Nice, these are the ones I use too - i bought them for when I fished the skerries, just coz of the name ; ) Berkley Ripple Shads are my other go-to... they're pretty fat lures, but they look incredibly when they're moving through the water. I just cut the heads off with a pair of scissors and replace it with a savage gear 22g jig head. Had loads of luck with it.

Great fun fishing John, there's a few Mark's I visit near the IoW that sometimes produce like that when you see a few birds. I usually use a FBM but you are spot on they get trashed real fast ( I have sessions just repairing them, especially with wrasse around...) so I've been on the lookout for something tougher that works well. I will give those side winders a try. I've picked up some great tips from your vids so many thanks, I wish you every success. Stirling effort to reply to people's comments. Tightlines

Another awesome video!! I’d love to tune in one day and hear the intro words “welcome back to the fish locker.. out on shallow rough ground” or “out in the surf” fishing for bass. Your videos tick all the boxes but I’d love to see one covering the fishing I mainly do myself. That is on foot from shore marks utilising hard and soft plastics. If you want lure recommendations for that type of fishing I’d have a few to pass on!
@TheFishLocker5 жыл бұрын
//Linear Tapes// - Thankyou very much. The only real reason I haven’t done a video doing that is it pays to be very mobile when fishing lures from the shore like that and it’s hard to get good footage. I don’t like head or chest mounted footage. Also, the local bass guys get very emotional about anyone fishing “their marks” so showing it on video for the whole world to see just gets their knickers in a bunch and turns into dislikes on the videos. 🤷🏻♂️🎣🐟
@lineartapes96645 жыл бұрын
The Fish Locker I take your point concerning bass anglers and the state of their underwear.. though some marks, especially beaches and surf fishing, I feel are totally fair game to put out to the world.. a good bass angler will have enough of their own spots not to worry about obvious marks shows up on KZbin. If you ever did find a suitable place which could work for a video like that I’m sure Mrs fishlocker would be more than happy to work the camera/tripod ;) I’ll keep my fingers crossed and look forward to the next video 🤙🏻

Cracking video again John and what a great session . . . this is probably my favorite style of fishing and my preferred catch! We've found the pearl Sidewinders outfish the naturals at least (and probably more actually) 2 to 1. Anecdotal admittedly, but interesting to see you experienced similar.

try giving twitches with the rod tip. I've fished plastic tails on the East and West Coasts of North America and the fish respond well to a twitchy retrieve. I believe the fish think the prey is getting away and they will reflexively strike. I like white and yellow, for contrast, but natural colors work when white and yellow do not. In Florida, we call sprats pichards. In San Diego, sardines.
@TheFishLocker5 жыл бұрын
Rembrandt Shadows - We have pilchards and sardines here also. Sprats to us is just a collective name for small bait fish. Usually young herring. Yes I like mixing it up a bit sometimes a twitchy retrieve can entice a shy fish can’t it. 😉🎣👍🏻🐟

Hi John, I have been watching your channel for a couple of months now and I have to say , you are so very inspiring. I only started lure fishing this spring as a part of my recovery from heart surgery. I have been struggling a bit with finding accessible marks but have had a few small bass . When the going gets hard and the blanks come thick and fast I come home and watch some of your footage and all is good with the fishing gods and I can’t wait to get back out again. Thanks for all the great content and keep up the good work 👍 Ps I live in the st Austell Bay Area and any advice would be greatly appreciated,thank again !!

Those pesky bass will give you an itchy cartoon hand that looks like an anvil has landed on it. Take my advice and buy an Egyptian cotton hand towel, dip it in the water and handle them with that. Trust me, it stops getting spiked and also seems to stop them thrashing about. In case your wondering why Egyptian? It’s because the weave is tight and spikes are less likely to make it through, quality!

When spinning for sea trout and salmon or when retrieving a fly if a fish is following you actually speed up the retrieve. Having said that our natural reaction is to slow down or stop and in doing so the lure loses its attraction and mostly the fish just disappear. Great video and really envy you hooking into so many bass.
@TheFishLocker5 жыл бұрын
Ken Maylor - I did read a few years ago to give the lure a quick spurt that imitates a fleeing fish so triggers a strike. But have tried it several times and had no results? 🤷🏻♂️👍🏻🎣🐟

Hi mate, just got back from camping the weekend with family and friends. before I got a cast, I hooked my finger lol. Needless to say, family and friends laughed their socks off. Did not catch a fish, but two young blokes caught a flounder. They were just new to fishing. A travesty I say haha. But at least I got to teach them how to clean a fish ! I've been home only a few hours and relaxed at watching your video. Finger still sore (right between fingernail ) but had a great weekend watching England beat my second fav. team. I will be trying out a squidgy (it's what they call them over here.). I've not had much luck with them, but like you say, If you're not in the right spot...........The best bass I caught was when on a river in Kangaroo valley with a hard lure with a propeller on it's tail with 2 single hooks which I attached with same line as I used on my main line. Nothing fancy (,lure is about 70mm long.) The bass came out of the cover of a dead tree and took the lure about 2 metres from where I stood. You never fail to entertain and encourage me to keep on keeping on. Thanks for that John. Have a great day.

Nomad - You don’t need to catch a fish to enjoy fishing mate. And I bet you had a great time camping. I’ve had a couple of nasty hooks injuries over the years. Best was in my calf with a big treble that was attached to a 1lb perk. Rolled off the side and snagged me on the way down. Had to be pulled through and snipped off. 😫🎣🐟

@TheFishLocker5 жыл бұрын
Ivon Coles - When you say 15ft of leader you mean mono rubbing leader on the end of your braid right? Surely not 15ft hooklength?
@bassandcodfishing15 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishLocker Haha, Yes hook length. I tried it once fishing wrecks in Brighton with Sidewinders and red gills lures, had a cracking day. I must add, we were with a good skipper and we were drifting down the side of a big wreck, still lost some gear though. 15 ft my be slightly stretching it however I used 10 ft regular with 12oz to 1lb lead depending on drift speed, I do get my gear up really quick of the bottom and retrieve at pace. Some of the best Pollock I’ve seen caught were caught on home made Chrome jigs. These were good for a fast drift as you get a positive contact with the bottom due to their weight without paying out too much line and get it off the bottom asap. Please note all you sea dogs, I’m no pro, Good rookie though haha Keep your great videos coming, love them.

I had this the other day on a bog shoal under the birds, switch lures if they are following but not taking. You should hook up every cast. In bright sunlight I like the candy cottons, in overcast clear water always a natural colour in slightly murky white.
