I worked at 3 different B&R's, late 70s early 80s. Best item on the menu by far was the milkshake/malt, made in metal cups in the old-fashioned machines out of any flavor or combo of flavors in the store. Best stand-alone flavors in my humble opinion: 3. Mint Chip, 2. Rocky Road, 1. Baseball Nut.

It's good to hear a success story. So often when these businesses are acquired by others with diversified interests, the acquisition is treated as just another property, just another corporate asset. So often they lose their heart and soul after that or are absorbed by their former competitor or flipped to whomever may want the physical or trademark assets.

The Baskin-Robbins in my town closed because the medical center that took over the strip mall where it was at wanted more space and took over the last one in my area. It's really sad because that's when B-R really started to get good again. They would show commercials for their milkshakes and I would really want one, but they shut down the only one that was left. I believe it was around the early to mid 2000s when this happened. South Bend/Mishawaka, Indiana area, in case anyone was wondering.

My first job ever was at the Baskin Robbins on Beltline Rd in Irving TX in the early to mid 70’s. My best friends family at the time owned the store. When I started, a single dip cone was 19 cents and a double dip was 37 cents. I remember the crowds in the summertime. Customers lined the whole length of the freezers about 3 people deep. We had a ticket machine and everyone that came in grabbed a ticket and waited for their number to be called. The store was open until 10:30 pm during the summer. After it closed, everyone had to stay and cleanup, sweep, mop, etc and the the store manager would unlock the doors at 11:00 pm and let us out to go home. I remember one night we were all focused on cleaning and then heard someone banging on the front door. We all looked up at the door and there was a guy jumping up and down waving at us and the only thing he had on was a stocking cap. Once we all got a look, he took off. We called those people “streakers” back then. It was a strange fad at the time. LOL. Lots of memories of working there. I have too many to tell here.

That was a surprise! You had the Baskin-Robbins from my childhood at 2:15-2:25. I discovered your channel a week ago and I've been watching a couple of videos ever since. I'd say it's nostalgia, but I'm enjoying the ones for companies I never heard of just as much.

I still remember my grandmother taking me to Baskin Robbins as a child. It was in a shopping center near her house and featured schoolroom style seating, the plastic chairs with little desks attached. It smelled vaguely of refrigerant and somewhat like a bakery. They had ice cream with bubble gum in it which was my favorite. Next door was a Buster Brown kids’ shoe store so often ice cream was followed by a new pair of shoes. That store closed over thirty years ago and the new location, which featured a drive thru, stayed open until a couple of years ago. The ice cream was still as good as it used to be but for some reason that store just couldn’t make it. It was expensive but worth it. At least the old Mom and Pop soft serve ice cream stands from my youth are still around but that does not compare to a cone from Baskin Robbins!

Growing up, we used to go down to where the commuter train line ran through town. My brother at age 3 had a thing for trains. Mom would buy us each an ice cream cone at the Baskin-Robbins near the station and we'd sit and eat them and watch the trains go by. The store owner used to give the kids in town empty ice cream cartons and we'd cover them in contact paper and make waste baskets out of them. Back then, raspberry sherbet and grape ice were my go-to flavors. Nowadays I'm a chocolate-peanut butter swirl girl all the way!

WOW! Owned by Dunkin Donuts. I never knew this. My dad used to take us, back in the 60's and 70's, to the 1201 S Victory Blvd in Burbank California location because, if I remember correctly, used to be the cooperate office. This is where they would put out their new flavors for the public to try and we tried a lot of them too. Some we liked, some we loved and some not so good. The place was always busy each time we stopped there in the summer with families ordering and eating ice cream all around us. My dad told me years later that Baskin and or Robbins would be behind the counter helping serving the customers and getting their feed back from the new flavors. I don't remember if they did serve my family but who knows maybe they did once or twice back then. Great memories there.

There are plenty of them around. They aren't going anywhere. The 31 flavors I think got its roots that you can have a different flavor every day of the month, but I really don't think many people go to Baskin-Robbins every day. After a month, they would be too fat to fit through the door. 31 is also a good number for inventory. Trying to stock many more flavors would make things more difficult.

Blue Laws were still in effect where I lived in the late 1970s, but the mall stayed open for anyone who wanted to window shop or go to the movie theater and eateries, which were allowed to do business on Sunday. My father often took us there hoping we would tire ourselves out running around the big empty spaces. Then we could pick out a cone at the Baskin-Robbins outside the mall's movie theater. I was partial to Pralines and Cream, but sometimes got the Daiquiri Ice instead.
