Күн бұрын

This was a long awaited series of trips to the spillway after the gates finally opened. Florida has been in a severe drought until recently. I've been fishing this spillway for about 6 months, dreaming of what it would be like when the gates opened up. The rains came, and the spillway did not disappoint.

something happened to me similar in Palm Coast, Florida. a week of flooding rain causes the big bass to hit the spillways. I caught 50 12 inch in one spot and 6 5+ pounders in various fast moving water spillways there. what a blast for a week!!! good video!!!

When I first visited the USA nearly 50 years ago people thought we Brits were crazy to catch and release, in those days anything caught (above the size limit) was taken and eaten, its good to see from many videos I have seen that C+R is widely exercised, this will help preserve the fish population from the massive pressure it is under not only from fishing but invasive species and other forms of predation. I wish we had Bass here, we have tried to introduce in years past but it didn't work.

Where I live there is a lake called Spring Lake. Santa Rosa, Ca. If Spring Lake sounds familiar to you, it is because of this. Back in 97 Paul Duclos caught a possible work record Largemouth Bass out of Spring Lake. Duclos weighed his fish on bathroom scales and then released it, forever leaving in doubt whether it actually did weigh 24 pounds, as he stated. (Here is an article on it. www.bassmaster.com/potential-world-record-bass-california I grew up fishing that small lake and there has always been Hogs, I mean Hogs, in the lake. When I was a kid in the early 80's my friends and I would fish there every day in the summer. In the winter time the lake would flood. About 100 yards from the lake was a swimming pond. When the water would go back down, we would sneak out in the middle of the night and ride our bikes to the lake. We would fish that swimming hole almost nightly. Catching the biggest bass I have ever seen or caught to this day. Ever since then I have kept an eye on any lakes that are near smaller lakes or ponds that can be flooded into from the lake. These flooding situations can make some of the best fishing of your life! Great video please keep it up. Thanks!

@prevost8686
@prevost8686 6 жыл бұрын
tonyc018 Nothing wrong with the water. Healthy bass populations won’t thrive in poor quality water. It had been raining and the water is being churned up and oxygenated. The condition of the bass are a clear indicator that the water quality is good. Catfish and carp will tolerate poor water quality but not bass.

king persia bass are not good eating fish especially when large, even fish we eat here in the U.S. (Walleye, Crappie, Catfish, Pan Fish) we only keep certain sized fish because they taste better but more importantly to preserve our fisheries. Personally I catch and release all fish unless I have a fish fry planned and am fishing an over populated, stunted fish population.
