I run through the glider training missions to see what they say, then try to set up a glider flight in free flight (but the lag on 40th anniversary release day proved too formidable during the actual flight).

I had trouble with the trimming too. I could get a steady 167kmh but it refused to give me the green.

I really enjoyed this! I like the "go around"-you get one try in a glider. I love almost hitting the winch truck! I am a glider pilot so this was interesting. Actually I find flying the glider simulator is harder than flying a real glider. I practice on Condor and got the MSFS to practice cross country gliding since you can go to actual locations.

Forward slips are a technique used to increase drag and descent rate beyond what can be attained with just full spoilers by deliberately uncoordinating the aircraft. The lesson was trying to get you to practice losing altitude without using spoilers and without diving for the aim point.

26:40 Just do full right rudder and full left on the stick(well, maybe 80% if you want to be safe). You should face where you're going

Tried this but there is no person holding the wing and no amount of rudder snapping will get the tow plane to move!

having learned to fly gliders in germany in the 80's i have to say i got a chuckle out of your trying to figure this out but i can see microsoft has a way to go before this really can compete with condor.

Sometimes when there's a new update, as was the case here, the sim has hiccups and needs a few runs to settle down. It's not my computer in this case.

glider implementation is really bad right now. apart from an ok plane model all the rest is really questionable: plane handling during tow and during flight, thermal implementation, yaw string movement (lol)...

Well, I'm not experienced enough to judge. Hopefully, it will improve to the satisfaction of glider veterans (or at least somewhat) so that I can learn things properly.

Hi. Have you tried the Gotfriends Discus 2? There's a freeware and payware version. Seems more developed but yeah, everything is wild on tow. Thermals and ridge soaring are far too rough as well, compared to real life.

I've tried that as a freeware and also a freeware DG-808. I had done a video with Kinetic Assistant - I should see if that still works in this version and if there's any difference between it and the stock implementation.

These gliders are a failure!! They fall from above, turn sideways and plummet down... No chance to fly. You can only fly on the tutorial contained in the MSFS itself ... These gliders are a joke. As always, no more screaming about nothing.

you can fly higher and usually for longer in a glider compared to a powered aircraft

Gliding 4+ hrs out and return across the Italian alps on my 2nd or 3rd go at this game was no problem, personally...

In a turn you always have to aim at the outside wing end of the tow plane, not at the fuselage . You also must not fly inside the turn because the glider has a better aerodynamics than the towplane and in RL is a matter of a seco fo or two and you are yust behind the plane. Of course in the sim the effect of the cord tensing and releasing is not replicated like in real life...
