Thanks for your leadership in this unique hobby. What is the actual line capacity of this reel? I will likely use this in lakes, ponds, and rivers rather than smaller streams and creeks. So, I'm wondering in meters how much would be reasonable for longer casts with 4, 5, and 6 lb test. Thoughts?
@rawrfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. so their website says 8# Mono holds 50 yards and 15# PowerPro holds 45 yards. Now most BFS anglers use thinner line can put more on, but most don't even fill to the max to keep the spool light to cast light lures. Sounds like you are in the stage of exploring BFS for finesse fishing. I have spooled 4lbs mono on this reel before, approximately 125 ft and casted about 90 ft for a 3.5 gram spoon on a 7 ft Light tackle rod with a moderate fast tip aciton. I think it could go further if i used thin braid with leader materials. So i guess 100 ft is about 30 meters? should be plenty when throwing finesse size lures :) I often carry a L and ML rod for my BFS fishing throwing lures between 3 to 8 grams. I don't often try to push past the 100 ft mark since i kayak fish. but i know bank fishermen want distance over accuracy, so if you are planning to throw light lures far, BFS might not be the solution, but if you are into efficiency, accuracy and also a lighter setup (Bait Casting Reels are lighter than spinning), BFS is the way to go!

My inspiration for using a jika is from jimbo that’s all I throw year round weather it’s on a regular medium heavy setup or bfs it’s effective on every water body but my goal this year is to try it on the bay in salt water so thank you for that my friend

Hi great video. How long FC leader do you use in BFS fishing?
@rawrfishing Жыл бұрын
Thx. I fish up to a rod length for my fishery.. Ususally less. But could possibly be more for clearer waters.

Why the step up rather than step down in weight for the braid to FC leader? Are you matching diameters or is that based on another consideration?
@rawrfishing3 жыл бұрын
The rod got micro guides. So u would need to use thin lines and thin knots to ensure proper casting.

@@rawrfishing Meaning that by having it taper in the direction of the reel, it reduces the interference as the line goes out?
@rawrfishing3 жыл бұрын
@@neverfox don't think it matters much, my leader doesn't go all the way way the spool. Just up a few guides... in this case... a thousand micro guides lol

Hey do you plan on upgrading bearings in the curado BFS ?

Probably not needed. Already micro bearings. But if I ever wanna run dry, I guess I could!

@@trickytrav88 I will keep using stock until a new spool comes out, but since no bearings on the spool, at least I won't be forced to buy anything. But we shall see. If I can turn this into UL BFS. I may! I am in a limbo... might just buy a next size up bc reel like a tatula sv and just use that for my ML bass fishing. I prefer bfs for my smaller species and open water fishing.
@trickytrav883 жыл бұрын
@@rawrfishing i didnt think about that there's no bearings to really change on it your rite..lol. Im using it on a medium light lews mach inshore rod and catching. 3lbers on it is so much fun, i love the clicking from the drag its music to my ears
@rawrfishing3 жыл бұрын
@@trickytrav88 I think u would enjoy the next level up reel like the MGL for a ML. It makes it more versatile on a ML rod if u like thicker line. I got a lot of bass techniques that forcing me to move up next. I guess it's a perfect time to show case other finesse reels other than at the bfs level!
@neverfox3 жыл бұрын
Since the Dobyns 7' is unobtanium, but you can still find the 7'4", would you recommend the longer rod or waiting? I'm planning to kayak fish small waters for the usual (bluegill, crappie, small bass). I do have a Shimano Sensilite 7' fwiw.
@rawrfishing3 жыл бұрын
So far, the only time I have issues is going under trees and tunnels. Can't fish bridges either. But if you don't have any of that.... extra length does have its benefits. Especially hooksets or even jigging. I feel that shorter got way more control. So if you like a lot of flip and pitching... wait for the shorter! But I see u got a 7 foot already...

about the gear ratio - I was catching bass with the megabass grand siglet last nite on that reel and i have to say the gear ratio is perfect my dad had the same lure on and he had to reel extra fast to get the same action i was getting on an easy retrieve with his 6.1:1 reel ;)
