Voice Play has a Viking shanty called My Mother Told Me; and Tim also does Misty Mountain, with Peter Hollins. I much prefer Tim's Misty mountains to Geoff's. Geoff, in his version, seems to be singing solely to look for reasons to show off how deep he can go - when he's so much more than that.

The fashion accessory called a " beanie" today has been called a "watch cap" by the US Navy for over two centuries. It came from British usage a couple of centuries before even that. In the days of sail ship's crew stood four-hour "watches" at the ships wheel, on deck for maintenance, available to make or shorten sail and all other tasks. A small knit cap would keep a head warm in cold weather and was easily replaced if carried away by wind or wave.

Mette, I think it's cool that they do, it's just natural for us lowly humans not to compare their sounds. I love that they all bring something unique to the table. Adam Chance, the first singer, was the bass in his original acappella quartet Street Corner Symphony (edited). He holds down the bass in Home Free when Tim takes the lead parts. Their cover of Folsom Prison Blues really shows off both of these guys. As to Tim and his full Jack Sparrow, he's also standing in a boat (it's hard to see but I think that's why he's standing so still). Tim got the Sparrow costume but Austin took on the psycho-Sparrow mannerisms. And can we just have a moment of appreciation for Adam Rupp's ability to mimic castinets without spit flying everywhere?

I know its been a while since you recorded this, you probably know the guy in the middle is Austin Brown.... and he's pretty funny in this one. Maybe its the quarantine making him a bit nuts? Technically, you have hawlyard shanties (pronounced and often spelled halyard) which are fast, a small team is bringing a slack line in freed by a change of tack, and capstan shanties, which are slow and powerful and determined - forty men on bars lifting an anchor and cable heavy enough to hold a 100-ton ship fast. The shantyman was actually a fiddler-conductor, keeping them coordinated, as that much weight could be trouble.

Tim has a very clear bottom end. One of my favorite things about him. He enunciates very clearly. I have noticed that many basses do not enunciate clearly with certain sounds disappearing in the work at dropping down. Hope you get what I am saying. Yes, fantastic music from these men.

Tim Foust, bass (best country harmony bass since Richard Sturbin from the Oak Ridge Boys), Jack Sparrow Costume. Adam Rupp, beatboxer extraordinare, white shirt. While I agree that sometimes the arrangements can be a little static especially in their earlier stuff, they are so well sung and performed that they are always worth listening to and watching. The newer stuff, like Timeless and Dive Bar Saints albums with more original music show their improvement and they did some really neat stuff on Land of the Free, which is mostly covers.

I think these songs are beautiful. As a fan of folk music, there is such a wealth of beautiful songs in the genre that is ignored for the most part. Sad that they are hardly heard now.

The guys are Adam Chance (beanie), Tim Foust (you know him obviously), Austin Brown (the turban-like head cover), Rob Lundquist (the blue bandana with full beard and mustache), and Adam Rupp (Beat boxer in the white pirate shirt). Singing parts respectfully are: Tim- bass, Chance- Baritone, Austin-lead tenor, Rob- high tenor, Adam Rupp- beat boxer/ low tenor. Hope this helps!!!

The center man in red is Austin Brown, high tenor. Love Home Free. They have never sung anything I do not like. They are the best.

You're one of the few reactors that has commented on how they speed up as they go. I noticed it right off. Did you hear Adam Rupp's castenets in that last tune? (White shirt is Adam Rupp the beatboxer.)

Misty Mountains with Peter Hollens and Tim Foust is what you want for that note. The Ring of Fire from the Sing Off is another.

The tenor is Rob Lundquist, the high tenor is Austin Brown, the baritone is Adam Chance, the percussionist is Adam Rupp, and of course, Tim Foust is the bass.
