An easy to understand and important foundational video on how to measure your window correctly to determine the finished size of a Roman blind or shade, and also how to install a shade using 3 different methods. Learn how to install an inside mounted shade, a wall mounted (or outside mounted) shade without brackets, as well as a wall mounted shade using L brackets (also called angle irons).
Step by step instructions detail correct measuring technique, deductions for inside mounted shades, and how to install each type of mounting method.

You are an excellent teacher. Thank you for not having background music which tends to distract especially with measurement issues. I have several windows to address and look forward to building my own. Have you ever done inside mounts where the support install has metal? How do you address that install? I have metal slider windows so the framework is all metal.

Great video. I’m a workroom for 32 years. Have never used glue with both fabrics but sure do like that. Thanks for new tips.

If my mounting board is the same width as the window trim, is that an issue? Or should i have some projection? For outside mount blinds. PS: thank you SO much for your tutorial. I've never been brave enough to try but your videos are so clear and instructive. Amazing 😍

Aww. You’re so sweet! ❤ What if you wanted long fabric bows to hold your shade instead of a pulley? Would one do both, or would you skip the pulley and just do long Bows? Sorry if that’s confusing, as I have never done anything like that before. Also, how do you determine how much fabric one needs after they get the brackets measured (great tip btw)? Have you found fabric to be shockingly expensive, or is just me? 😮

How would I add a valence that has a drop of say 8" or so -- to hide the ends of the board & make for a tidier presentation. Outside Mount.

My windows don't have trim, just the dry wall, What is the best way to hang my shades to avoid a light gap? I have place a wainscoting trim that wraps around close 6 inches from the bottom of the window and is about 3/4 inch thick so I don't think an inside mount would work.

I have window panels that are light blocking. If I cut them to size for the shades, do I need a liner?

Thank you for this video and the one about making them! They seem very straight forward and easy to follow and I’m sure I’ll refer to them in future as there are a couple of places in my house where a Roman shade would be lovely.

Thanks so much for both videos, your methods are so clear and look very professional in finish . I can't use the table in the first bit, so it'll have to be moved when I press it. I'm wracking my brains about dragging it on and off the ironing board!

Your videos are so clear and informative. Thank you for taking the time to make them. Do you ever make roman shades with cordless mechanisms?

I made your inside mount for kitchen window, it turned about amazing. I now want to do a mount in bathroom that allows for my 2 inch blind on inside mount and Roman shade on outside mount. I have beautiful 3.5 flat white casing around window and would not want the entire casing covered or is that the way you recommend? I plan almost always to have shade pulled up, do not see it going up and down rarely. Also is the best looking mount in your opinion, just above window frame vs typical curtain rod is measured half way between wall to window.

When figuring the “stack” measurement of the shade when pulled up, do you figure the distance between the rings plus (how much more) to clear the window opening when raised? I want to clear most of the opening on a door, rather than have it blocking the view when raised up. Also, do you ever add corner flaps to hide the board on an outside mount? Could you show your way of fabricating that? Love your clear & precise way of explaining work as you go!
