I was there that night. We all wanted the Knicks to win and we all loved Bernard. Once it became clear we were going to lose we just rooted for Bernard - in between cursing Knick management for letting him go after the knee injury. He and Patrick could have had some great years together.

@@aw144k9 I've often thought that prime Bernard King is the best player to never win an NBA Championship. Not the defensive player or fast break catalyst as Drexler, but more decisive IMO. Drexler is too often overlooked as well even though I hate how he dribbled with his head down. Hard to say who was definitivey the better player.

Simply put, Bernard was a BUCKET, even past his prime and post career threatening knee injury. One of the greatest scorers at the forward position in NBA history.

If the Knicks kept Bernard King instead of cutting him in 1987 the Knicks would have won a Championship. Growing up in Brooklyn, King was a local Legend. He came back from a devastating knee injury torn anterior cruciate ligament, torn knee cartilage, and broken leg bone. He scored over 20 ppg with the Washington Bullets after he was cut by the Knicks.

That shot at 2:40 was crazy and he made it look like nothing, almost standing out of bounds with inches to spare from hitting the side of the backboard, with a young 7 foot shot blocking monster in his face, just turns and swishes like it's nothing
