I would say meditate to experience god and dont worry about belief. NO one ever needs to believe in sight, they see and they know.. Watch our videos on Sikhism and Science in the Athiesm playlist "God is great"

Sat Sri Akaal, Please watch our video on "Chanting the Vaheguru Gurmantra". There are lots of mantras in Sikhi, its all about the quality not quantity, so not prescribed. the best time is pre-dawn so probably aiming for around 45mins to 1 hour of naam jap and then 1 hour of prayers is standard. When you calls are heard and you get blessed, its all grace! Some epople do use beads (malas) or use their breath, or just time. We can also sing Gurbani as it gives amrit too.

I have never heard of "share before consuming." This feels similar to tithing or donating/charity yet much more clarified... Really relevant to our current consumerism based society...!! ♡♡♡

Sat Sri Akaal! Does Naam jap consist of a repetitious mantra, like the Maha Mantra of the Vaishnavas? If so, is it said a specified number of times a day (and possibly counted on beads) like a Vaishnava, or does a Sikhi have "free reign" so to speak?

The word HINDU is derived from the two sanskrit words Hinsa (Evil/Violence) Dhushnam (End/Destroy ) hence destroyer of evil The word sikh is derived from the sanskrit word Shish (student) hence sikh is a student

veer ji, what about someone, like me, who doesn't believe in a God. Someone who is a follower of scientific (as he notices that science works by providing evidence and facts) while religion gives claims which are supported by the same claims. That is circular logic, which is a logical fallacy. But, I do try to be the best person that I can be. I don't hurt anyone. I am nice to everyone. So, what would you say to some1 like me who doesn't believe in any God?

You are right. It is very hard to come out of philosophy which we have been brainwashed since our childhood. It is very hard for people to believe that there is a possibility that there is no god and that we evolved through a natural process and will die just like every other species. We think we humans are special and therefore God only judges our actions.

@@gill200s but if we think about it there is no harm in following your religion and believing in god. We can think of both situation. Let's say you pray, and god exists, and your prayers succeed then that's lottery and you won and you won't have to rot in hell or get into reincarnation cycle. Let's say you don't pray because you think god do not exists, but god exists, then you are pretty much doomed. Most religious people would spend 1 hour of their day for religion. It is something not that much and anyone can take 1 hour off their life. We can watch netflix or instagram for 3-4 hours per day or use phone. Praying for 1 hour won't hurt anybody. So Praying and believing in god is low risk very high reward whereas not praying and not believing in god is extremely very high risk and very low reward.

Most people think that Sikhi is all about god, but very rarely do we ask ourselves: “What is God?”. What is that image that comes to your mind? What does God look like to you? Most of the time, the image that comes into our minds, whether we can help it or not, is a father figure with a white beard, sitting in the clouds (I like to refer to him as Mr. God). You may hear your parents tell you to “believe” in this Mr. God or “dedicate your life” to Mr. God. Is this the God our Guru tells us to believe in? No, our Guru didn’t believe in God, he knew God. There's a fundemental difference between believing and knowing. If someone told you to believe in God, it will always seem so far away; it will remain as an idea; God will always remain far away. Guru Nanak (our first Guru) did not come to say, ‘you have your own ideas of what god is and now I have my own idea of what God is’ - Guru Nanak didn’t come to give another idea, he came to show you and experience what this God is. So, what is this God Guru Nanak is talking about? Is it the same as the one most people talk about: An old guy sitting in the clouds? Is that what we are talking about? In the Guru Granth Sahib Ji (Gurus written wisdom), it starts with a very clear definition of God: ੴ (Ik Oangkaar), before explaining what Oangkaar is let’s discuss Ik. ੧ is a number, it is the number One: Every bit of wisdom of the Guru’s and everything in this universe can be summarised so beautifully and so intelligently in one Single Digit. The rest of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji is an explanation of this One to help us understand what this Oneness is. Everything in the whole entire creation of the universe is one thing, but you ask: “Everything looks different, everything is different”, but there is only ੧, One but in many different forms. This Oneness that has manifested itself into many different things: (ੴ: One manifested itself into a physical form - Oangkaar, Oang = Vibration, AUM = Creator, Sustainer, Destroyer; Kaar = Creation). Let’s call this ੧/Oneness God for now, the people you may be sitting next to is part of that ੧ - that person is God. The person sitting opposite you is God, the people outside are God and the person inside You is God. Everything is that oneness and when we start to understand and realise that everything is part of that ੧, we understand that God is not up there in the clouds. The Guru is here to take you on this path of realisation of who You actually are: Oneness. He’s asking if you’re willing to change the way your mind perceives the universe - Guru Nanak isn’t asking you to believe (There are no beliefs in Sikhi), Guru Nanak is having a conversation with your mind. Why is he talking to our mind? It’s because our mind keeps rejecting this fundamental concept that everything (including you) is part of the Oneness. Why does our mind keep rejecting this concept? Because it believes it is in control and believes it is separate from that Oneness and it makes us think we are an individual. Let me give you an analogy: you are like a droplet of water trying to return back to the ocean and this droplet/you are lost trying to find your way back and merge with the ocean. This analogy is incorrect, because the drop of water has never left the ocean; you are already part of that ocean, but you just haven’t realised. Within that droplet is the entire ocean, within the ocean are all the droplets; so within you is the entire universe and the universe is you. The Guru asks you to surrender this individualistic thinking, he asks you to surrender that thing you call i, me . ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਪਾਈਐ Surrender body, mind, wealth and everything to the Guru; obey the Order of His Will, and you will find him. Then you will realise that you are not an individual but you are part of everything and everything is part of you. You need to be willing to change the way your mind thinks and then you will realise that God was already here - within you and without you. Let me give you another analogy: Imagine going to a beach and you look out at the waves rising above the ocean. How long does a wave last? A couple seconds. Do you ever look at the wave and say that that wave is different from the ocean? No, we say that they are the waves of the ocean, so why do we say that we are different from god; we are of God. When a wave comes up, it doesn’t say: “Where’s the ocean?”. We are born and we say: “Where’s God?”. The wave doesn’t understand that it is the ocean and the human doesn’t understand that it is God. Life is God, God is life; Is there life? Yes. Is there life in you? Yes. Is there life in others? Yes. Is life everywhere? Yes. Where is life? In you, me and everyone. The universe is God, God is the universe; Is the universe here? Yes. Is the universe in you? Yes. Is the universe in others? Yes. Where is the universe? In you, me and everyone. This means you are the same as everything else. Am I not unique? Am I not an individual? No, you’re not - that’s called Haumai; hau = I, Mai = me. “I Am”, Guru Nanak says that’s what you have to drop if you want to know what this God is. Get rid of yourself, there is no "I Am" to find God. As long as i exists, that Oneness will never be a reality for you. "When I was, then You were not; now that You are, I am not." When I Am disappears, all that is left is God. The path of Sikhi isn’t to find God, the path of Sikhi is to delete yourself and all there’s left is God. ਜਉ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਖੇਲਣ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ If you desire to play this game of love with Me, ਸਿਰੁ ਧਰਿ ਤਲੀ ਗਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਉ ॥ Then step onto My Path with your head in hand. The "head" represents the Ego: I, Am.
