In a world of mass produced products and faceless manufacturers it is refreshing to see the guy who designs and builds such amazing equipment. To me, there is a value add in that alone. I spoke with both Cody and Jeff Mery ( one of his dealers ) and they spent a LOT of time without any knowledge or guarantee of a sale, infact, due to the power of what I was looking at Cody even warned me in relation to the proximity of my neighbours. In the end, I have ordered one of there infrasonic bias subs that is specifically for sub 80Hz. I was looking at an Ascendo 'The24' active, but Cody's solution just seemed like a better proposition and I feel as if I am going to get better service than from Ascendo - keep in mind, I currently have 13 Ascendo's in my system. I want optimal performance and I feel his product will give me that. I've now just got to wait.... Delayed gratification is fine by me, it will give me time to re-enforce my room and get a bit more power supply to the room.

I’ve spoken to Cody in the past. He’s a wealth of knowledge and explains very technical terms in ways a casual enthusiast can understand. I love how much passion he has for bass and subwoofers. Thank you for having him on your channel

Harbottle dropped some serious knowledge. Harbottle & Funk design powerful, nimble, good looking subwoofers that would be end game.
@harbottleaudioАй бұрын
I like that. We are serious, and subwoofers are not that complex when knowledge is open and available. So I guess that makes our engineering seriously open to anyone that wants to learn. A fair point to make is that all speakers do hit LDLC within their range of clean operation, just keep the distortion below audible and the compression below 1 dB.

I thought this was going to be the typical talk about room modes and stuff but I actually learned a lot from this video. Thanks!

My room is 14'Lx14'Wx8'H and I have both a 8" and a 12" sub. Due to whatever reason I am only using the 8" sub. I've found that the bass is more impactful and tight. I've done everything to get the two of them to work together, but the bass just gets "muddy" and bloated. Even with the several years I have moving speakers and gear around in my room there seems to be much more time needed to get all of the audio correct. So difficult, especially the bass, to get right. I'm thinking I may try a small diameter subwoofer driver array for speed and control of the drivers to eliminate "overhang".
@michaelslocumbsr.22862 ай бұрын
I was say this could be due your ceiling height! I had the same problem with using 8in Subs in 12ft ceiling room...The 8s couldn't pressurize the room...I think your 8s bring enough for 8ft ceilings that balances the sound... Now you can have bigger Subs, but you must tune them (Mini-DSP) to receive what you're looking for... They're definitely making it work in Kansas City!!! Johnathan & Sheldon with low ceilings...And don't forget about the One and Only in Chicago (Bass Brings us Together) Scott, 155db... Bottom line, keep testing and fine-tuning your system.

I would look at your impulse response. When the base impulse of two different diameters are lined up and working well in the time domain (how long it takes the driver to "impulse") the top end of the drivers will behave differently because the cone area and the motor acting on the cone is creating a different range of clean operating frequencies. So the thing to do will be: Look at the operating frequency range of the subs, and drop a high pass filter in to remove the stress of deep bass. Next; get the delay of the subs lined up in the low end so the impluse response is nice and tight and the subwoofers sum to full 4 dB over the 12 acting alone. Then use an All Pass filter to fix room resonance based dips (greater than 6 dB). You will apply the All Pass to one or both subwoofers so you would have to try it on either sub to see if the dip is room resonance related. If the dip does not go away, then you have a modal issue and you can use REW to help you with placement of your subwoofer.

@@harbottleaudio Thanks a million for your input. I will look into your suggestions as I can. Currently I am waiting for a firmware update from Emotiva on my MC-1. I've recently found that the separate sub outputs are really not very separate at the moment. I'm apparently not the only one having these issues. Once the processor issues are fixed I hope I can get the Emotiva SE-8 sub and the SVS PB1000 Pro the "Play Nice" with each other. I am considering "watching" the subs and left front speaker signals with my oscilloscope or connecting the scope to microphones to match the leading edge/or peak of the output impulse. Thanks again and wish you all the best.

Great guy, but harbottle products are too expensive. Hes gotta atleast half the price of those subs and asking price.
@harbottleaudioАй бұрын
I can appreciate your concern over pricing. However halfing the price would mean removing all of our QC measures and moving our manufacturing overseas. So LDLC would no longer be viable or achievable. I have been very open about the subwoofers that get close to LDLC and would represent what we would do if we decided to abandon our engineering model: CSS 10 inch subwoofer is good to about 50% BL and is best used with their passive radiators, I did the assesment work for CSS on that subwoofer when CSS was Canadian owned. Most Rythmic sealed models in 12, 15 and 18 inch up to 50% BL. 50% BL means 50% power applied. So if it rated at 1000 watts, expect to get about 500 watts worth of clean bass in complex program playback.
