What Hoya arrived in the worst condition to you? 👀
@Osminoqtos2 жыл бұрын
Hoya sp north Vietnam. From the Netherlands. I think its a Hoya bonii, but not sure. Have to see the flowers . It took 3 Weeks of shipping from the Netherlands to Austria. It had mealybugs instead of roots and the stem was covered in broad mites. But I was able to safe this plant. Its easy going and happy now. 🙂🙃🌱

I love your videos…especially when they are longer. ❤It’s a vibe and so informative. I love Hoyas sold a lot,because umm I had a problem lol. Over 105 mostly rare that were imported….not including my other plants. Some died when my dad passed. I think it was my mental health and they missed the intense care they were used to getting.I’m happy to watch your process and I’m going to start collecting and preservation again.

Thank you so much for these videos. Whenever I'm having trouble getting myself moving to do plant chores, I'll put your videos on and they help me get in the zone. (The zone of wanting more hoyas...) I repotted 5 hoyas, trellised 2, and generally did a big root census and leaf cleaning, so everybody in my personal jungle is much happier thanks to you! Glad these plants that had a rough time in shipping have recovered well, and I appreciate the tips!

I appreciate all of this wonderful information you give on Hoyas. I would love to know which ones like lower light and which ones like hotter temps if you are looking for a future video idea. I can’t figure out why my fuzzy back Australis is loosing leaves. I don’t see any pests on it and I treated it with a fungicide in case it’s that. I put it outside on my patio now to see if it likes it better in the high humidity. I’m in Florida. Anyway, thanks so much for any and all info. Gorgeous hair. 😍 💚🌱💚

Those are great video ideas :) I have been thinking of making those videos, but I wasn't sure anyone was interested :D I didn't have lack with australis ssp. australis (australis with pubescent/ fuzzy leaves) - mine never wanted to grow. A lot of people say they also go through a dry, dormant season, so maybe now is the time to reduce watering? But I am not sure.

my patella white also took a long time after being potted but now it started growing . it defintely takes a little bit longer than the pink version. Mine grows in organic mix and actually dries out in between waterings. I am surprised that you put the used pon into a fresh container of pon. Since my root mealy breakout I would never do that again. Learned my lesson
@BasiePlants2 жыл бұрын
I hope it starts to grow soon! It is time. 😂 All my hoyas are inside, and I haven't purchased any new hoyas that I didn't root myself in the past year or so, so the chances of root mealybugs are very slim and I would have seen some signs - yellowing/ dehydrated leaves and obviously see them on the roots :D I have had a wild experience with root mealybugs last year too, so I feel you :/ That is why I avoid ordering any imported and rooted hoyas from Thailand. My friend recently bought some and still, they are full of root mealybugs in that coconut husk. So I avoid those like the plague, even if the price is good. 😂 Just cuttings from trusted collectors.

I had the same problem with my white patella! it was stagnant for almost 8 months and had a good root system. I applied orchid keiki paste (Cytokinin) to one node as an experiment and moved the entire plant to a self watering pot (in pon), one and a half weeks later it pushed out new growths from almost every single node, except the one where the paste was applied. So it might just want the pon to be constantly moist - not sure if the paste really did anything :)
@BasiePlants2 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I heard white patella can be a bit more tricky! I don't have any keiki paste at the moment but I could put her in a small selfwatering pot. Thanks! :)

Fantastic Video, thank you. I noticed a lot of your plants are in what looks to me a pon, is that correct? Then you have them inserted inside another container which has a water reservoir in the bottom. Are you doing this with all your plants now or do some of them get eventually transferred into an orchid bark mixture? I am on a quest for the perfect potting medium. Much like looking for the Holy Grail, it seems to be an endless journey (but it does take me and my plants to some interesting locations!). Again, thank you for the videos, I look forward to seeing each as it comes out and because of you, I have learned a lot. My plants asked me to thank you.
@BasiePlants2 жыл бұрын
Not all are in that setup since selfwatering pots are hard to find here :) Some hoyas are in pon, with a wick, and then there is a cover pot with a reservoir. Then some are in nusrsery pots, with no wick and in cover pots that have a very small reserovir but I really don't use it, it is mainly so the water doesn't spill everywhere, I can't really rely it to be self watering :) As for the mixes, some love pon, some prefer coco peat and perlite :) I don't think there is just one mix, I think at least two are necessary :) But of course, it depends what hoyas you are growing :)

I feel like my hoyas are constantly struggling. I started using predatory mites to help with the flat mites (false spider mites) and some hoyas have started to grow, but I still have some that are just slow or not doing anything. I tell myself that as long as they are not dying, we are good. I feel like I am constantly learning new things and trying to figure out what each hoya wants. Hopefully someday I will have tons of big beautiful hoyas. But for now, I am happy with any growth and ecstatic when I get blooms 💚 Happy Planting!
@BasiePlants2 жыл бұрын
Some do grow slower than others :) But it could take a moment for the predatory mites to start working :) I would make sure the roots are good, there are no mites (or that you have intrduced predatory mites) and that they have good light, heat and humidity :) I am sure you can get them to grow! (except for several cursed ones. I am looking at you Hoya lambii! 😢)
