7:12 I saw someone mention that unlike Sunny, Basil's Something doesn't disappear. It goes back inside of him. I don't think Basil fully forgave himself unlike Sunny. Sunny went through this whole journey to face the truth but Basil? Basil didn't. Basil just wanted his best friend at his side again.
@letah7264 Жыл бұрын
I doubt Sunny fully forgave himself, but I understand what you meant. I think we just have to look a bit more at the symbolism of it. Basil's something (while may reference Mari's hair as he saw her down the stairs) is mainly the literal portrayal of the guilt eating inside him, which in the end, of course wouldn't just disappear, but at least was retreated to a more controlled level. Sunny's something is more on the distorted representation of his sister than the guilt. The way it's so distorted that it doesn't even quite look like his sister and haunts him in a way that is what he believes he deserves. Different from what Mari would have wanted, she wouldn't haunt him like that as seen in the few times Sunny actually remembers her for her true self. So I believe in the end, Sunny's something disappearing wasn't his guilt and self-blame just gone as well, but the distorted version that he had of his sister, memories and denial gone instead. It's more about him finally accepting the truth and facing reality for what it is as painful as it may be, and leaving his distorted view behind.

I think Sunny didn't immidiately shut himself out after Mari's death, as shown in the game he did came over to basil's house after school and scribbled out all the the pictures with mari on them, then left. Unfortunately Aubrey discovered the photos and thought Basil did it himself. Basil took the blame, he didn't want anybody to hate Sunny

I wanna point out one minor mistake here: Sunny didn't pick the photo he scribbles on. He did that on some/all of the photos in the album, and not just on those that has Mari in them. (You can see this in one of the hole that spawns in when you pick up a hangman key)
@TheJoviLovi2 жыл бұрын
I'll always consider Basil very flawed and just stubborn but there's no denying how much guilt he had, I mean the Basil haters have a point of his selfish needs to protect Sunny but in one of the photos of him calling Sunny "the baby of the group" you kinda realize Basil is almost pure at heart and never thinks rationally, he was a kid and did a bad thing, just to save himself and his best friend but costing the lives of everyone around him. It's sad to see but you gotta understand what Basil did and why he did it to understand him. I hope people realize there's no good or bad for any character, it's all just a mistake, one fatal mistake.
@basilofgoodwishes41382 жыл бұрын
I think it's less selfishness that fuels him, but a warped sense of empathy and delusions. He doesn't even fully comprehend Sunny as the one who pushed Mari and ruined his photos.

I'm rather surprised you didn't mention headspace Basil, as it's an important part of how Sunny sees Basil. Headspace Basil is the _only_ entity in the early game who even vaguely mentions the truth of Mari's death, and that's because in the real world, he's the only one in the group that knows what really happened. Throughout the game, in headspace more and more things talk about the truth, because Basil started that spiral of revealing the events. In black space, Omori, which is specifically designed to repress ANYTHING that could lead Sunny to face the truth, kills him several times. But the real Basil needs Sunny to be with him and face the truth with him, and Sunny knows it, so headspace Basil always finds a way back to him. Do you think it's a coincidence that in the boss rush in the Hikikomori route, the route where Sunny specifically tries to avoid the truth as much as possible, when Basil is with Sunny instead of da squad they together face Hellmari, Something, the truth. I think this is an important part of the character, but otherwise the analysis is very well done. I also think he's the one in the worst situation out if the group, because unlike Sunny all his hope is based on Sunny himself, who he hasn't seen in years and is about to move away.
@coffee-ouji2 жыл бұрын
i'd like to add to the blackspace part that there's an alledged removed cutscene in the Basil fight, where Sunny takes a deep breath and shifts into Omori when he runs out of pacific options to use, so because Omori "took control" of Sunny that's why he just started punching the fuck out of Basil
@pkey16902 жыл бұрын
Honestly how Basil knew what hanging was always bothered me in a way, If Basil already considered hanging himself before at some point in time were things were arguable better, why didnt he do that in the 4 years period between the accident and Sunny's return to his life? I guess It's just one of the things from the truth sequence that arent even explained at all in the game but that had to be there for the truth sequence to be has impactful as It was, like how did the authorities never find out? Or If Sunny dad ever found out and that's why he leaft (yes I'm aware about that black space 2 section, but It's still not much info to actually imagine what really happened), etc

also i think a good thing to mention is that basil's guilt of killing mari was much bugger and stronger than sunny's, even if both of them tried theri best to avoid it. for ex. basil's something is greatly larger than sunny's something and the fact that basil is surrounded by the something in a specific way (there are teeth and a mouth thats basil's in) that you can say that the guilt was really eating him up inside.

Also worth noting is that the hiring of Polly probably hit him hard as well. She's a nice person but she is a walking confirmation of just how little his parents care about him, that they can't even be with him when one of their own parents is terminally ill. When the game starts, Basil is already planning to end it all. He tells Sunny that it was nice to see him "even for a little while", before he learns that he's moving away. And he gives him his most prized possession, his photo album, which is another common thing that people who decided to unalive do.
@threebeanmaraca2 жыл бұрын
basil is my personal favorite, but i can definitely recognize that many things he does are wrong. they can't be excused because he's a child, of course, but why he does what he does is understandable. he likely never had much of a proper upbringing because his parents were always away traveling, so his understanding of the world was a little skewed. instead of telling the truth, he decided it would be best to hide it. he was afraid of sunny getting in trouble. he probably didn't understand that coming clean was for the best. also, there is the fact that witnessing someone die, especially if it was someone you were close to, is traumatizing and shocking, so he was likely not thinking straight. his brain was in panic mode. because he never was able to process what happened properly and because he shut himself away from everyone else emotionally, his emotional growth was probably stunted, leaving him with his 12-year-old emotional level (same with sunny, but we're talking about basil rn). he was never able to move on, because who else could he talk about it with? sunny was the only other one who knew (and even if sunny's parents knew, they would've hidden everything instead of actually taking care of the situation). he couldn't talk about any of it, not mari's death, not the pictures, nothing. that would paint sunny in a bad light, and he wanted to keep believing sunny was a good person. he was in such extreme denial, as was sunny, that SOMETHING happened. that was his explanation for everything. (also, this may sound unrelated but-) my big take away from OMORI as a whole is that what went down would've had a better outcome if the gang's parents were actually good at being parents, especially sunny's. sunny's parents likely hid the whole thing, and even earlier than that, probably caused mari's perfectionism which caused the whole situation with the recital. sunny probably felt like he couldn't compare to his sister so was frustrated he was being given the same expectations with the recital. kel and hero's parents focused all on hero, leaving kel all alone. hero has a similar situation with mari, his parents expecting too much of him. what he wanted didn't matter much because they wanted him to be a doctor instead of going into culinary school. he likely didn't have the proper time to grieve because he had to move on quickly in order to do well in school like his parents wanted. basil's parents were never really there, because traveling, but you can't really fault them for that because they likely traveled for work. aubrey's parents likely had an already strained relationship before then, but we don't really know if their separation had anything to do with mari's death. but because of mari's death, aubrey's friend group, the only other people that were in her life other than her parents, were gone. her understanding was that they were leaving her and didn't care about mari (which makes sense because she was 12 and didn't understand what they were going through as well). anyway, ramble/rant over. let me know if i missed anything, especially with the last paragraph. have a good day :)
@Pepstep_072 жыл бұрын
From context clues in the game I think it's very obvious Sunny and Mari's parents were controlling and strict, while Basil's parents were neglectful, both of which are forms of emotional abuse. Aubrey also has a shitty family and she ended up bullying and beating Basil with her gang for years. I feel so bad for all 4 of them, they all did horrible things and its clear their upbringings had a lot to do with it. Thankfully Hero and Kel have a loving family that took care and helped them (and they are also the ones who coped with Mari's death in the healthiest ways out of the gang, even if it clearly still hurts them)

Part of that is perspective We as the players just spent a whole game through the eyes of sunny, we know how he reacted to the terrible event and how much it destroyed him, to the point where the mental hell he created for himself could have arguably been worse had he not just told the truth immediately after, but we don't get basil's perspective, so it's harder to accept his part in the incident, I think there's alot of people out there who share some basil traits, who can sympathize with him, but others who don't have a much harder time accepting him Of course he's also this game's cute boy, which means he has a large fam following regardless of who he is or what he did, and like yin to yang, his large fandom grows another group annoyed with his popularity and hates him simply because he's so popular

When you mentioned that Basil isn't very present in the game, it made me realize how little screen time Basil has, atleast for a main character. In headspace, Basil appears for the tutorial section, a couple of moments in blackspace & if your in the hikiomori route he appears on the picnic blanket with Mari with a couple of new interactions. He also has an appearance in the new content as a playable character... exclusively in the boss rush. In the real world he's present throughout but he rarely talks & he's kinda just there, except for that one moment on day 1. Basil is mostly present in the final of the game, either he's a "boss fight" & present in some memories or he went to meet Mari. Maybe Basil is a lot more present in game & my memory is failing me, but for a main character Basil doesn't get that much screen time, although at the end of the day he definitely is still very important to the plot. I guess you could also mention Stranger, but they appear very few times in the game & this comment is way too long for what basically is me saying "Basil got no time".

I don't think Stranger should be associated with Basil, I always saw him as an different entity. To me it makes more sense that Stranger is some sort of "device" who want Sunny to tell the Truth, it works through Basil at first, and by himself second. That would explain how Basil could exist in hikikomori, with the Stranger gone/incapacited, the truth would stay covered, and letting Basil with Mari isn't dangerous. (I know Stranger isn't really gone, and is all the "something" small puddles, but for sure, it has no power compared to pre-saving Basil in hikikomori/the true end) But yeah, you pretty much on the chase of Basil for all game, just to not finding it on true route, or to just let him near Mary forever. And you don't get shit on his background for sure. You'll get really fast that he likes photography and gardening, sure, but nothing else.

Basil was a child who was neglected by his parents and knew what a noose was before Mari even died (how would he know how to tie one otherwise). His action are wrong yes, but they are wrong in the same way Sunny pushing Mari off the stairs is wrong. It was a mistake done in the heat of a very traumatic and painful moment. Not to reach too hard but you can also make a reasonable argument that Basil is queer, the way he acts towards Sunny before Mari dies hints towards a potential crush, and when they went through Mari's death together, he completely focused on protecting Sunny and denying he ever did anything wrong. He invented Something and convinced sunny its real, he loved Sunny so much that he refused to believe Sunny would ever hurt Mari, let alone kill her. Whether you read that love as romantic or not is up to you, but its entirely possible, and it could be the reason why Basil was suicidal prior to Mari's death too. The game is set in what seems to be the late 90s, queer people weren't exactly accepted back then. I also don't think Sunny hates Basil. In the good ending I believe the secret cutscene we see indicates that the two will finally have an opportunity to heal. The part of Sunny that hates Basil is Omori, the more you focus on being Omori in the bad endings, the more violent fantasies Sunny has about killing and hurting him. In the good ending, Sunny literally faces off and destroys Omori. Sunny realizes that the part of him that blames and hates Basil for what he did is wrong, they both made mistakes, they both hung Mari together, they both kept it a secret and hurt their friends. If there's ever a sequel to Omori, I would love it if Basil was the main character. Maybe instead of going into a fantasy world and then back to the real world, the game would switch from Basil's past and then to his present situation where he is trying to mend his friendship with everyone after the events of the good ending. Idk. What I do know is, he is a fantastic yet very misunderstood and hated character when he doesn't deserve to be. Both Sunny and Aubrey are forgiven and understood for their horrible actions. Sunny killed his sister but we KNOW it's a mistake. Aubrey bullied and abused Basil for YEARS but we understand she was going through a very hard time too. Basil was selfish and lied and hurt his friends to protect Sunny, but again, he has his reasons and he deserves understanding and compassion just as much as the others do.

Wow...you don't actually bully basil? Ok, to be honest i'm really tired of seeing how a lot of people bullies him. It's not only unjustified, but it's really annoying. There so many of these toxic people who are making cruel jokes not for fun but just because it seems normal to them. But its not. I'm fucking tired of seeing how many people hates my favourite character, just because they can't understand his actions. I mean, no one would love if their favourite character has been bullied. And i'm glad to see someone who stopes doing it...even only for one video...

This video was so refreshing to me. He's my favorite character one of the reasons being the phycology surrounding his character and I'm very interested in phycology. It's very good to see that someone is really diving into his character from a constructive point of view rather than "UwU boy flower softie" or "PHYCO HUNG MARI TERRIBLE GRRR!!" because he is just morally grey. So I very much agree with this comment. People should really understand he's not just black and white. Like all people, he's got depth and not just one side or the other mentality.
@bumbabees Жыл бұрын
@@Im_justhere his treatment reminds me quite a bit of how chara was/is treated in the undertale fandom. theyre either treated like an innocent baby or satan incarnate. (though the "satan incarnate" interpretation is more common) its not often that you get a nuanced portrayal of them. and i feel like that happens so often in fandoms, to at least one character. and it will never not annoy the shit out of me. i cant stand this purely black and white view so many people seem to have towards these characters and stories because thats not how the world works. thats not how _people_ work.

It never occurred to me that Basil was the one who took photos of the accident... I mean, yeah, he's the owner of the camera, yet I just thought the plot called for the photos and that was why they existed. Now I'm just imagining Basil snapping hella photos after witnessing and committing the most tragic things 💀
@charlieee44152 жыл бұрын
Absolutely no (HOPEFULLY💀) i think it's the way of the came to come up with what happened following the album theme. This since there where all the memories of Basil, and Basil is implied in the accident, so it became a permanent memory for him (trauma) as it's said for the original album (the memories he wants to keep) except that this album is actually kind of cursed and unwanted (due to being a traumatic event). I would take it as though as how the game show us Basil's POV.

Waitt I just realized that if Basil was taking pictures of Sunny and Mari in their house he must’ve been stalking them cause he didn’t know it was gonna happen
@toretyph Жыл бұрын
he wasn't taking pictures, though;; the pictures are just a way to show the events of what happened through basil's eyes. plus there are multiple photos where it shows that basil has both of his hands in front of the "camera": the one where he's covering his eyes, or the "camera" in this case, after they brought mari's body back upstairs as well as the one where he's shaking sunny to snap him out of the stupor he was in. there's many more too, the one where he's carrying mari and you can see his reflection in the glass door, the one where he's tying the noose, etc etc... it's impossible for him to have taken those pictures because he physically can't. he doesn't have some third hand to take pictures with. even if he did, why would he take pictures anyway? it genuinely annoys me when the fandom absolutely REFUSES to use their logic and they start to paint him as some psycho, instead of what he actually is; a kid who had to go through a traumatic event and lost a dear friend (because surprise! basil loved his friends, including mari, and he didn't have any reason to be malicious towards mari either). he was also very terrified of losing his best friend (sunny), because he knew the consequences that came with sunny "murdering" mari. he even started using the "something behind him" excuse to cope with the fact that sunny did something horrible like that. he was happy to believe in a delusion like that as long as it meant that he wouldn't have to lose another friend ever again. he was just 12 years old... not to mention he probably has prior mental issues that helped in intensifying the irrationality that he was feeling when that whole situation went down too. so no, i doubt he'd do something like that. it doesn't make any sense for his character whatsoever
@dannym2804 Жыл бұрын
@@toretyph i agree with you, and in hindsight i do remember a photo where basil's reflection is visible on the backyard door-he was not holding a camera. i was mostly joking with that last sentence tho, like it'd be nonsensical if basil really decided to run through all his camera film during the most traumatic evening of his life with this all said, i guess that brings into question how these photos came about. maybe the "how" isn't meant to be important, or maybe the album serves as a metaphor for the boys' shared, repressed memory of that evening. and/or sunny's mind simply imagines the album's existance
@toretyph Жыл бұрын
@@dannym2804 oh, you were joking- sorry if i seemed a little harsh in my original comment then. i've just seen too many misinterpret the truth sequence and they end up villainizing basil (and/or sunny, but most of the time they seem to be really mean to basil in particular) for it, and it saddens me because i feel like it's missing the point of the game, y'know? but yeah, i gotta say that sunny's headspace and black space are super interesting in that respect. the photos, mari's presence in the form of a ghost, and basil's thoughts and feelings in the form of stranger are all things that realistically don't make a lot of sense, unless those white egret orchids that are present in the real world at mari's grave and basil's house have something to do with sunny being connected and being able to feel them or something? but idk how realistic that is either. in the end i think you're right, the "how" of it probably doesn't matter at all. whether or not it was mari and basil's encouragement that helped sunny come out with the truth or perhaps sunny's own guilt that leaked into his imagination getting to him, it's probably vague so people can have their own interpretations of what it all meant

A very short fanfic related analysis that is somewhat related to Basil: As a professional fanfic reader I’ve noticed Basil always kinda suffers. even in sfw fics. I think it’s because, most fandoms want their favorite character to be happy, but according to my experience it’s not the same for omori, like omori fans usually want their favorite character to suffer That also applies to me that why I like making Sunny suffer But anyway Basil is the most popular and loved character in omori, so i think this explains it for why he always suffers. [I still think Basil suffering that much is kinda unfair] Notice how this also ties in with the rankings for most liked Omori characters 1st - Basil 2nd - Sunny [but it doesnt look like sunny is 2nd tbh like everyone ignores him] 3rd - Kel??? Mari??? idk but it’s one of them and I forgot the rest of the rankings And please don’t get offended, this is just the internet and everyone has their own opinion But if you think there are flaws in my mini theory then yeah you can tell me just don’t be like unnecessarily rude

Awww... I can understand the choice of these writers, even though I don't like it, and wish Basil got something better, finally. Precious poor flower boy. I don't think Basil is the most beloved character in the fandom though, I've seen plenty or disapproval or even hate for him, sadly. I can understand it partly, but I just can't agree. It feels to me that Kel is a fan favorite, Mari being very enjoyed as well, and Sunny, seemingly surprisingly for a silent protagonist, though he's not actually a personality lacking character, as his mental state and personality is reflected throughout the game in a bit more unconventional ways
@azuremoon-4 Жыл бұрын
@@subat0micchanterelle Okay I am a Basil hater, but tbh my hate slowly grew for him after playing the game over and over and over again, each time with more knowledge about the files and the nature of the characters to build a sense of structure in my head, and Basil has a good heart, he has the sole wish to protect everyone close to him and he suffers from abandonment issues and attachment issues, no matter what happens he doesn't want his friends to leave him, but that still doesn't make him redeemable in my eyes. People try to justify his hanging idea by saying that "oh he was a child", but even after 4 years it seems like Basil really blamed himself for anything, Mari's death just had a severe effect on him and he quite literally does everything but apologize for his mistakes in the ending sequences of the game, headspace Basil does apologize, that is evident as per the sequence before memory lane, but the way actual Basil acted, is the sign of a person who let their trauma get to them and ended up being a horrible person. He refuses to admit what he did was wrong in front of Sunny, he blames Sunny for not reaching out to him after the accident even though Sunny was the worst hit out of literally everyone, but Basil has the audacity to almost like he was the main victim while he definitely wasn't, if anything he qualifies as an accidental antagonist of the game due to his personality traits and behaviour, he refuses confrontation, he refuses to reach out first, he refuses to call his own actions wrong in front of Sunny, he ends up growing desperate and straight up lashes out like a kid to stop Sunny, even though Sunny is visibly hitting Basil to just stop, while he refuses to do so, I am okay with the hanging, I will accept because he was soo young and he didn't know any better, but still I don't think "hanging" someone is something that anyone can think without being aware of the consequences of the matter, 12 year olds aren't complete idiots, we aren't talking about 7 year olds here or something. That's honestly a few of the many reasons I hate Basil a lot throughout the whole game, and I can see from the perspective from the people who love him because I was one of them too but, I really cannot find any way to like Basil, apart from playing off his major mistakes as him being an innocent flower boy who didn't know anything better.
@subat0micchanterelle Жыл бұрын
@@azuremoon-4 I can see your perspective here. I feel like too many people downplay Basil's involvement in the truth as well, while I feel thrown aback by people making him sound sadistic for it, it wasn't a little mistake he should not take any blame for, for sure. However, I feel like it's a bit unfair to see him as corrupted by trauma based on what we see of him in the real world. The confrontation with Sunny with shears... it was a psychotic episode, which also happened after his grandma died. In this case, he was absolutely not thinking straight, and it's speculated he tried to pierce Something's eye, perceiving it as a real entity that haunts Sunny, had caused the horrible things he's responsible for, to put it to an end. He wasn't trying to hurt Sunny. I dunno how to judge him personally... I guess it's implied he took responsibility and got happy the truth is out there as seen in the bonus cutscene in the hospital, but it's quite vague and there are so many things left untold. I just really hope that all these lovely words he told Sunny in his dream aren't just a figment of Sunny's imagination or his psyche's way to reassure him, and something Basil actually thought, and meant, and would actually tell him...
@azuremoon-4 Жыл бұрын
@@subat0micchanterelle Oh he's not sadistic at all, he had good intentions, but his victim mentality towards something soo serious, and completely ignoring the other issues that Sunny had to face throughout the game do make me pissed off at him, like I would have immense respect for him if the words he said to Sunny before memory lane are actually the words Basil actually wished to say, but he didn't, and we know Basil isn't one to confront Sunny and tell him those words, he is genuinely too much of a coward and lost in his denial to do any of that, but if he wholeheartedly understands that his mistakes were straight up wrong and openly apologizes for them instead of justifying his errors by his denial, because I have seen people fricking justifying their mistakes by their mental state in that area, and due to my experience with it, mental state doesn't make you lose accountability, you still need to apologize for it that Basil didn't do, but that's it for me really, and no I do not hate Sunny the same way because Sunny had the guts to face all of this, and people forget that Sunny by the end most likely didn't even know about the hanging until it was way too late for him to change anything anymore and he was soo lost that he didn't even realize that he was following Basil until his trance broke, and then he entered a state of dissociation for 4 years, where he would constantly stay and live in the illusion that his sister Mari is still alive and that she never left, and he did it to such an extent that he buried everything connected to reality to such an extent that he no longer remembered them, and by the end when Sunny's dissociation broke, he immediately went to confront Basil, something that Basil failed to do for 4 years.

I agree with pretty much all of this. I don't think that it does either character justice to compare the tragedy of sunny and basil's fate due to the difference in the reason they ended up this way, but you've explained both sides very well. I definitely don't hate basil, though many of the consequences they faced later were because of his decision to hide the truth. I also believe he's manipulative and cruel to an extent during the events of sunny leaving his house, (the photos, blaming aubrey, etc.) But as you stated, these actions can be explained, not justified. I think if there were to be a follow up of some kind, he should have to face the issues he's caused and work through them as well as willingly learn how to open up to avoid this again. I think that this is entirely plausible after then ending as well, considering he presumably gained the resolve sunny did to tell the truth. All in all, basil was stupid because of his past, and is now working towards fixing that. Such a beautifully written character.
@basilofgoodwishes41382 жыл бұрын
I disagree with viewing their motivations as different as both did what they did for the same reason: protect Sunny. Also he never blamed Aubrey for anything other than the stuff. You need to explain to me what exactly he did to manipulate Sunny, the cruel part I can get halfway, but not fully. Yeah, he is a truly well-written character.
@arandomperson77442 жыл бұрын
@@basilofgoodwishes4138 @Basil of Good Wishes after thinking about it some more, I agree. I don't remember exactly what my thought process was on it, but clearly I missed some element because they both definitely created something to protect themselves from guilt. And basil wouldn't have hung her if not to save sunny. I think i might have brain damage as well. Anyway, towards the point of blaming aubrey, he avoids explaining why the pictures are marked out and sends sunny and kel on a witch hunt (which they admittedly did mostly of their own volition) to get back the album. This is enough for them to blame aubrey for it, even if it was cleared up immediately, but he still tried to hide that from them using aubrey. As for how he manipulated sunny, there's one example. Most of basils manipulation is entirely unintentional and comes from carelessness with words and insensitivity than malice, like with mari in the first place. Basil, after seeing mari definitely wasn't coming back, made the decision to hide the truth for sunny, which obviously led to years of bottled trauma instead of jail or therapy. He plays the victim very well, getting the boys to outright attack people on their own sometimes, and when at home, he avoids sunny in the bathroom most of the time. The biggest one is in fact in the bathroom at the final battle: they've both convinced themselves that they need to die, or basils convinced himself that both need to go and is trying to do it for sunny, going by the dialogue. Some of this is a bit of a stretch, but there's enough to give solidity to his ability to manipulate whether or not it's on purpose.
@arandomperson77442 жыл бұрын
@@basilofgoodwishes4138 oh riiigght eith my first point I was talking about how sunny secluded himself on purpose, while basil was cut off from everyone. Basil was already troubled before meeting the group, so this left him in suspended torture for 4 years while he waited for either his grandma to die or sunny to come out. Meanwhile, sunny avoided reality entirely, living in headspace for as long as possible so his endless hallucinations don't get the better of him. I should rephrase that I was comparing where they ended up and why, not why they did what they did. I think anyway, it was around this time I posted it and it's currently 1:37 am so I'm a bit out of it.
@basilofgoodwishes41382 жыл бұрын
@@arandomperson7744 Ah that is what you meant with the Photo Album and Aubrey. Still, I don't see this as manipulative because the exact reasons for why she did that are irrelevant here; she stole something important and she needs to give it back. Kel also wanted to be civil with Aubrey about the album, but he lost his cool and scoffed it off. Besides, I don't think telling anyone what happened with the Album would have changed the outcome of the day. Aubrey would still refuse to give it back and she would still try to fight them. When Hero came and helped them to reconcile with one another, Aubrey didn't mentioned it until the evening and she already made up with them without explaining it. Much of the conflict could have been avoided had everyone, (especially Aubrey) done a better job explaining it. Manipulation requires intent and I don't think he really wanted to vilify Aubrey and her new friends on the second day, as they have shown how much they don't care for him and wanted him being thrown out of the hangout spot. With the whole fiasko with Mari and the bathroom scene as well as the scene in Basil's room, with the exception of the bathroom scene, I can see why someone would think that this is manipulation, but I see it more as him being desperate and knowing no other way, which is why his thought-process is so wierd for others. To me, Basil is someone who is in pain and dire need for Help and not some machivallian manipulator, because he would be a bad one.

People with hate for Basil aren't actually paying attention to the game, and clearly only believe two things "it was his idea and he is obsessed." You did a good job explaining details about his character and his relationship to his friends. However-- and I might get some groans about this... I think you're a little bit wrong about Sunny and Basil's relationship. Proof exists kind of clearly that Sunny likes Basil a little more deeply than is stated; and not Aubrey; proof consisting solely of in-game content, a little understanding of psychology, and with a small mention about OMOCAT's art. I'm not saying they're romantically involved at all (yet?), but... it's at least clear Sunny has a thing for his best friend. Evidence below. Point 1: I think it's clear from in-game interaction that it is Aubrey who has a crush on Sunny, and not the other way around. Starting off near the end of the game, oddly enough, In the real world,while hanging out with your friends on the last day, Aubrey talks to Sunny on the swing set, sitting still in her seat while the latter simply swings back and forth without a word. She shows she cares about him here; and again, while having a picnic with Mari, Sunny simply sits-- while it is Aubrey who is constantly stealing glances at him. Now whether his mind is else where or... well he's probably not *ignoring* her; as they are friends... he simply doesn't say much, or make it clear to the person playing that he responds. The facts here are that her attention is clearly on him. On a side note, all of OMOCAT's art of the two being close to one another are one or both of two things: Aubrey is the one attached to Omori (not vice versa), and/or it is very old concept art from which the game's release has changed quite a lot and doesn't represent the canon anymore. Point 2: The only time (that I recall) the idea that Sunny has a crush on Aubrey is ever mentioned is during the rainy day scene down memory lane. Basil asks if Sunny has a crush on her, because Sunny asks to see pictures of her, and Sunny's ears heat up at the question.... however, keep in mind that these are kids, and being asked if you had a crush on someone would almost 100% make a kid blush and get flustered, regardless of if it were true. On top of that, when down memory lane, Sunny asks to see all of the pictures Basil takes, regardless of if Aubrey is the in them or not, so clearly Basil is either making an assumption or simply teasing his best pal. Point 3: Headspace. Probably the biggest contributor to this... Read and really take in the last bit. In headspace, when tagging in Omori, Aubrey is leaning in with a smile, trying to be close-- you can clearly see Omori being stand-offish and leaning away from her, reaching his right arm over to hold his left arm, like he's trying to not be so close (is he just shy, or is is he uncomfortable?) When Basil tags in Omori, he has put a flower in Omori's hair and is hugging his head-- no awkwardness from Omori. When tagging in Aubrey Omori gives her a simple high five; she's clearly excited, but that's about it... but.when Omori tags in Basil, rather than just some go-ahead, Omori holds Basil's hand himself. And then there's follow-ups. Aubrey's follow-up with Omori consists of her looking to Omori, with a heart, trying to find signs of affection or approval-- and even at max friendship level the most that happens is Omori finishes his ". . ." with a simple thumbs up-- this at least satisfies Aubrey. Basil, however, has 3 follow-ups, in which he and Omori can vent, attacking together and both become angry; mull over their sad thoughts and become sad; and finally they can comfort each other, which heals, makes them both happy, and hearts accompany them. Then of course, there is Omori's energy release with Basil, in which they look at each other and hold hands. The biggest deal with all of this is the fact that is *is* in headspace. Headspace is Sunny's world. Headspace is the place Sunny subconsciously created for himself to escape reality. It is literally his ideal world, with his ideal and subconscious memories of his friends and desires all wrapped up into his perfect little world of happy adventures. It is proof of how Sunny sees his friendships deep down. He clearly recognizes Aubrey's affections.... but he clearly lays his affections on Basil, who after all, is also the catalyst and focus of Sunny's adventures as Omori. You might say "Oh but Omori kills dream Basil a bunch, he doesn't like Basil; he's bad right?"... but no...The only time Omori is hostile toward Basil, is when he realizes Sunny is too close to uncovering what Omori is specifically made to keep repressed; that's why he exists. By the end of the game Omori is no longer the vessel Sunny uses to adventure, but instead takes his place on a throne; doing whatever it takes keep Sunny from seeing the truth, proving he is the true reason Sunny cannot move on-- even going so far as to rid Sunny's dreams of his closest and dearest friend, simply because he is the connection to the truth-- it really is one of those 'you were playing as the antagonist the whole time" kind of games. Forgive me for rambling there. Anyway. There are smaller details I could go into, and I could go into the psychology of the way Basil views Sunny, but theis is good enough, I think... and this is a freaking essay of a comment, so... TLDR: I know Sunny isn't the focus of this video, but you glossed over and denied something that is shown clearly even without making crazy assumptions. Aubrey probably likes Sunny *that* way. Sunny doesn't really reciprocate. Sunny actually likes Basil... ahem... *a lot*. EDIT: This video obviously still gets a like, of course. Basil is misunderstood by way too many people, and deserves love; never hate.

Well, I'm Basil hater and I think I have to tell why I hate Basil I don't hate him for his personality or sm(although it still bothers me how he hangs Mari...) I hate him bc bullshit he did never acknowledged as bad. Like stabbing Sunny in the eye or hanging Mari. I saw that many people blames Sunny for hanging Mari in their fics, and it's enrages me bc it was all Basil's idea and he was the one who did it. And it's always bothers me how everyone just shrugging off the fact that Basil STABBED Sunny in the EYE. I'm ok if good characters do bad things as long as it acknowledged from other characters and they learn from it. But I feel like all bad things Basil did ignored by everyone, and it feels so unfair towards Sunny who always experience full rage from his friends for truth, but Basil never did. I hope you understand why I hate Basil now._.

I have to question to the fandom about something and basil. Was it stated that basil was the only one that came up with the idea? Because i have a feeling that sunny also had part in said idea, but i don't see people talking about it. (i had a comment here explaining my reasons, and it makes lot of sense by the symbolism side. but since symbolism is vague compared to statements i wasn't sure so i deleted it, and i want to ask first, before possibly ruining people's expectations of omori idk. (sorry if you saw my previous comment and (idk how you felt about it because i don't know but i hope nothing bad).

In the files there are explanations for each photo in the truth album, but they were never used in the game. The descriptions are from Sunny's point of view, and it's clear he was in a complete state of shock and denial at the time; hell, it seems like Sunny didn't even know that Basil hanged Mari until he looked straight at it.

@@macIanky Ok. I think i'll have to explain what i have in mind because i think this might be not all the truth. Thanks for answering. (warning, im going to get dark. And potentially twist the story to an even more darker tone.) I agree mostly with it, but i do think he knew. But he was dissasociating his actions however, that does not mean he is "not doing them". If blackspace photos are valid, then the photo of hands describes "something is happening". I don't think the use of something here is coincidental. Sunny might have known deep inside might have known what it means. Why else mewo in white space would say "waiting for something to happen?"... and then the black lightbulb. an idea. is it just the idea of dying? Or.. i hope im wrong. (and im really sorry for thinking this. but i need to say it since it irks me that this might be true. but i didn't want to say it until i found more proof of it, but i think i should say it, sorry for ruining omori if im wrong) is it because the hanging was his idea. Maybe towards himself. But basil was there, and as his best friend knew what was he thinking since he knew Sunny a lot, so he got the idea from sunny. And then basil decided to do that, in an attemt to stop sunny from doing it to himself instead. And this is why something is so terrifying to sunny. Thats why instead of representing mari dying by the accident (like basil's something), it was instead representing mari in that state... Because its all his guilt, idea, and fear manifested into a single being. That also might explain why basil's red eyes and getting into black space symbolizes how basil is able to sometimes peer into sunny's darkest toughts. That also might explain why sunny appeared to hate basil for doing that, but in the end sunny knew it wasn't his fault. Basil didn't know what to do, he was afraid of losing sunny, and the only idea presented to him at the time was sunny's idea towards himself. F*k.

@@tornadix99 I'm pretty sure it's stated in the truth album that Sunny was looking at leaves on the ground whilst Basil was hanging the body. I'm confident that he had no part in the hanging.

@@macIanky Carrying her to the backyard, while being told what happened and not looking at Badil deliberately is clearly the sign of an accomplice. He also never told anyone of it, which does make him responsible as well.
@macIanky2 жыл бұрын
@@basilofgoodwishes4138 It's said he was only listening to a "voice", and throughout the majority of the event, Sunny believed he was dreaming. He somewhat participated in the hanging, but unknowingly. He was in such a state of shock that he followed an unknown "voice" telling him to follow instructions in order to make things better. An accomplice intentionally and knowingly helps one commit a crime, but in this case it's clear Sunny had no idea what was happening.
