So if I'm following correctly, a lot of the percussive beats we hear in fast slap/pop lines are actually muted strings and not sounded notes. This is probably the single most helpful video on slapping I've seen in my life. Much thanks.

This is cool. This is what I needed. Been playing bass for years but always wanted to get into slap and pop and funk. Lessons need to be done like this so the students can keep up. Great work.

We both slap but I’m my own man. If we sound alike it is pure coincidence.
@dylantaylor39986 жыл бұрын
What are you playing through? Very nice tone.
@shagthe6 жыл бұрын
Ironically, gear is not my strong point. It's a Warmoth bass, I THINK emg pickups, I THINK an Aguilar pre-amp inside, and as I recall a mix of a direct line into protools, and a room mic. I believe I'm playing through a Hartke kickback 112. It's an old video, and I have a guy who takes my bass away to Santy Claus' workshop and brings it back periodically tricked out.

I'm getting so frustrated and ready to quit.. I try to slap open E, but it sounds as if I'm playing it mute. It's way worse for the rest of the strings :( My hand motion is supposedly right, what could i be doing wrong?? 😢

Strike it like you’re trying to smack a fly that’s on a fragile glass. Stun the fly but don’t break the glass. Bounce off it. I’ll try n post a vid about it tomorrow.

Can you only do this on the E and G string
@shagthe5 жыл бұрын
Well, unless it’s a five string. The E string is just convenient and low. Try it in other keys and make small adjustments to accommodate. I’ll try n post a vid about it this weekend.
