Did you change the settings of your crossover to match the proper frequency response of these subwoofers? Idk but they sound like they are punching high frequencies a lot more than lower frequencies because the way you might have your crossover is for professional PA woofers and not these.

Hey man so I'm ordering my first PA amp. It only has 1/4 " inputs. I could use a 1/4" to aux adapter and run a regular aux right?

Probably but it might not be strong enough signal to get the most out of the amp. You might need a mixer.

Because the 18s in the box would be bottoming out/distorting however the Treos subs were doing it perfectly fine in free air with no mechanical noise at all!

so they have mor xdamage? if the small parameters tell you that, i believe you. but the ones in the flour have much cheaper driver design. what i think is that they have loose suspension and move more freely. Or the coil on the speaker in the box are deformed, so it touches the magnet much earlier than they should.

The PA boxes for the 18s are tuned in the hight 30s and aren't by any means designed to play super low frequencies, the Treo subs although they don't look it are really good subwoofers, there built in the early 2000s and are rated at 350w RMS yet have taken 1200w RMS daily for a year straight. They are very good subwoofers.
