Thankyou kind sir! I was feeling lost in life and suddenly today while cleaning my book stack, my 5th grade computer book fell upon me. There I found this chapter and thought I should give it a try.

BASIC launched thousands of IT careers - it's a classic for a reason!

I was a programmer using Basis Business Basic on the MAI Basic Four computer, a small mainframe that could support up to128 users. I coded for clients in nursing, insurance, overnight lending, distributorships and real estate management. I retired in 2001, but occasionally see posting for jobs and called BBX and BBJ Basic. I never used Basic on PCs the younger programmers I worked with did and that lead them to becoming programmers.

I do most of my Coding in Liberty basic, and have been for a few years. I still like to push it, and think out of the box and come up with unique ways to do tasks in Liberty, most of the commands are similar to Replit. but like you said each individual system has its own syntax. I started off in Apple basic in High school. "Class of 84" I also had a TI 99-4A at one time and a Basis-108 that could do a form of basic that was a Apple basic clone, and CPM I love, Sleep, dream and practically eat coding! 😍😀

Sounds like we are roughly the same generation - I started off with a Timex Sinclair 1000 (ZX81), then went to a VIC-20, and finally a Commodore 64. Good times!

@@TokyoEdTech absolutely! I'll get an Idea for a program, and work at it , and if I hit a snag, I put it aside for a while and go back to other programs that I haven't finished yet. luckily, there is an online forum for Liberty basic, so if I get really stuck, or the help file is no help at all for what I am trying to do, I can get help there.

Old school coding remember with a glint in the eye, forget the slight issues, programing then trying to load the next day from a tape, getting the volume right. (beep feee beep) . That's after negotiating with siblings for use of the TV (which normally involved money) mine to them. Ha ha ha

Hi, I have a old book (circa 1977) with some BASIC programs using MAT keyword. Could you suggest me some modern computer BASIC that still have these keywords?
