I agree. I bank fish for smallmouth in a tidal river system. I know the tide and other factors play a part, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Best I can do is walk a mile up and down the bank throwing out a wacky rigged senko and hoping.

Thank you Randy. These topics are extremely poignant in tough situations and often your thoughts provoke wider look at the environment. I fish Mohave and Havasu, both with water clarity exceeding 30ft. Throw in wildly fluctuating water levels , the seasonal changes and forage. The Bite is often tight and very tough. So, these discussions are important as many of the other commenters have said. Stay safe !

Clarity, Temp, and Levels... it's like the true language a fish uses to speak to us. My dad would talk about it with me when fishing rivers and streams. To this day (60 years later) I still try to "read" the fish by those important factors, especially in Florida where we have the full gambit of water choices. Thanks Randy, swell information for everyone to put to use!👏.

Thank you very much Randy, for your dedication to fishing. These topics are something I have been on the look out for. Very seldom does anyone take the time and effort to explain how much the seasonal changes can and do effect fishing. You have gone deeper then I would of expected with a season by season break down of your knowledge. This is hard earned information that you are passing on to others. We do appreciate the teachings and thank you for all you are doing.

So true, I had a competition with my little brother last weekend. Fished a chained lake, one of the 3rd lakes which was dirtier. I put on a 3.8 ribbed paddletail swimbait, and he put on a slim paddletail swimbait. And I out fished him 10-0, even when he turned to his most confident baits. Anything with gold, darker in color or makes more disturbances will out fish subtle baits. Develop a game plan and mastering your core principals fishing style, what kind of lake, techniques, recent weather/water patterns, time of year can save you a lot of time by eliminating alot of dead water and putting more fish on the boat.

Hey Randy I had to figure it out for myself 20 yrs ago when they're wasn't as much info Randy I could not figure out what bait's to use in these crystal clear ponds in Massachusetts hey Randy you know what I started catching them on a finesse tube bait by lucky strike I don't think they make them anymore the tube bait was alot smaller than a regular tube and these things had some nasty strong scent in them and I think it was a combination of both the finesse size of the tube and that scent and I started smashing them and then the senko came out but I know what you mean how important water clarity, water temperature, lake level, I didn't know how important lake level is thanks for teaching us how to be a better angler god bless you and Kim and the four kids and the dog your pal fisherman Mike

Thanks for the great videos and extremely specific and helpful info. You talk about water clarity a lot. I know it might take some time and effort to put together, but I think it would be a huge help to many of us if you will put together a video showing what different water clarity looks like on actual water. If you use a polarizing filter over your camera lens it will help show the water like we see it when we are wearing polarized sunglasses also. I think we all get very dirty water and gin clear water, but when you start talking about 2’ visibility, 4-5’, etc. I know I personally don’t know how to judge that when looking at the water. If you will do this I believe it will help many of us understand a lot more about what you are saying when you mention water clarity as it relates to different techniques, colors selection, etc. Thanks again for sharing all this great info with us!

Algae blooms are the worst. When I was driving I learned a few things. Algae is a layer,maybe inches or up to 2ft deep. Under it the water can be gin clear or muddy. I try to find something that will run from 3ft to the bottom.I try the high side first & work deeper. The bites off but they can be caught.

Let’s talk about moon phases.. because water clarity temp and moon phase plays a big role for me fishing. For example when the water was 63 degrees and winds from the northwest and a waxing crescent moon and 5 foot of water clarity I was catching small mouth bass from 3 to 8 foot of water at the mouth of the creek where it meets Lake Ontario. On a powder whopper plopper, and Kietch swimbait as well as a white jerk bait. Color as well plays a big roles.

One of my favorite local lakes is absolutely crystal clear. Its difficult at times and it limits lure a presentation selection greatly. What I have found is a weightless of Neko rigged senko works best almost always. And be ultra quiet and cast at them from far away. Less windy and shallow? The smaller and less weight you use.
@jdcskillet
@jdcskillet 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was completely wrong with what I was throwing! In the morning I threw topwater, chatterbait and spinnerbaits. I mostly just spooked the bass. I went with a finesse jig after I realized I was being too aggressive as well as a drop shot. Those were incorrect because the drop shot was too big (a 3.8 swim bait) and the line too heavy 10lb). I think. I should have as you suggested went very finesse with a weightless senko, a shakey head, a wacky rig or a neko rig.

I cast to around 8ft and retrieve back to me standing at about 3 feet , dirty dirty dirty water. I have used crankbaits spinnerbaits, finspin Question: I don’t often get hit on vibration lures; but on I go to a drop shot on a plastic boom I get hits and catches. Why is this? Could it be water temperature? I live south texas and it’s get crazy hot; could this be a reason vibration doesn’t work? Thank u

Anybody wanting a good lesson on water clarity watch BPT's recent tournament on lake Travis. There were a ton of fish on the lower end of the lake with super clear water, visibility greater than 6 feet. Most of the anglers were finesse fishing marinas in the clear water with small swim baits and wacky rigs. As the tournament progresses, Jacob Wheeler found some slightly stained water where he could catch some big ones on a chatterbait under docks, and he won the tournament.
