You know, I've always tried to play that intro riff using my pinky to hammer on like Ellefson does, and it always sounded thin and weak. Never considered shifting my whole hand like that to give it more beef!

@@nickflatgard2779 If you practice very meticulously your left hand technique, you can get as much beef doing the shift as using your pinky. It is hard to nail the appropiate balance of force and power to do the hammer on with the pinky at playing speed.

I'm constantly amazed by the amount of attack Josh has when playing with fingers! Like each of his fingers are picks. Insane. In this video tho, when playing with HB, I definitely hear the "plasticness" of Harley Benton especially when Josh plays higher notes. But regardless, Josh makes even HB sing, that's for sure. Love his playing!

Love Josh, he's a BEAST, but this line really needs a pick - especially for the verse, the dynamics with the palm muting is what makes the line so special. As always, superbly played by Josh, but in my opinion he should use a pick in songs that really require one. Awesome cover anyway :D

People that criticize bass players for using picks are folks that can’t play bass with a pick. It gives you a certain tone. Do you say slap, distortion, modulation, etc should be ‘illegal’ for bass players? How about the electric bass in general...is that ‘illegal’?

Kind of disappointed to learn Ellefson invented djent on this song. Not sure I've ever seen a fret board get less action before. I guess Dave and Marty used all the notes, there weren't any left for the bass line.
@SpectorEuro42 жыл бұрын
Does every song need the same boring slap, octaves, tap and shitty video editing to be a good baseline? Check the most famous bass lines of all time and tell me how much fret action they get. Oh this song is one of them! Ellefson plays for the song, the music. Not to get recognition or use overrated, overused techniques just to attract the eye. You have shitty meme KZbinrs already doing that. Professional musicians play real music.
