Coaches: discover the #1 drill every youth basketball coach should know: ebasketballcoa...
This video clip features a great basketball drill to teach full court pressure and trapping strategy. You'll learn how to run the 1/4 court, 1/2 court, and 3/4 court trap and force tons of turnovers.

Coach Al Sokaitis is a Great coach. His University of Alaska Fairbanks team (D-II) beat 8Division I teams! Amazing. He has now brought his "turnaround magic" to another small college - Post University. Sokatis also worked with NBA All-Star David Lee. When will a mid-major team hire Sokaitis to take them to the next level?

it's all about responding as a whole, not just one, or two players but the entire team.

As someone who has coached basketball for over 35 years, may I offer a thought. While your observation may seem sensible, fundamentally it is not sound. Trying to steal the ball here leads to careless fouls. Instead, when the trap is set correctly, the player with the ball will be forced to make a slower, poorer pass which can be stolen by the other defenders. Trappers stop and contain the ball, the other 3 players look to intercept - - stealing easier, odds of fouling less.

You can drop back to zone. The trap is an attempt to get a steal, it is not gonna happen most of the time, you use it sparingly. You will simply drop back and play your usual defensive scheme, a zone or man to man.

The one I've seen or heard about was the one that Vergil Fletcher ran at Collinsville Illinois high school in the 50's early 60's. I wasn't even born until the 90's but I've heard about how wild it was.

Not a fan of trapping from in front. Prefer to 'Run and Jump' from the blind side.

Does not work at NBA and elite college level due higher operating ceiling and strength and accuracy of passing. They will kill you for these overplays. At high school level, it is a pretty darn good thing system to throw at your opponent.
