BASIC PLEIN AIR SETUP + DEMO For Beginners

Hello folks, today I’m going to show you guys how to set up an outdoor watercolor.
Also I’m going to give a demo for the painting I’m going to do. That’s why the video is really long.

Love the waterfall! Brings back good memories. Clever setup with the folding boxes. Helpful tip on wetting the back of the paper. I’m just starting to paint outdoors and it’s tricky to bring what you need without shlepping too much stuff. Thank you for this video and sharing your expertise.

I dislike the phrase 'Plein-air', it is so pretentious - it's French for 'OUTDOORS'. Which is easier to say and more understandable to an English speaker. And that is the worst painting 'outdoors' setup I have ever seen in my life. You even state it is awkward to keep from falling over. I made Gurney Easel with neodymium magnets. I can have it on my lap, mount with tripod or a clamped Magic Arm. Paper, paints and water on one board and everything holds in the exact same place, memory muscle. It allows quick and intuitive painting with everything in front of me. I can sit, I can stand. Easy to setup and take anywhere. That setup is also bad on posture too. That ain't 'plein-air', it is 'configuration de merde'.

My word! Who got your knickers in a twist? Perhaps you should take up your complaint with Plein Air magazine and all the renowned professional English -speaking plein air artists who use the term. I challenge you to put your money where your mouth is and make a video demonstrating your most excellent system you copied from Gurney and let us enjoy one of your “quick and intuitive” paintings. I will keep checking your channel for it. Incidentally , what is the French word for kindness?

@@eirenmist12 OK, it was a jest. I ain't being unkind. I am just pointing out these things, as jokey little quips. I do urban sketching in the UK, and when I do that I mostly paint outside. That may be different if I ever go to France.

@@watercolourmark Mark, I have such admiration for a 93 year old man who makes the effort to share the joy that he has in painting and thereby encourage others. He is an inspiration to me, and I am sure to many others, whatever their creative outlet may be. Sorry, but I just felt compelled to speak up because sometimes we don’t realize our attempts at humor, or jokey little quips, can be discouraging to others. Regards!
