This video will show you how to use the glider's engine and get some extra flight time when needed.

Don't forget to open the Air Flow to cool the motor, it is to the right, just in front of the water ballast lever, you pull it out, specially on hot days :)

Yes, that is important. Especially on the higher power settings.

Really helpful. Thank you. I tried to get the moter to run, but the answer is the BIG RED guarded switch!

fyi the airspeed is in kilometers per hour in this glider. Also thank you!

There's probably a few things you missed to mention, one of which being essential especially why people are even asking for this in the first place. The engine only works with airflow - the prop has to windmill, otherwise you can't start it, so it doesn't work when you're still sitting on the ground. To be fair, this is a little weird given it being an all electric engine. I've tried to read up a little on this and found out that the windmilling requirement definately is a thing for aux engines on gliders that are still little piston powered ones because those don't have starters installed for weight reasons. The only possible reason I could imagine being the thing on AC power, so it needs to get the proper rotation direction through windmilling first. The next thing being the engine temp, you mentioned it, but didn't explain what to do other than turning the engine back off or into a lower power state. On the right side, next to where your knee would be, there's a pull handle that you have to pull back to open the air vents that provide air flow to the engine and the battery for cooling. It's possible to leave that closed if you stay at a low power level like 5kW though, which is enough for stretching the endurance quite a bit with a play time of about an hour. With catching some thermals or updrafts, it's even possible to gain a good amount of altitude that way and extend the flight a lot. Speaking of play time: I bought the Discus 2c FES on the store when there was the Got Friends sale a few weeks ago. In that module you can see the play time displayed go down over time and the batteries symbols left of it all being lit in the beginning, going out one after the other, basically displaying your battery state. This is completely missing in the DG-1001e neo still. You can't read how much juice you have left and the estimated play time stays there as if there was unlimited battery - which I honestly haven't tried to attempt to run dry yet. It's basically like having a dead fuel gauge... not the greatest thing to have. I hope they'll change that accordingly to have it fixed and functional. Also, mentioning the Discus, on that module it's possible to start the FES on the ground, no windmilling required. Just sayin'... (which is one of the reasons I think Asobo might have done it not right here; but to be fair, either team could be wrong) Also, to turn off the warning, right click the "throttle" knob (still have to figure out how to do that in VR with the controller, still using the mouse for just that and turning up the variometer volume a bit which doesn't seem to work with the controller either for some reason) PS: The fonts on that display look weirdly large and a bit dislocated, but I guess you have some kind of mod running to make those more readable, probably for VR.

I have no MODs and was not in VR when I filmed this. The engine is not designed for take off. Its designed to help extend range between up drafts.

Haven't flown this one, but that doesn't sound very realistic... FES sustainers can't physically windmill, as the propeller folds up along the nose when not powered. Conventional sustainers indeed have to be windmilled to start, because they have no starter, but those are never in the nose, but rather fold out behind the pilot. So it does sound like they screwed up on this one.

@@Rickenbacker69 either way, the prop is not intended to be used for launch so it will not work on the ground.
@Rickenbacker69
@Rickenbacker69 Жыл бұрын
@@CRgamingMSFS I mean, you CAN use it to launch, if you have a long, hard runway. But it's not very far off the ground, which is why the manufacturer doesn't allow it. Except on the LAK-17C, which can self launch with FES. One of these days I'll own one. :)

Danke mein Freund. Ich sehe allerdings nicht, wo Du die Drehzahl des Propellers erhöht oder verringert hast. Bei mit klappt das überhaupt nicht.Offenbar nicht an dem Drehknopf. Womit dann?

do just what you show and the alarm comes up about power switch not being on also get temp 51c battery and motor alarm sometimes and have not even flown the glider yet. Also there is no Ridge settings or thermal settings in weather anymore where did they go

Variometer is turned down (not off) for ground towed launches. Hover the mouse to the top-left knob of the LX9070 (centre instrument with the moving map) and use the scroll wheel to turn up the volume - can't remember which way!

Fun fact: throttles on airplanes don't change fight speed, they change elevation. Attitude changes speed.
@CRgamingMSFS
@CRgamingMSFS Жыл бұрын
Technically that's how your supposed to look at it, but its all connected. If you keep a level altitude speed goes up when you increase throttle. More accurately pitch changes speed. you can got he same speed at an altitude of 20 feet and 300 feet.

You don't climb a glider at 130 knots!!! More like 60 knots. I think you are looking at KMPs rather than knots on the guage.
@CRgamingMSFS
@CRgamingMSFS Жыл бұрын
I was going by what the training said for a winch launch in MSFS. I did not notice the planes airspeed is in km/h not knots, so its actually 90-130 km/h. That's about 70 knots. You do want to keep it at 90-130 on the gauge in the plane. So yes, I misspoke in the video calling it knots instead of KM/h.
@Rickenbacker69

Wouldn't climb at 130 kph either, most climb at 95-110 kph. Maybe electric motors need more speed? I've only flown gas guzzlers.
