hand.

You really shouldn’t use a light, they can burn . You also shouldn’t use sand either, they can ingest it and get blocked up.
@MikeTytula
@MikeTytula 6 жыл бұрын
The light thing is simply not true, if given the proper habitat with adequate hiding, they will most certainly not get burned. As for the sand, with proper care, and the method in which I feed him, prevent him from ingesting much sand.

OK so question(idk if it'll get answered) we got a beauty from a lady that couldn't care for her. they had both a heating pad and light. we talked to our pet store to see if she needs both. she said yes, but does the light need to be on 24/7. her heating pad keeps that side warm. I just don't want her cold. also before we got her she shed I'm guessing, she had skin hanging from her toes. idk how long it was there. the store told us to put her in warm water to get it off or her toes could fall off. when we did this one of her toes looked really small. will she be OK? 😕

I just recently purchased a baby bearded dragon and the lady at PetSmart said if you fed adult bearded dragons meal-worms they would eat them whole and the meal-worms would dig out a whole in the stomach of your beardie....... Do you know if that's true?

My setup was relatively cheap. I live in the U.S. . 10gal tank $14, small bark hide $4, under tank heater $15, water dish $4, mealworm dish $4, tupperware hides $2, 50ct mealworms $4, calcium powder with D3 $6, leopard gecko on sale at PetsMart $20. So all less than $100. I just bought a 20 gallon tank and some upgraded supplies and 2 more on sale leopard geckos for about $160. And the leopard geckos from PetsMart were in good health and are getting some good weight on them. Super easy to care for, i just scoop up the poop once a week and feed them daily because they are juveniles. You can see them here: tinypic.com/r/263bh3t/8

Don't use sani chips, Sand, or wood chips as they can be eaten by your lizard and get impacted which will kill them. I recommend using Eco Earth as it is one of the best substrates to use because if your lizard accidentally eats it, it won't cause any problems. I use that along with tile and some rocks I got from my front yard.
