Not causing my horses any discomfort is important to me so I hope you like this method and even try it on your own horse. Like everything, the more you practice the better you get and the better your result. Thank you for watching 🙂

I had to look up mane pulling to see what you were talking about and you’re right! That does look painful! Thanks for sharing this!

It’s only done for our benefit Riece not the horses so we really need to stop doing it the “old fashioned” way. As they say when you know better you do better. I couldn’t bring myself to do it that way so had to find a painless way.

Horses groom eachother by chewing on eachother's neck/manes. But they don't pull hairs out!

To prevent mane rubbing, I recommend using a cotton neck rug or combo from Sunset Rugs (100% Aus made & owned) called the 'Showstopper'. They have a pleated mane section which completely eleviates rubbing. I have the rug version which has pleated shoulders and it works wonders, especially when my horses are clipped 👌🏻

a horse can feel a horse fly land on their butt and back but you're telling me they don't feel a thing when you yank their mane out? Yeah right! This looks like a way better way to manage their manes thank you!

Hi thank you so much for sharing this informational video, I did go to the links for the thinning tool on Amazon but they said it can’t be shipped to me in the U.S., and the other stuff as well, also, do I buy a medium blade ? Coarse ? Thanks so much If you can help me find the right tools to try this your way, my horses manes are so unruly and they hate them being pulled I’m so excited to try your way 😊

thankyou for your tips this thas really helped me because my mare hates her mane being pulled i was warned 2 years ago when i first bought her and i bought myself the tools you have shown and im going to give it a go as my mare and her field friend grooms each others mane and 3/4 the was down a good 8 inches is nippled short xx as my old horse we sadly lost at 23 years old had sweetich i never noticed what the over muteral groomiing did but now i have one without sweetitch its hard ro make the mane tidy and i would think over the winter wearing rugs would give it time to grow and the moment the rugs come of so does there manes any tips on stopping them chewing and grooming the mane of 3/4 the way down the neck as i dont want to hog it (ive never hoged before) as her mane is beautiful and thick xx

I worked as a groom for a private farmer and he used to pull his horse's main to thin it out. I thought it was painful, but he told me that horses don't have nerve endings in that part of their neck so pulling main doesn't hurt. Is it not true?
@BasicHorseTraining3 жыл бұрын
To be honest with you I believe that is a wives tale people make up to allow themselves to feel better for doing something that is uncomfortable for the horse. Most horses I know hate having it pulled so no one can tell me they don’t feel it. I haven’t seen any scientific proof to support no nerve endings but I’ve seen plenty of horses that hate it. Just my thoughts.

My horse has a huge cowlick and half his mane angles up towards his face😳 Someone told me to try flat ironing his cowlick before I trim his mane. That cowlick makes everything uneven😂

Josie , dumb question but why do people have to pull ? Why don't people just use scissors to trim a mane ??
@BasicHorseTraining3 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question at all! I don’t really know the answer to that except to say that the “pulling” bit will thin the thick mane out which makes it easier to plait. I just use thinning scissors ✂️.

When you don’t really pull the mane the professional braiders have a fit.
