AKMU are known as 'digimons' (digital monsters). which means, no matter who is in the charts, including the most popular kpop groups (BTS, EXO, BLACKPINK, TWICE, Red Velvet) they will always chart no.1. Other artists in the same category (digimon) are people like IU and Taeyeon or other duos like Bol4

AKMU has done a lot different genres because the brother works on a lot of their music and likes to experiment. I think more than just ballads or emotional songs, they're known for really well-written lyrics that often have an underlying message, e.g. their song Melted is a commentary on loss of childhood innocence & how adults can be cruel/cold.

AKMU's my favourite group. Their songs are not as "dope" or "hype" as other k-pop sound, but I keep going back to their songs and I think it's because the older brother writes his own music (both composing and writing lyrics) and he has his own instrumentation style with lots of acoustic sound. If you know Korean, the lyrics are very poetic as well.
