Basic Survival Training - Easy DIY Basket Weaving

I'm making a primitive basket using birch branches only. It is a fun project and skill that might come in handy in the future. The build took me approximately 3,5 hours and I'm very happy with the result. If you have any questions about the build feel free to ask me in the comment section below.

Fantastic video. Birch is not a common resource in my area but I have used willow before and it also a great resource as it has many of the same characteristics as birch. Very flexible when it’s green wood. Great job brother and as always we will be awaiting the next video for more bushcraft badassery!

Thank you brother! I see, well I've heard that works great as well. Next one is going to be a new shelter build, my version of a "log hut" winter shelter. I was out monday to sunday just hauling wood and started the build. The tipi is down now and I'm very happy with the new shelter this far. 👌👍

It’s all about getting the financials in sync to do that but I’m working hard at it. Trying to get Scott to come along but I know it’s tougher for him because he has little ones at home.

I understand. The transportation cost will most likely be the most of the cost, when you are here we'll make sure to not spend any substantial amounts. Either you crash at my place or in an apartment pretty close by for $20 /night, it takes up to 3-4 persons if you manage to get Scott here It's $10 for each person, and my guess would be that we spend most of the time in the woods anyway 😁👍. It would be awesome to have you!

Good basket making Adam. I made a stress plate last year from Birch on a bush-craft course. Really enjoyable. Sorry, I read what you'd written after I'd replied, so I've now edited it . Thanks for the video.

Thank you Matthew! What is a stress plate? Tried google it but without result 😅.

I guess it's a bushcraft plate that's only held together by the stress of the wood (not tied) the weave of the wood keeps it together. It's the same as the bottom of a basket but without the sides. The Instructor told me it was called a stress plate.

Hi Adam, really enjoy your videos. In another life I had a basket making business just myself and a partner. I love your birch twig basket! Very nice. I live in northern New England in the states in a very similar biome as you. Would you please identify the mushrooms you are gathering? I am slowly and carefully teaching myself to identify wild edible mushrooms. Looking forward to more of your videos.

Hello Rita, thank you so much. Okay, cool, I would love to see some of your baskets. Sure, we picked Chanterelle, Funnel chanterelle and hedgehog mushrooms. Hedgehog mushroom is the bigger white one with "spikes" underneath, chanterelle is the yellow one and funnel chanterelle is the one with a dark yellow stem and brown top/cap. If you google them you will see pictures that show you how they look better than what i can explain in text 😊.

@@TSMAdventures Thank you...watching them gathered from their source is especially helpful. So far, I am comfortable eating the common puffball and Birch Bolete. This past spring for the first time ever Morels grew in our yard. Thank you for your help.

@@ritarogers3974 No problem, that is true 👍 Okay great, that's a good start. Birch bolete is common here as well. I've never picked common puffball or morels but to be honest, Robin is the mushroom guy. He got his knowledge past down from his mother. 😁 But we do pick a lot of different mushrooms when we are out, and I know most of the common species by now.
