IMO the fuel consumption might decrease after remap because you run the engine in a more efficient mode after remaping. Let's say you are cruising at 100km/h in 5th gear. You want to accelerate to 120km/h. You floor it and it accelerates too slowly. So you downshift to 4th gear and move from say 2000 rpm where the SFC is 200g/KWh to 3000 rpm where the SFC increases to 240g/KWh. So you burn more fuel for the same amount of energy. But after remap you are happy with the acceleration in 5th gear, the engine runs at 200g/KWh SFC and you use less fuel for the same amount of energy. Also when you increase the full load fueling you increase the torque. Output torque is increased but the engine friction remains almost the same. Ratio of mechanical output energy to the energy loss is increased and thus efficiency is increased. This also reduces fuel consumption. This is why engines are more efficient at heavy load. Just my 0.02 $

great work. Are you thinking of making more videos like this one? Let's say something more specific, what maps to change and why explaining safety margins and how that affects engine performance etc? Would be great
