We are lazier than ever eating fattier foods than ever and wondering why we have problems. As the computer geeks say GIGO = Garbage in Garbage out. We put Garbage into our mouths that requires several trips a day to the toilet rather than 1 trip a day for a number 2. If you do more than 1 number 2 a day change your diet and see the difference and if your number ones are not relatively clear with a little yellow tinge you are also drinking too much soda, coffee etc. Try drinking water only for a week and see how clear your number 1's become. Not only was there a loss in flavor, but the health issues were often debated even back then. But, alas, now generations of consumers are addicted to special sauces and sweet dipping sauces. When my kids were in elementary school, there were ‘hamburger day’ fundraisers raisers. They were crooked at 11:00 am, wrapped and put in camping coolers to keep them warm. They were delivered to the school around 12:00 and then sorted and taken to the classrooms. Our kids participated…once. Around that time, we stopped (for convenience) at a McD’s and, when I bit into my burger, got a mouthful of grease. Since then, only a couple of times for nuggets. I don’t think we’ve even driven through a McD’s parking lot in 20 years. The food speaks for itself. And no, we don’t visit the other one’s except when we’re in a pinch when we’re traveling.

Yeah... It for the reasons you think buddy boy..... The reason a McDonald's burger doesn't rot has nothing to do with chemicals, lack of nutrition, or anything else you should be scared of. It all comes down to water activity. See, a McDonald's hamburger is small and thin, giving it a very high ratio of surface area to volume. Without any moisture, that burger doesn't so much spoil as it does dry out. It's like finding mold on the inside of a waterlogged house - the mold feeds and thrives in moist environments. A McDonald's meal can spoil, but it has to be under certain conditions.1 Oct 2022

And the alternative is… a parent who stays home to cook food and care for the children and educate the children as a stay at home parent? (Because fast food is poison but convenient and “cheap” on its face, daycare involves the neglect of children and damage of separation from parents and aggression of those children raised in that environment, and schools fundamentally cannot spend the time a child needs to learn best because there are many children, not to mention changes on education programs.) So where do you make the space to actually make the change? To have someone with a little hobby subsistence farm. Who has the time? Who has the money for that? If you can halve the workforce, get parents back into the home, the children might be better adjusted and the wages might be higher (because the supply of workers touches on the wages). What do you think?

The first day I worked at McDonald’s was the last time I ate their food. A cursory glance over the boxes in the walk-in’s told me that 1: McDonalds lied in their adverts when they told the population that all their chicken was 100% British free range, it certainly was not. The chicken was from either Thailand or Brazil - neither of which were free range. And 2: that the sheer amount of highly processed ingredients in ALL their products explained the physicality and behaviours of the people I was serving. And when I asked my manager to go part time as I was starting college, they said “no, it’s McDonalds OR school.” My reply was “you’ve just made this decision the easiest one I’ve ever made.”

I changed my food habits 10 years ago and since then I literally prepare all processed ingredients myself ... without the junk. They maintain not 6 years, but about 30 days unsterilized, and about 1 year sterilized. The most important point however is, they are healthy, less expensive and fun to make. Self-made ketchup for example is an adventure every time, and I have discovered so many variations, I can't count. Also, certain sauces are prepared in minutes and are incredibly tasty, compared to industry food. Mayonnaise is ready in 3 minutes and contains just simple ingredients: full eggs, lemon juice, salt, good olive oil, eventually mustard. I have had guests who remained "glued" at the bowl and would not let go until emptied 😅 With this Mayonnaise you may make a memorable Russian Salad. And the best of all: you don't even need to be a good cook. It doesn't mean, you won't get fat, but at least, you won't get sick from chemicals! Do it yourself!

The only thing I will buy at fast food joints now are burger patties if I'm out running around and get too hungry to wait until I get home. Hi from Brit! Wishing you well, however, I love McDonalds for several reasons. Number One, where else can you get a hot meal quickly on the outskirts of a city in the middle of the night? Life saver! THANK YOU MCDONALDS! For example, a few years ago I took the family from the East of England, where we live, to wonderful North Wales. It was an easy three hour drive on the way. But, on the way back I made the mistake of leaving Wales too late. We got to the Manchester ring motorway, the M60 at about 10 at night and SAT NAV was telling me to take the motorway exit to join another motorway, but it was in actual fact closed due to night time road works. I found myself in the situation where it looked like I was going to drive round and round Manchester all night with the family fast asleep after a long day hiking on Mount Snowdon. Luckily I remembered the general UK motorway map layout and headed to Sheffield in a huge detour. In fact I got the kids home at about 1:30am but I had to drive to another location for work the next day and was still driving at 3am. When the lovely warm and inviting, delightful and joy bringing lights of a ring road McDonalds brought hope and comfort. After that drive I needed hot fast protein and had three double cheese burgers with masses of wonderful McDonalds salt! Haha! A life saver! LONG LIVE McDonalds!!! Even for just that one life saving night! But, I could write a novel about the times that McDonalds has saved the day, or dawn, or middle of the night.

I came back from Thailand this past April having culture shock while eating at McDonald's. Returned home and immediately started researching it. The reason McDonald's in Thailand tasted amazing compared to ours is that the ingredients used in America are outright banned 😳 The ingredients in McDonald's here are prohibited in other countries. I never tasted a Number 1 so enjoyable and full of flavor while on holiday in Thailand. The so-called fast food here I'm convinced is designed to keep us in the ER.

I am from the States. Born in 1955 in Southern California, so I grew up eating McDonald’s. But somewhere in my 30s or 40s I stopped eating there. In 2013 I moved to Poland. There have been a few times when I had no choice but to eat at a McDonald’s here. The first time I did I was shocked at the quality of the food. It was so much better here than in the US.
@OfficiallyOrca6 ай бұрын
@SandraHof Amen to that. I was beyond perplexed. I wanted to eat McDonald's even more coming back because of the taste but once I did a Google search I fully understood America will move the goalposts in the name of profits. No thanks

Burger King is like this, too. I had Burger King during a work trip to Singapore and it tasted amazing compared to the US version. They have completely different locally sourced French Fries there. They are not even cut the same way. I don't think any fast food place anywhere in the world still uses tallow, though. I think part of the problem is that there is just not enough tallow produced for it to be at a price point where the major fast food chains could afford it and use it. Especially in the USA, the beef herds have not kept up with the population growth.

It might sound cliche but it has to be a full lifestyle change. Making extreme comparisons can help train your brain too. View eating seed oils as no different than drinking bleach. Obviously, bleach would be more immediately harmful, but with that perspective, it isn't hard to put a food down when reading the ingredients. If you picked up a microwave meal and it said "arsonic" as the first ingredient, you wouldn't even consider purchasing it. But, we have been conditioned to be willing to read horrible ingredients and then happily eat them despite the fact.

Since moving to an extremely rural area, I drink only mineral spring water from the well, use it in everything, all our food is home cooked, inflation went like crazy however we are spending less money than ever before on food. It's a lot of work to cook, wash, with a demanding job too, but really the food is great at home and peace of mind the family is not being harmed. I keep only 3 oils - Avocado oil for all cooking, Olive oil for only salads, Toasted sesame seed oil - use only a few drops to infuse the Avocado oil with oriental flavor from time to time. Freezers are full of basically bulk meats and I just buy fresh produce weekly, it's a lot of work but really tasty. I've put avocado oil into desserts before. Works fine.

The other big problem Paul, is the amount and rate of eating we are accustomed to. There's a huge psychological component to America's "cultural eating mentality" - I live in Italy and thus to find it easy to avoid all the things you mentioned, moreover I have been trying to hone in on the next level up on the category of whole foods, aiming at producing less sugar in my blood, choosing certain nuts over other ones, certain fruits over other ones, using all the indicated spices, deliberately cooking certain ways... and so forth. But what my personal problem now is solitude and boredom. Often I find myself starting off right, not eating immediately in the morning, but just having my coffee with no sugar and what have you... but by the time 6 o'clock rolls around I'm eating two or three mini dinners, in quantities that reach an amount of calories I definitely don't require. By 10 o'clock I'm struggling to give my stomach a rest, trying to go to bed with as little food as possible in it, while trying to stick to what is healthy, and so what that means is maybe plain white yogurt with stevia instead of honey, tumeric and ginger, just to render the idea. It's a hideous battle and I realize it all has to do with how I have been wired by this culture of ours, always seeking instant gratification, always looking for that anxiety based reward to attempt breaking some bored psychological routine condition. I've been learning from KZbin a great deal, and have figured out I indeed at 60 now have or am roaming around insulin resistance. Have done keto at times, and recently have lost some 30 pounds. I've eliminated breads and sugars to where it even seems I may have done a bit of healing remission. But it's still hard to not start gaining weight again. Moreover, when I lived in Hawaii I had gotten very thin because I was always on the go, and smoking pot all day relieved my boredom anxiety, so I would never take it out on food. But here in Italy pot is not an option, I live alone and specially in the winter I spend long hours at home sitting in front of my pc watching stuff. ... I'm telling you all this because, we need to understand it is a huge subject that goes far beyond ingredients, but also having to do with unchecked unscrutinized capitalism and lifestyle mentality, the undermining of community and collective activities, and how we live in general. How can one change these things! ... It's a very long conversation, but ... if we don't start talking more seriously about all of the various aspects, new education will never get a chance to change our societies.
