Your right hand should always be doing the same thing regardless of what you’re playing. If you have any questions about what you should be doing with your right hand practicing this, you might be trying to move to fast. Right hand technique is so important and should really be locked down before moving onto more advanced concepts like arpeggios and chord tones. Bass is so much fun to play once you are learning more advanced things but can be pretty boring when just starting out. The problem is that learning more advanced things before the basics are locked down can ultimately impede your progress. Hopefully I don’t sound like a dock. I only say this because I am speaking from experience.

Great lesson. I teach bass as well. Though the hammer on is advantageous it's important that the note be played distinctly so that it's impact is not diminished.

@@PosidoVega ..Hey just got a few of your beginner content off your website......I really taught the arpeggios would have fret diagram also....but it is what it is...Time to practice.
@PosidoVega2 жыл бұрын
@@jason3000tt thanks so much for picking up some of my content from my website. The arpeggios printable doesn't have fretboard diagrams for a couple reasons. There's so many ways to voice an arpeggio. Having a fretboard diagram would limit you. Instead, by learning where all of your options are for 1, 3, and 5 (for example) you'll really learn your fretboard, and you're also forced to learn different ways to play that arpeggio (you won't be stuck on certain fingerings). The other reason is that it would be tough to fit all combinations on a single sheet. my intent was that the sheet could be posted up on a wall, used as an easy reference without having to thumb through pages of material. Take your time with the material and feel free to ask me any questions!

This is good info! I used to practice arpeggios on the piano this way but for some reason I haven't on the bass. One thing I debate with myself though is whether doing hammer-ons makes me lazy in terms of the plucking hands and that it might be better for me to practice plucking for shoring up my speed
@PosidoVega2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexi Karuna! Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you liked the info! You bring up a good point. I used to think hammer-ons would make me lazy. But, whenever I observe many of my favorite bass players that can play very fluidly on the bass, like Victor Wooten or Oteil Burbridge, they use hammer-ons a lot. I think at the end of the day, it all depends on how you want to articulate the arpeggio. when you use hammer-ons, you will lose the ability for each note to be staccato, but you will gain a very fluid sound. when you pluck each note you will have a great deal of control over how each note is articulated. i think if it sounds good to your ears, that's the most important
@AlexiKaruna2 жыл бұрын
@@PosidoVega that is a good point... and I agree, smooth playing to me sounds better and also solves many timing problems, so maybe 'lazy' is actually the right way :)

Love the video, and the tone of the bass. What kind of strings are you using (brand, etc.). Thank you.
@PosidoVega3 ай бұрын
Hi Laszlo! Thanks so much for watching and I'm so glad you love my video and my tone. The specific strings I use are: Fodera 40100 Stainless Steel Roundwound Bass Guitar Strings - .040-.100 Light. I have tendonitis in my forearms, which is why i use such light strings. there' not as beefy a 0.45-.105 gauge, but the lighter strings allow me to play longer with more finesse. I used to use DR's for a long time, but then I tried Fodera strings and really liked how balanced they felt with my fingers from string to string and haven't gone back since! The only time I'll buy a different set of strings if I'm in a bind and they're not available. The Fodera strings are pricer, but I also rarely change my strings, so it all balances out in the end. Hope this helps :)

Hi Matt! I use this one: amzn.to/4cHaMVA it's a K&M Konig & Meyer stand. It's super stable and can even fold down, which I really like. They have a lot of different configurations. But the one I specifically have is for 3 guitars

Next time, you may want to show in addition to your left hand your plucking hand as you demonstrated various points using the right hand the camera failed to show the motion of your plucking hand.
