Good video as always, you forgot to mention braid's ability not to have line memory. I put most of braid on a scale and have found break strength at 175% of stated strength (i.E. 10lb = 17lb). I have braid that is still good after 5 years. I do always run floro leader with the braid

Nice video, big fan I all have used braid 60 to 80 lbs for all of my fishing, got my PB with a good friend couple years ago fishing with him, he was always a mono man tell we watched me drag a 6lbs 3 oz. Large mouth out of a little hole in lily pads, yes if I'm fishing for gills and specks I still use 20 lbs braid

I know this video is a bit old. Started seriously fishing every day 2 months ago. I live on Lewisville Lake in North Texas, so, it was an easy hobby to pickup. Snatched up a good 7ft medium-heavy rod and a Daiwa Fuego 3000 LT. Your videos have helped me out a lot. But I have a question here. I've been running 16Lbs braid to 14Lbs mono. It was just what the guy at the store recommended and I just didn't know enough about line to make a choice on my own. So, sounds like I'm swapping to 20Lbs braid after seeing this, and switching my leaders to Flouro. My question is, what weight (or range of weight) Flouro do you typically run for leaders? I'm fishing mostly soft plastics with 3/16th OZ. weights on a simple Texas rig.

Probably good but as he said hard to break it when you get hung up from the bank and cannot get near it. Expensive when you learn to throw a bait caster and backlash all over the place. I bank fish a lot and Mono works great for me.

Hello Flukemaster and fellow anglers, I just switched over to using pline fluoro from mono. I don't fish too often and usually keep my line tied up to a hook and keep it in the hook keeper by the reel, but it had me thinking.. Since fluoro cuts into its self when tying knots i was wondering if instead of leaving my line hooked up, if i should take the hook off and store my reel with the line in the line tie or if i am fine to leave it hooked up. Any Advice would be great.

Great tips! What is your preferred line setup for carolina rig? Won’t braid get damaged by the moving weight? Is braid to fluorocarbon a good option? Not a fan of many knots and connections, but wouldn’t it be better to hang the weight and the marble on fluoro? Thanks!

Good line. Caught a bunch of fish on this brand. Usually 10, 12 or 14 lb. Can't beat 700 yards for $2 to $3. Only time I ever noticed was trying to set the hook on a Texas rig bait from about 30 yards away. I could feel the stretch then.
@claxisback23154 жыл бұрын
I know this is an older video but the question relates to this topic. I have two rods that I need to get restrung. One bait caster and one spinning, both with old warn out mono on them right now. I've narrowed down that I would like to put mono on one and braid on the other but aren't sure which should go on which rod. Currently I'm getting a lot of backlash on the bait caster so I'm leaning towards braid on that one. Do you have any advice for me?
@Flukemaster4 жыл бұрын
Braid on spinning and learn how to tie a leader of fluoro or mono on it when you need to. Mono on the baitcaster and practice with it so you don't get backlash very often

40 lb test works well, I've been fishing heavy cover for top water, and i use also 50 or 65 lb as well, however for me I've found 40 lb has a bit more casting distance. And to my surprise never yet had any break offs. Tight lines!
@kierantamondong83044 жыл бұрын
Hey man great video, really cleared up a lot of questions for me. I was wondering why you would use a 20 pound test on a spinning reel. From as far as I know (which isn't a lot) I was told spinning reels should only hold up to 12 pounds max. Is this false? I'd love to get a reaction. :))
@myungkim8614 жыл бұрын
thats 12 pound diameter of the mono line that reels can handle. Braid is really thin so 20 pound braid is around the same thickness as like 10 - 12 pound mono.
@carneythegamer Жыл бұрын
it depends on the size of your spinning reel. there is size 2000, 3000, 4000. etc... u can use 20 pound on size 3000+

Will someone please explain to me the difference in depths and size of line. Higher pound test goes deeper or not? I’ve heard different things from different people. And why? Is it because of water pressure? I’ve heard stronger line is bigger and doesn’t go as deep because of pressure I guess pushing It up. I’ve also had people tell me bigger stronger line is heavier and goes deeper due to weight. Can someone please set me the heck straight? Thanks in advance.
@Flukemaster4 жыл бұрын
Due to the increase in diameter you get an increase in water resistance. This prevents the crankbait from going a little deeper than it would with thinner line. Another factor is type of line. Braid and mono float so they will also prevent the crankbait from going a little deeper. Fluoro sinks allowing it to go a little deeper.

As a kayak fisherman, for me it really depends on how im fishing and what im fishing for. I like braid for my heavy cover fishing, and mono for everything else. I use 50# braid mainly because it doesnt bury like thinner braid will. My mono is anywhere from 6#-12#. 6# for my VERY finesse fishing with light light baits. My 10#-12# is for everything else. Remember that just because a fish weighs 10lbs, that doesnt mean it requires 10lbs+ force to bring it in.
