I have been watching scotts videos for a few weeks now, learning something new everyday, I have been playing bass for 10 years and watching these just makes me feel like I'm re learning the whole instrument. Watching these has re kindled my passion for bass and is driving me to become the bass player I could never be going down the road I am, thank scott for sharing your knowledge and making me fall in love with playing bass again

Possibly the most important single bass lesson on KZbin. Cheers Scott!!

Its just as important what you dont play as what you do. you have to feel the music. I've never lost this and felt it straight away. Great lesson Scott.

This is the best lesson on positions for playing scales I've seen yet! Knowing the patterns for when the root note is under your first, second and fourth fingers is gives you only three easily distinguishable patterns you can with use all over the fretboard. Over time, once you have them memorized well you can expand them to get all the "missing" positions.

I have now watched a number of your lessons and I am deeply impressed!! Six weeks ago I had my first contact with a bass guitar and I can already feel where this is leading. Bits and pieces every day. :) Thank you Scott and the internet.

Scott, you sir are the man! I've been watching your videos for the past few days now and I cannot tell you how much better I've gotten at the bass just by watching your videos! This video alone has allowed me to easily grasp the different scales on the fretboard. I have abit of a learning disability and for me, this was very easy to grasp. Thanks man for all that you do. I'm getting better because of you!

Mr. Devine, you are an inspiration to watch. After several years of not playing and trying to pick it up again, I've been in a musical plateau so to speak. I've been watching your lessons and have learned so much through them. Thank-you and keep up the great work!
@m.edwardburton624711 жыл бұрын
The last two minutes are, I think, the most important part of the entire video. His mentioning that one will remember patterns i.e. scales i.e. intervals and positions MUCH better if they're turned into "music" is simply brilliant! He's absolutely right. And it makes practicing a whole lot more fun and interesting as well. You're doing great Scott. Thanks a million! M

I'm quite impressed with your teaching approach! Feels like a fast-track to understanding, not just playing the notes, but understanding how they feel within the key! This will lead to "writing" bass lines with real meaning to you and your ear and heart. I love it!

Lotta hack bassists and bass instructors out there. Scott, by contrast, is the real deal man. He's like my older brother. Like a mentor. Always having my back. I appreciate what you do Scott and I tell every musician I know about you. Peace.

I am pro drummer for like 20+ years and teacher. I play bass only for fun as a hobby. The lesson is amazingly pleasant, extremely simple and few orders of magnitude move valuable than those you get for bucks on Amazon. Scott not just shows how to play it best, not just explains it simply, but also inspires you to the level you just drop everything, grab your bass and start experimenting.

I've been playing bass & lead guitar professionally for years by ear. I know music theory from playing trumpet all through school, but never applied it to guitar. I've watched so many of Scott's videos while playing the bass AND was inspired enough to keep practicing. No other teacher explained theory on the fretboard to me as well as Scott has! This lesson especially was very insightful. I feel like I've finally reached that "next level"! I've been stuck so many years. Thank you Scott!

I've been playing over 20 years and have studied at Berklee so this stuff isn't really new to me, but I gotta say you have a great teaching style. Young guys and gals these days don't know how good they have it to have stuff like this so readily available to them. At the same time it can often stop them from learning how to read and transcribe. When I started learning reading and transcribing was the only way you had to learn new stuff. Great work my man.

At the risk of sounding like an old guy (I am) this type of knowledge is so valuable. I've been playing 6 string for some time and am now working on bass to round out my knowledge of rhythm and wished I would have put a lot more focus on learning the fret board early on. It makes learning the guitar (any type) so much easier. More instructors should emphasize these types of lessons early on - great job, any others like this in the library. I'm new so am just sorting through your collection.

The following is no cheat it is my desire to articulate my respect for what Scott is doing or trying to do: I am a studied bass player, who took a pretty long break due to work. I recently joined SBL and I have to say that it is superb - go for scott, he really knows what (!) and how (!!) to teach - and I can guarantee you this: This is a rare combo!! If you take his advices seriously, you will become a bass player! I am really thankful for what he does.

Well ... I'm playing bass for 20 years and I was searching for some "hints" and lessons for "the next level". I found it in your video - thanks a lot! There are so much vids of guys showing their abilities ... but you hit me! I think in patterns ... but didn't recognise the "value" of the 1st+4th pattern. I was searching for other scales - didn't realise it's just in the "normal" major scale? How dumb ... thanks for opening my eyes. I'll come back after practicing! UR a great teacher! Stefan

It depends whether you're soloing over that progression or not. It's all in the key of G major - so essentially you could use a G major scale over the entire thing and it would sound correct. But, it's nice to target certain chord tones etc to give a bit of variety too. As far as just playing a bass line... It depends... you don't have to start on the roots all the time, you can really mix things up which is why being a bass player is AWESOME lol! Thanks for watching man! Scott
@devinebass12 жыл бұрын
They're individual single saddle units - so each string has its own separate bridge almost - does that make sense lol?! I have had strings rotate before - I get around it by kind of swizzling them around when I'm fitting them. Great to hear you're enjoying the lessons! Scott

great instruction. teaching students to not concentrate on more notes, but rather relax and hear a melody and play the right notes. I like that you keep the backing track very simple. That allows plenty of time to develop ideas for a young player. Your series is great. I'm going to recommend my sax playing son have a go at the backing track. He's great off the page, but needs help developing an ear for creating melody of his own making.

Scott! Thank you so much for your lesson! I have had such a hard time with remembering the notes on the fret-board! It has been driving me NUTS. Now I see what your talking about! listen to the note, watch your hand, sing the note, and move through the first scale then the third then the second and mix it up! The backing track is the way to learn it! Just go slow and sing along and look at the fret board where the note's are coming from, then you can remember it! And it doesn't matter when you change keys the pattern will show where to go! Thank so much Clifford Campbell. of Helio Raie.
