I've never not cried at the Mount Doom scene from LOTR. There's so much going for it: the music, the pain, determination, and tears in Sam's eyes, his best friend helpless on his back, the world and all their friend's lives at stake as Aragorn's suicide distraction army charges Mordor. And then fucking Sam, a nobody gardner from the Shire, summons the ultimate Nakama powerup and indirectly causes the destruction of the second most powerful dark power in the LOTR universe. I've shed 4 tears since I started writing this. I fucking love that scene.

Also bear in mind: the books show that hobbits are soft creatures who love comfort, safety, food, and tidyness above all else. In that scene, Sam has just walked halfway across the world, been through countless battles with dark terrors, lived for (weeks/months?) In a country where everything wants to kill him, food and water is extremely scarce and always disgusting, disguised as a filthy, smelly monster, with his best friend who grows increasingly hurtful and paranoid towards him towards the end of their journey, weighed down by that emotional burden and the scars left on his soul by carrying the ring. It's insane.

Karl, if you enjoy moments where heroes are pushed to an exceed their limitations, you have got to see the arc in Fist if the North Star where Kenshiro fights and has his ass utterly handed to him by Souther. It's the kind of biblical ass-whupping where by all rights Kenshiro would have been killed, but Souther makes the mistake of not making sure Ken was dead. Ken's inert body is spirited away by a local rebel, allowing him time in which to regenerate and recharge, and the comeback fight is fucking EPIC. Oh, and Souther channels the enrgy of a Phoenix, so take that into account when factoring in his superhuman martial skills.
