In indonesia the only basil they use is lemon basil, it’s used in a lot of indo cuisines. My fave “Chicken Woku”, it uses a bunch of lemon basil + kaffir lime leaves.

Finally figured the "Tulsi" plant that I have is actually Thai Basil with its sharp and narrow green leaves but purple stems which neither looks like the Krishna Tulsi with purple leaves or any other Tulsi plants with their green ;eaves and stems. Great video!

Are piccolino and spicey globe just 2 names for the same thing?

Very nice, but I wish you would include the Latin name for each cultivar.

Well, all the cultivars shown fall under the main species Ocimum basilicum. Lemon basil may be a cross with Ocimum americanum, denoted Ocimum x citriodora. African Blue is Ocimum kilimanscharicum x Ocimum basilicum 'Dark Opal'.

What is different between basil leaves and tulsi leaves?
@jonathanchang15744 жыл бұрын
Common basil is Ocimum basilicum and Tulsi, or holy basil is Ocimum tenuiflorum, a different species within the same genus. There are different kinds of Tulsi, but the most common kind (Kaprao) has a very sweet, skunky, bubblegum fragrance even as you brush the leaves. The smell is very similar to the African Ocimum americanum. Other Tulsi, the Rama and Krishna varieties, are more subdued in flavor, and ornamental in my opinion. They can all be used for cooking, and will impart slightly different tastes. The Thai basil is more spicy, while Greek or Italian basils are more mild and sweet. Vana Tulsi (e.g. tree basil, Ocimum gratissimum, another African variety) has a very clove-like, anise fragrance, a bit similar to the African Blue.

Would have been very helpful to know their botanical names in order to classify them easily, learn about their properties and compare them

Probably all the same specie of common basil? I came here looking for info about neapolitano and it's not included in the list.
