+BBALLBREAKDOWN Yeah James Harden is strong, that's why he releases low Can you make a vid how to get open against or pull-up over a taller defender? I want to be able not to get blocked especially on miss-matches and when my teammates can't get open.

Coach, I'd imagine you already have something in the makings for a ATL Hawks play review, but if you don't I'd love to see you break down their play style. What coach Budenholzer has done there is remarkable. Everyone is buying in and there is a new star player weekly. Kyle Korver is perhaps the best pure shooter of the era and maybe even in the history of basketball. Anyways, props to all the content you bring us. Thanks and happy holidays

Hey coach can you breakdown for us these two (one would also be good): - okc's offense before and after kd and russ (at least when kd will be back again) - jimmy butler's game with and without rose on the floor
@HoopsMovement9 жыл бұрын
note on the "turn in the air". ive been thinking about that a lot. its a rotational momentum thing. a "turn through". just about any explosive athletic movement in any sport has a rotational "turn through" component which is a necessity for those right handed step backs to the right. but ive been thinking it could extend the range of a set shot as well to use a "turn through"
@HoopsMovement9 жыл бұрын
frequently nba players moving to the right on their shot they arent even square. they start turned to the right of the basket and finish turned to the left of the basket. thats lots of shots in basketball and id like to see that footwork get more light
@bballbreakdown9 жыл бұрын
Yes! One reason righties shoot better going to left. But that can be balanced if the turn thru was taught more diligently

hey coach nick, assuming you're a right-handed shooter going for a weak hand stepback, couldn't you do instead: plant with the right foot and push off backwards, take a dribble backward (like a backwards in-n-out dribble) instead of gathering the ball, land on the left foot, but then gather the ball and do a small hop into the shot? it might be a bit slower, but it may cover a bit more space and allow more balance than your traditional stepback when you gather the ball before stepping back, instead of after.

Hey coach, im a big fan of your tutorials, i play basketball a lot and improve my play by watching your videos. I enhance my shooting and take some swoosh in some of my games, but my only problem is im left handed. I like doing some good moves like step back but oftenly its just hitting the board. Can you please give me some advice about this and on what position should a left handed player position himself on a game. Thank you in advance coach :)

You know what be an awesome one? A spin move. Not like a post up spin (well that too if you want of course haha) but driving down the lane and then hitting them with a spin move. I got euros, hops, step backs, dream shake, etc just from watching but im not consistent enough with my spin move in not traveling or being able to cover a lot of ground. Just a suggestion. Keep up the good work
@24Eagle119 жыл бұрын
My coach in H.S. never liked us doing spin moves. You turn away from the basket and defenders so there was always a chance you would get doubled team and not know it until it's too late. Even if it was only for a split second that you are gonna be caught off guard, and it did happen. Sometimes one would spin the ball right into the helping defender's hand, and boom, turnover. Maybe it's a good thing you have everything else but a spin move! =D
@Heybuditsme9 жыл бұрын
For me the key to a spin move is knowing the length of your first step. It's a change of direction move, so if you can measure your first step to your defender, get them going that way, then pivot quick, you will be in control after the spin so you can shoot or pass.
@bballbreakdown9 жыл бұрын
Great idea. I teach the Parker spin where it is NOT done with a jump stop (too slow)

Coach nick, as you discussed around 3:49, its hard for righties to shoot moving right and easier to do so moving left due to their shoulder alignment. By this logic, lefties find it EASIER to shoot going right. I was thinking that, if I developed a left handed jumper, I could shoot with my left when going right and continue shooting with my right when going left. I think it may prove to be one of those things that is hard at first, but easier in the long run. Do you think this ambidextrous approach is worthwhile, or is it better to focus on only one jumpshot? I've never had much explanation when I've asked this question, nor do I even know if someone's ever tried it, so any insight of yours would be much appreciated. Thanks for your content and hopefully your response!

Merry Christmas Coach! I know you have videos on the Hop, Turn, Dip, and Sway, but this video had me wondering... How important do you think it is to have the Turn? Is the elbow angle change significant?

Hey coach I got a question. Is it unorthodox or weird that I find a stepback off the left foot more comfortable even though I'm right handed. Doing it off the right foot is way harder and weirder for me.
@MrMo4169 жыл бұрын
Coach Nick Question: When you start your dribble is it better to SWEEP STEP or CROSSOVER STEP.......earlier videos about shooting (SPLIT STANCE) you stated its more explosive to crossover-step to sell the drive
@bballbreakdown9 жыл бұрын
I prefer, off the hop, to not crossover. That said, I learned to go to my left with crossover and it's hard for me not to. Crossing over can give u added protection with your body, but the footwork on a 1 dribble pull up isn't as good

Coach Nick: I'm older now approaching 40. As we get older and still want to play, do you think we should give up the crossovers and dribbling to break opponents down and adopt an old man game (i.e. pierce)? I feel like when I play and try to crossover, my body gets worn out quicker these days. Any help and advice?

It doesn't really need to. As long your body moves down and the ball fakes up, u can get your defender to sit up.

Wow here we go with this hop into your shot crap! I don't know where this came from but it is not good foot work and should not be taught! Hoping back into a step back kills the rocker as your counter move which would be to the rim after setting up the step back several times. Be predictable! Every move has a go to and a counter! The hop in un-natural! What makes this worst is that people who have know idea eat this crap up! I would call this the common core of basketball! Makes me think of a great quote, "There is a reason that he is a high school coach!"
